Well, the 2021 Deer Lakes League season is complete and what a year it was. In total there was 882 rounds played by 164 different players. It is absolutely awesome to see the league grow from averaging 13.4 players in 2016, to 16.6 in 2017, 18.7 in 2018 and 2019, 32.9 in 2020, and then 42.0 players per week this year!

Firstly I want to congratulate two players who attended every week, myself (yes, I'm going to congratulate myself) and Brendan Reed! Honorable mention also goes out to Chris Lachendro and Jared Fechter who each only missed one week.

On the points front, there were some tight battles and some not so tight battles. In Open, I managed to squeak out the victory on the final week over Chris Lachendro by just 3 points. In Advanced, Jed Farber ran away with the win as he collected 5 wins in the 13 weeks that he played. Matt Kennedy eked out the win in Intermediate by just 4.5 points over Jared Fechter as he won 7 of the 16 weeks that he played. Despite moving up to Intermediate halfway through the year, Jeff Coull dominated the Recreational division enough in the first half to easily take down the win for the year. Without too much competition, Molly Moore handily won the Advanced Women division for the year. And finally, simply by showing up a couple of times, Julia Lekht took down the win in Recreational Women. Congratulations to all of this years champions!

Thanks again to all who attended throughout the year. I already can't wait to see what next year brings!

42 total players came out to challenge the blue tees on a beautiful Labor Day. Shooting the hot score on the day was Matt Rosier and Vinny Montanari with -4, 62s to take down the Open division. Just two strokes back from them was Cam Weber who snagged the win in Advanced with a -2, 64. Grabbing his 7th win of the year in Intermediate was Matt Kennedy who shot a -1, 65 while Sam Heeter took down the Recreational division with a +4, 70. Jodi Lincoln and Lea Vasey battled it out in the Advanced Women division, but Jodi came out on top by just two strokes for the win.

No aces were hit since May 17th, so the ace pot swells to $535 while the birdie pot sits at $61. Both of these will carry over to next year. I have a feeling turnout will be great the first couple of weeks next year as people try to track down the aces from the red tees for a big payday. Zack Vestal won the CTP on hole 6. He took home an extra $34 for his great 2nd shot!

23 players stuck around for some Red, White, and Blue doubles after the cookout. Josh Gibbons snuck out the win playing cali shooting a -17, 49 and won $47 all for himself. Ryan Szoldatits and Jesse Kummer took 2nd with a 50 for $16 each, while team Sam (Hockenberry and Heeter) shot a 51 for $10 each, and Chris Lachendro and Jeff Coull shot a 52 for $8 each.

Per the PDGA, divisions that had finished (MA1 and FA1) will keep all 18 holes played and divisions which did not finish (all others) will keep the first 13 holes. By far the biggest benefactor of this was Mark Fedorenko who dumped his bad holes and jumped into the win in Open with a -10. Macky D takes home the win in Advanced with a -6 while Jesse Holeczy grabs the win in Intermediate with a -4. Shooting her best round of the year, Molly Moore dominated the Advanced Women division with a -3. Finally, Sam Heeter snagged the win in Recreational with an even.

Unfortunately the time has come for the league finale this Monday, but at least that means we get to play the traditional Labor Day blue tee round. We will be teeing off at 10am sharp and cards will be pre-made by division and by point standings. I'll have this posted Sunday night and will have a copy of the hole assignments in the parking lot.

Be sure to stick around after the round for a cookout with hotdogs, hamburgers, and adult pops at the pavilion up top followed by the traditional $5 red, white, and blue doubles round with partners paired up by their blue tee round score (best score paired with worst score, etc.).

Two groups did not finish the round on Monday, so we once again will need to adjust the scores. The problem is that the PDGA is confusing and I'm not certain I need to just adjust the scores of the divisions that didn't finish (everything but Advanced and Advanced Women) or adjust all of the divisions. I'm hoping to hear back from the PDGA tomorrow morning, at which time I will make a decision. Because of that, payouts haven't been completed yet. Once the scores are set, I'll add the credit in.

At least we know who won the CTP and that was Simon Lantinga for his park job on his 2nd shot of hole 13. Additionally, Kevin Sines struck the birdie pot for getting holes 6, 8, and 9. No aces again as the ace pot sits at $499 right now. It sure is going to be a nice payday once someone cashes in on it!

36 players came out to enjoy a slightly breezy evening at Deer Lakes last night. Tying for the hot score on the evening with -9, 57s were Brendan Reed taking down the Open division and Jed Farber winning the Advanced division. Just one stroke behind the hot scores was Sam Hockenberry who won Intermediate with a -8, 58. Sam Heeter dominated the Recreational division by 5 strokes with a -5, 61 while Molly Moore got the win in Advanced Women with a +2, 68.

