Thanks to everyone for coming out! We tied our Week 9 record with 24 folks. And congratulations to Scott Groves for getting our first and only ace of the league on hole 6!
Scott also tied for first in A Pool, matching Chad Rutledge's 10 under. Brian Cassidy nudged out Seth for third place with a 45.
Morgan Leeds took down B Pool with a very solid 47, despite two bogeys!
We had 183 total players this league, with a good number of days over 20 folks! Thanks to everyone for showing up on time so we could get started right at 11.

We're running it back right away - Davis Park next week - we'll be starting with a nice fat $98 ace pot.

Now that I have payouts done, turn that money right back around to me if you're playing this week! I hear Boydo and Dan Allen (who doesn't suck despite what you hear from the Mad Biker) did a lot of work on the pads, so let's stomp some snow all over them! I mean...let's avoid walking on them unless we're throwing! But also let's have a good turnout and appreciate their hard work. I'll try to get out there tomorrow to do a final cleaning after the snow we're supposed to have tonight.

Ace pool is almost to $200 - as a reminder, the way it works is that over $100, 50% gets paid out for an ace. Under $100, $50 gets paid out, unless we're under $50, in which case you just get the whole pool. If two aces are hit in the same week, they'll get paid the same as each other but the total amount paid will be as if they were consecutive - for example if two got hit last week, the "first" would get half of $172, or $86, and the "second" would get $50 because less than $100 is in the ace pool. The total paid would be $136, so the two aces would split that...for $68 each. Bringing that up now because I have a feeling we're getting two aces this week. And at least one is coming from me.

Wow, what a turnout for week 9! 24 players, the most this year so far. Although I didn't see any of you, so now I don't know what to think! Still no aces - if we can get good attendance this week, we might be up to $100 payout for an ace! Since one league is flowing into the next these days, the ace pool will just roll over to the second winter league, which will just start the next Saturday available (Feb 5).

Scott Groves took down A pool with a 50, grabbing a 2 on Hole 6 blue, one of only two 2s (along with Cody Humphrey) on that one. Will Graham took second place, grabbing a 2 on hole 5 blue, the only one to do so.

Cyle Ziegler took down B pool with a stellar 54, birdieing both 5 and 6 on the reds. Chase "couldn't quite" Power his way past Cyle but still shot an excellent 55 to grab second.

Julia was swimming all by her lonesome in C pool but shot well over her rating!

Also, I'm traveling so there's no guarantee I can take your payment and give you a hole assignment on Saturday morning. Make sure to let me know you're coming by Friday night!

One thing, since I won't be there, I believe PDGA live scoring lets you add and remove players to your card. So if there's any day-of difficulty (let's say you're on a 3-pack and someone doesn't show up), you should be able to reassign yourselves to new holes. Get the scores in there, and I can sort out the official adjustments as necessary after the round.

Seth Asing smoked everyone in A Pool with a blazing-hot 13 under. I hear he was 7 for his first 7. What happened at the end there man? Just 6 of the last 11?

Dan Allen had the second-best overall score, and smoked B Pool by three strokes, with a 10-under. Dan and Chad Rutledge (A Pool) both got hole 3 both times they played it!

Tyler Pohler took down C Pool with a great back 9, improving by 5 strokes over his front 9.

Get your $$ in for week 9 - I'm going to be away this week, so I'll be running the club remotely. If you want to pay in cash, find someone else who has Venmo and have them send in a payment on your behalf. I'll also be traveling, so no guarantees you can get in late if you've been signing up on Saturday morning.

If a tie is kissing your sister, a three-way tie is...yeah let's not go there. But both pools had three-way ties at the top this week! Clint Fournier came up from Homer to an unfamiliar course and shot the second-best round we've had at Davis this winter. Scott Groves and James Beckner tied him with 50s to split A Pool.

Dan Allen, Samm Peterson, and Oliver Salem all shot 4 strokes clear of the rest of B Pool to take it in the 3-way tie, with a 56. Also shout out to Jeremy Lukas, who was one of two players to take a 3 on 18 this week!

Week 8 will be at Westchester - aces are now up to probably about $70! I'm feeling like someone's gonna hit this week!

