The Putnam County Founding Flyers are excited to schedule our Spring Doubles Series: This 10-week series will begin March 14th and end May 16th. These Thursday evening meetups will encourage camaraderie and competition while promoting a fun and friendly atmosphere for all ability levels. All throwers are welcome from touring professionals to first-time players.
This doubles series is FREE to anyone that wants to play. We want to encourage newcomers to join our league and challenge all of our regulars to bring in fresh players to share our love for the game so we may grow our local disc golf family. Absolutely FREE to all that participate will be a points series that will be based on how teams perform on a weekly basis. Players get one point for attending and one point for each team they beat every week. The top three individuals on the leader-board at the end of the series will be awarded with prizes to be supplied by the Founding Flyers.
Doubles teams will be drawn using two pools so that advanced players are paired with newer players. In this format teams are evenly matched and our advanced players can help guide newer players with form, shot selection, and strategy during club rounds. Again, this points series is FREE to all those that participate. For those that want a little more out of the weekly doubles experience, we have several options that will make our league even more fun and interesting. Players may opt to play for free, put in for any of the extras described below, or get in on all the action for $5 a session.
ACE FUND: For $2 per week, players may opt to contribute to the ace fund pay out. Hitting an elusive ace will get the thrower some fresh cash and plenty of bragging rights. Players must have submitted their money to the ace fund prior to teeing off to be eligible for the cash prize. Should our ace fund reach $100 it will be capped and a secondary fund will be started so that we will have some cash in reserve for when a player hits a hole-in-one. Only if BOTH the weekly fund AND the reserve fund reach $100 will we let the weekly fund go uncapped. Should multiple aces be hit on the same round players will split only the current fund so our reserve stays in tact.
CTP PRIZES: The Flyers will put together two (2) closest-to-the-pin prizes (CTP's) each week. One will be for prizes and the other for cash. Prizes for our CTP's will be provided by the Founding Flyers and will include discs, clothing, pint glasses, accessories, and other disc golf-related items. This CTP winner will get a choice from all the prizes we collect. Donations to the prize bin are welcome at any time for those that wish to contribute. The weekly cash CTP will be dependent upon how many players come out to our league rounds and decide to add to the purse. The cost will be $2 per session (or $1 for each CTP). We will pick shorter holes for these CTP prizes so that anyone could win during any given round. Again, these side contests are completely optional week-to-week.
THROWING FOR DOLLARS: Finally, we will have a throw-off for dollars following each doubles round. The cost will be $1 and all those that pitch in will get one throw to win the amount collected for the week. The distance will be short enough for a putt-and-approach shot so anyone can take down the pot. Closest to the basket will win but players must hit the bullseye to be eligible for cash. Should no one hit the target area funds will be donated to the club. All cash collected will go towards future events and course improvements.
Play will be scheduled each Thursday evening weather permitting. Should inclement weather occur and force a round to be canceled the weekly round will be omitted and subsequent rounds will follow the set schedue. Updates will be provided on Disc Golf Scene and Facebook to keep our club informed on any changes that may occur in a timely manner. Meeting times are set for 5:00 PM and tee off is set at 5:30 PM. To help league administration provide a positive experience for everyone we ask that players show up on time for play, bring exact change, follow the rules of the game to your best of their knowledge, show good sportsmanship on the course, and have as much fun as possible!