It has now been 13 weeks since an ace was hit as the pot continues to grow to $456! The birdie pot on the other hand continues to get decimated as Sam Heeter snags birdies on holes 1, 2, and 6 to win an extra $52. Sam Hockenberry won the CTP on hole 12 for an extra $31.

As a reminder, there are two weeks remaining in the 2021 season. Next week will be a normal week from the white tees with the last tee at 5:15pm and then the league finale will occur on Labor Day with the traditional 10am blue tee round follow by a cookout (provided by the league) and seeded doubles. A blisteringly hot day saw a total of 40 players come out and tackle the white tees for league this evening. The hot round this evening came from Andrew Greenslade with a -11, 55 besting a field of 10 Open players. Jed Farber grabbed the win in Advanced with a -7, 59 while Jared Fechter grabbed the win in Intermediate with a -4, 62. Charlie Houck won the Recreational division with a -2, 64 shooting nearly 80 points over his rating. Molly Moore and Lucy Bender were uncontested in Advanced and Recreational Women respectively so they each take home wins as well!

Brendan Reed once again put his shot next to the basket to win the CTP, this time on Hole 15 to grab another $33 to add to his CTP stash. Once again, there were no aces on the day as the ace pot continues to grow past $400 now. The birdie pot gets a break after paying out back-to-back weeks as no one hit it.

Beautiful weather brought out a total of 45 players on 8/2. Besting the field on the day was myself with a -12, 54 winning the Open division while Devin Shumaker won Advanced shooting a -9, 57. Jeff Coull took down the Intermediate division by one stroke shooting a -6, 60 (950 rated!) and Sam Heeter goes back-to-back, this time besting the field by 6 strokes with a +1, 67. Molly Moore once again snagged the win in Advanced Women with a +1, 67.

Somehow winning the CTP was Shawn Cochran parking his 2nd shot on Hole 1 to win an extra $40 on the evening. Once again there were no aces as the ace pot continues to swell. The birdie pot did get hit again, this time by two players; however, one did not opt in to the birdie pot, so Jed Farber grabs the whole payout by birdieing 2, 4, 6, and 14 for an additional $44.

A grand total of 47 players showed up to play on 7/19 with the hot score of the evening going to Chris Lachendro shooting a -12, 54 to take down Open by 4 strokes. The hot scores weren't only dropped in Open as Ben Zebrasky shot his highest rated round ever with a 990 shooting a -10, 56 taking down Advanced. Jared Fechter won Intermediate with a -4, 62, Michael Anderson won Recreational an even, 66, and Molly Moore won Advanced Women with an even as well. Jessica Schrock didn't have any competition in the Recreational Women division so she takes down the win uncontested.

Brendon Reed won the CTP on Hole 4 for an extra $39. There were no aces and the birdie pot survived with no one birdieing the required holes.

2) If you signed up and aren't going to make it, please let me know. I hang around until 5:30 waiting for people to show up, so if you aren't going to make it and everyone else has arrived, I can tee off instead of waiting for you.
3) This is a PDGA sanctioned league, so PDGA rules are applicable. The most common rules I see being broken are not using a mini when marking your lie (you're not allowed to flip your disc) and falling putts. Please be sure to follow the rules! Also, scores need to be done on the PDGA site (pdga.com/score, access code Deer2021).

There were some fire scores out at Deer Lakes League this evening as 33 players tried to best the course. Shooting the hot round on the day for the 2nd week in a row was Mark Fedorenko with a -12, 54 this week. Tyler Presloid grabbed the win in Advanced and Jeff Coull dominated Intermediate, each shooting -6, 60s. Michael Sutherland was 5 strokes clear in the Recreational division shooting a blistering -5, 61. Molly Moore and Lucy Bender were each uncontested in Advanced and Recreational Women respectively.

Adam Couture once again snags the CTP on Hole 8 for an additional $24. Once again there were no aces on the day so the ace pot continues to swell and the birdie pot finally got a rest as no one birdied the required holes. Will the hot scores continue next week?