Civil twilight is back after 5pm...won't be long until we're popping into that store in Cooper Landing for a giant ice cream cone after a frustrating tournament in Nikiski.

I've heard the Wednesday night crew is headed out there to clear the teepads a bit, and I'll be out there tomorrow and Friday to make sure there's no ice, whether from the sky or from The Mad Pisser, and see if we can get them clean and dry. Should be nearly TEN degrees on Saturday!

Joe Caissie and James Beckner both shot 50 to tie for the win in A Pool. Joe was the only bogey-free round on the day, while James overcame a double bogey on 4 with a barrage of 7 birdies to match.

Dan Allen grabbed B Pool, with the second-least bogeys on the day (just two). Dan's been playing some extremely efficient mistake-free golf this winter. Four people tied for the last cash spot in B Pool so you all get $1.32. I know a candy machine that still only charges $1.25 for a Snickers, so hit me up if you're looking for a place to drop all that cash.

Hi - I was cold and the ratings were doing something weird that I wanted to check on back home, so I didn't give out the disc in person. But now from the warmth of my living room, it looks like JEREMY LUKAS is the winner of the signed JohnE McCray Saint Pro with a round 36 points better than his rating. Tough luck to Dan Allen who shot 32 over, and Bill Brooks who shot 30 over, and Robert Johnson who shot 29 over. I may have missed someone so if you think you shot a lot over your rating, let me know. I'll give Jeremy the disc next week or whatever the next league he comes to is, unless someone tells me my math was bad.

Also, announcement: PLEASE if you are planning to renew your PDGA membership, do it soon. As of today, I think the round ratings calculator is saying a bunch of you don't have ratings.

Finally, if you were a 2021 member of ADGA, January is your grace period - you can still get the reduced $8 entry fee. But starting in the next league, you'll have to renew or pay $3 extra per round. You can renew by paying for the "tournament" that is out there if you filter your tournaments by Alaska, OR you can send me an extra $30 with your weekly entry fee at some point and I'll pass it along to the ADGA.

Thanks to the 8 people who came out this week, and a HUGE thanks to Rob Johnson, for juicing the payouts this week with $50, to reward the stalwart golfers coming out on Christmas! I'll see if I can get this league upgraded to an A-tier. Maybe National Tour event by next winter? I'm going to try and pay it forward next week; I'll throw in some gear in addition to the $5.50/pool member. Don't let that hangover keep you away!

Samm Peterson eked out a one-stroke win over Jeremy Boyd, to win B Pool with a 56. Nice job on Boyd's part, being the only one to get a 2 on 3 red, and way to go to Samm for being the only one to deuce 8 red!

Why yes, I have looked for over an hour for two different discs in the last two days. (Right side of 4's fairway and off in the woods on the left on 6, in case anyone ends up searching in that area.)

James Beckner dominated A Pool, with 11 birdies and a 1006-rated round. Osi Salem grabbed second, with birdies on half of the holes.

Oliver Salem took down B Pool, hitting last winter's bounty (no bounty this year, Oliver) by nailing holes 6-8 both times. Boyd got second with a 48, and was one of three players to birdie hole 3 (shout out to Beckner and Scott Groves).

There's been some snow overnight, and there will be more snow tomorrow morning, so plan on the teepads being in poor condition. I haven't put any work into them this week - I may get out there today but no guarantees. But the air temperature should be a balmy 15-20 degrees!

Lot of excitement both on and off the field in week 3. 19 folks came out to play a round that started off above 10 degrees but slowly dropped as the afternoon went on.

Scott Groves threw a smoking-hot 48, which I think with this layout might be the best anyone has thrown. Between 4 and 8 being in long position, there aren't a ton of gimmie birdies on the course anymore at Davis. James Beckner took second in A Pool with a 50.

B Pool was absolutely adorable, with ties for first, third, and fifth. Boydo and Dan Allen, two notorious criminals who are giving disc golfers a bad name by clearing off teepads so fatbikers can't ride over them, both tied for first. Boyd lit up the card with a bunch of deuces on the front matched with some deuces on the back, while Dan kept it smooth with a long string of pars.

Tyler Pohler was swimming all by his lonesome in C Pool and took that one down.

As alluded to, there was a bit of a kerfuffle with some guy who likes riding through Davis on his fatbike. He wants us to share the park with him, which means he gets to shovel snow over 2 long's teepad. He's no fan of disc golfers, so...just know this. I (and everyone else in the league) appreciate the work being done to keep the pads clean, and I reverse-appreciate anyone who selfishly undoes that work.

Ace pool is now above $50, so the next ace will get $50, until we get up above $100, at which point it'll be half of the ace pot. Hope to see you out at Westchester next week!

I'll have some brooms to send out with folks tomorrow in case I don't get to them. The snow is nice and loose and dry now, so we really want to avoid smashing it down into the concrete. Also, as Jeremy noted below, teepads are looking good - no salt needed! They could use a quick sweep with the bit of snow we got this morning (I did 1, 2, 3, 9 just now), and if you're headed out there in the next couple of days with an urge to help out, what they could all really use is a fresh shovel AROUND the pads. We try and keep the snow level below the pads all winter so that it doesn't spill/melt over onto the pad.

Good to see people out at Westchester yesterday, what with the temperature warming all the way up to 2 degrees by tee-off time!

Scott Groves took down A Pool with a smoking-hot 43, bogey-free. He birdied hole 3 both times, the only one in the field to do it at all other than Samm Peterson. I'm going to put myself on his card in two weeks to see how he does it. Osi Salem also threw down an extremely hot 44 to take second place.

Oliver Salem grabbed B Pool with a 48, and Samm grabbed second with a 49, as mentioned being the only one in the field other than Scott to birdie hole 3.

Tyler Pohler showed newbie Justin Conatser what C pool is all about, edging him out by one stroke to take first. Let Justin win next time, Tyler, we want him to come back!

Payouts coming in the next day or so. No aces this week - remember, the way we're doing the ace pot, payout for an ace will be at $50 until it gets to $100, at which point payout will be half of the pot. That way we can keep it nice and healthy so no one gets paid like $11 for an ace. I saw a long-range forecast that said it could be -19 for a HIGH a couple Saturdays from now (week 4). I think I might cancel the league if it's really that cold. I tried to play once at that temperature and it did NOT go well.

Lots of fluffy snow out there, so let's remember to use spotters. I've found that running up and down the fairway is a great way to keep warm when it's below zero, too...which it may be on Saturday!

Welcome back to winter leagues, where I'm stuck inside and bored so I have time to write recaps! 14 hearty souls showed out for leagues this week, which according to my car thermometer started out at -7. The discs felt brittle in my hands. No one on my card lost or broke a disc, though! Anyone else have that misfortune?

Joe Caissie (cool guy with an awesome car) took down A Pool with an extremely efficient 56 - two birdies and two bogeys. Oliver Salem and Dan Allen tied for the win in B Pool with 58s. Dan had a relatively clean round with 14 pars, but Oliver was more spectacular, spewing birdies and double bogeys all over the course.

I'll get payouts out early this week - we'll be at Westchester next week...long-range forecast is looking cold again, but usually it's a tiny bit warmer there than in Mountain View. Hope to see you all out there!

If you have an assignment on holes 1-9, that means you've paid me. If you're on holes 10+, you've let me know you're coming but I haven't gotten your money yet. And if you're not assigned a hole, you haven't told me you're coming.

Also, if you're not yet an ADGA member, it's a great time to sign up - you get membership credit for the rest of the year, AND 2022. It's $40 for new members, $30 to renew - it gets you reduced entry fees to likely 4 sanctioned singles leagues, plus a whole summer of doubles. Plus you help out the local club, which maintains the great courses here in southcentral.

Hi, folks - I've had three people talk to me about the leagues today - which don't exist. If you were planning to show up at Davis (well, I'll be there but just for normal disc golf), there won't be a league there on Saturday morning for a few more weeks.

Also: 10:30 or 11 start time? Please throw your two cents in comments below. I picked 10:30 because I was thinking if we ended early enough, there could be dubs afterwards, but if it'll be easier for people to get up for the 11 start, I'll change it to that.