A grand total of 50 players came out on a toasty 5th of July evening to enjoy a great evening of disc golf. Leading the pack in the Open field was Mark Fedorenko who shot a -11, 55. Brendan Reed took down the Advanced division for the 4th week in a row shooting a -7, 59. The only thing hotter than the temperature today were the scores! The best round of the day goes to Cody Winget and myself shooting -12, 54s to take down the Open field. Brendan Reed grabbed another win in Advanced shooting a -8, 58. Catching fire in Intermediate was Jared Fechter as he bested the field by 4 strokes shooting a -7, 59 and Josh Almes snagged the win in Recreational shooting a -3, 69. Molly Moore and Julia Lekht also came out in the Advanced Women and Recreational Women divisions respectively and both won their divisions without competition.

The poor birdie pot continues to get decimated as Brendan Reed hit it from the Advanced division birdieing holes 2, 6, 14, and 15 and Pasquale Coppola hit it from the Intermediate division birdieing holes 2, 6, and 15. Both will take home $30 for their awesome birdies. Ben Zebrasky won the CTP on Hole 8 for an additional $30. No aces again today, so the ace pot crosses over $200 for the first time since week 1!

Whew. I think I finally got the mess of last week all sorted out. If you had paid and did not attend, I put your entry fee into the credit page. If you were going to use credit, I just didn't deduct it for the week.

For the round, in accordance with the PDGA's Mid-Event Weather Suspension & Cancellation Guidelines since 13 or more of the same holes were played by all players, those 13 holes were counted. All scores from holes 14-18 were deleted and the round is entered as a 13 hole layout on the PDGA site. This seemed to work out for many people as some folk's ratings jumped by upwards of 45 points from their 18 hole round. The worst decrease in rating was only 10 points, so that isn't too bad.

Shooting hot on the day was Cody Winget who went -8 on the first 13 holes to take down the open field. Brendan Reed went -4 to win Advanced. Matt Kennedy benefited from removing extra holes and ended up snagging a -5 to win Intermediate. Jeff Coull shot a -3 to win Rec. by 4 strokes (his 6th win in a row......) and Molly Moore took down the Advanced Women's division by scaring everyone away.

Since all players played through the CTP hole (Hole 11), the CTP is good to be paid out. Cody Winget walked away with an extra $25. Matt Kennedy hit the birdie pot by birdieing holes 6, 9, and 13 for an additional $73. While the Open field did have hole 14 as one of their birdie holes, no players had the chance to hit it so I don't see any issue in awarding this out. There were no aces on the day, but if there were, it would have only count for holes 1-13. Just putting that out there for future reference.

Under a thunderstorm watch and beautifully blue skies, 38 players took on Deer Lakes League this evening. Shooting the hot round on the evening was myself and Chris Lachendro, both shooting -11, 55s to win the Open division. Tying for the win in Advanced was Brenan Reed (his 4th of the year) and Devin Shumaker shooting -6, 60s. Also shooting a -6, 60 was Matt Kennedy to win the Intermediate division. Jeff Coull continues his dominance of the Recreational division, winning his 5th week in a row, this week by 7 strokes with an even, 66. Molly Moore snagged a 5 stroke win in the Advanced Womens division shooting a +3, 69.

No aces this evening and the birdie pot lives on as well. I won the CTP on hole 8, so that was also cool.

On a humid evening, 39 people came out to get rid of their demons from the Am PFDO. Shooting the hot round on the day was Andrew Greenslade with a -9, 57 to win Open. Just one stroke off of the hot round was Matt Murphy shooting a killer -8, 58 to take down Advanced. Dan Liang won Intermediate with a -3, 63 and Jeff Coull won Recreational with a +5, 71.

There were no aces and the birdie pot lives on, so it continues to build for a nice little payday. Adam Couture won the CTP on hole 7 and snags an extra $33. For some reason the points are messed up, so I'll post an update after this session closes out.

Whew. I finally have all the results and money complete from this past Monday's special round, so here's the results. First off, we obliterated the league record and had a grand total of 73 players show up this week! Shooting the hot round on the day was Vinny Montanari with a -7, 59 besting the 20 person Open field from the blue tees. Taking down the 17 person Advanced field was a tie at the top with Jed Farber and Andrew Barlow shooting -1, 65s. Dominating the 19 person Intermediate field by 4 strokes was Andrew Heltsley shooting a +2, 68. Surviving the blue tees the best in the Advanced Women's division was Jodi Lincoln who finished 7 clear of her closest competitor with a +11, 77. Moving up to the white tees, Jeff Coull won the Recreational division shooting a +3, 69 and Julia Lekht just barely eked out the win in the Recreational Women's division.

The two big winners on the day though were Mike Vasey who parked Hole 2 for the CTP to grab an extra $62 and Zach Guiciardi who one again hit the birdie pot, birdieing holes 2 and 16 for an extra $60. No one hit the ace pot, so at least that builds up a little.

A huge thanks to everyone who helped get the course ready this past weekend and for BJ Reiher who came out and lent us his grill and was grill master supreme. Hope to see you all out next week!

Welcome to the 2021 Memorial Day Special for Deer Lakes League. Due to many new players, this year is going to be a little different than years past. In order to offer different tees, I have sanctioned this week as a C-tier which means the league entry fees are $8 this week. Please be sure to pay the extra $1 so that I don't have to chase you down!!!

All divisions will be playing the blue tees except MA3 and FA3 who will be playing the white tees. Yes, I am offering an FA3 division for this week so allow women who want to play, but don't want to throw the blues a chance to throw from the whites.

After the round, there will be a cookout held at the pavilion by hole 7s basket with free burgers and dogs and adult pops. These are paid for by your league fees throughout the year, so there is no need to donate extra money for it. Don't worry, it isn't coming out of my pocket.

After the round and everyone is refueled, we'll have an optional, $5 Red, White, and Blue doubles with partners seeded based on your first round scores. People may show up for just the doubles round (or may skip doubles) and I'll seed them based off of an estimate of where they normally shoot. We will play holes 1-6 from the reds, 7-12 from the blues, and 13-18 from the whites.

Please sign up as early as possible so that I can pick up the right amount of food and so that I can get the PDGA site all set up since this is a special C-tier. We will be doing a shotgun start at 10am sharp, so please don't be late. Hole assignments will be posted at 8am Monday morning. DO NOT USE THE NORMAL LEAGUE PASSWORD IN TOURNAMENT MANAGER. You should keep score using the C-tier password "memorialday".

32 total players showed up to a humid, but completely rain free evening of Deer Lakes League for week #7. Shooting the hot round of the day was myself, finally, beating the entire Open field by 2 strokes shooting a -11, 55. Brenden Reed got the win in Advanced, shooting a -9, 57 and James McBride got the win in Intermediate shooting a hot -7, 59. Jeff Coull took down a field of 8 in Recreational shooting a -2, 64. But all that was moot as the fireworks were in the Advanced Women division as five women battled it out. In the end Robin Eng birdied the last two holes to secure a one stroke win shooting a -1, 65.

For the 2nd week in a row, Josh Gibbons walks away with the CTP earning himself an extra $26. There were finally no aces on the day to let the ace pot rest up some and, while the birdie pot was hit, the player didn't pay in, so that continues to build too. Shame...

It was another great week with 44 players showing up to try to shoot hot with everything in the short pins. Chris Lachendro shot the hot round on the day with a -11, 55 snagging the win in Open. Just one stroke behind him though was Brendan Reed and Tyler Presloid tying for the win in Advanced shooting -10, 56s. Just two strokes behind them was Matt Kennedy shooting -8, 58 to take home the win in Intermediate. Jeff Coull took down the Recreational division with a -3, 63 and Molly Moore scared away the competition and shot an even, 66.

For the 3rd week in a row, we had an ace hit but at least it wasn't on the CTP hole this week. Kevin Sines aced hole #5 and is taking home an extra $50 for his awesome shot! The birdie pot was also hit twice this week by Michael McCormick and Pete Paredes who both birdies holes 1, 2, and 13. They are each getting $77 for their birdies. And Josh Gibbons takes home the CTP on hole #8 adding an extra $39. Great shooting everyone!

As expected, there was a throng of people attending league tonight as we broke the 50 person barrier for the first time with a total of 52 players!

Coming in with the hot round for the 2nd time this year was Anson Reppermund taking down the Open field with a -10, 56. Just eking out the three way tie for 2nd in Advanced was Jed Farber with a -8, 58. Taking home the win in in the 17 person Intermediate field was Eric Dougherty with a -4, 62 and dominating the Recreational field was Dan Ziober with a -2, 64. Jodi Lincoln and Robin Eng battled it out in the Advanced Women's division with Jodi coming out on top shooting an even, 66 on the day.

For the 2nd week in a row, the CTP hole was aced. This week, Cody Winget takes home the big prize with his awesome shot on hole 12 with a Prodigy M4. Cody snags $65 for the ace and $46 for the CTP.

Despite all of the A-pins, no one hit the birdie pot. Well, except for Brendan Reed who birdied holes 2, 4, 6, and 16, but he didn't buy in, so he misses out on the $87 payout...

A couple of housekeeping notes. Please be sure to pay when you register. If you are unable to attend, I'll just add your payment to the credit sheet. (I'm looking at you Anthony Lokar...) If you would like to be paid out, let me know and I can send your payment. Also, after your round, please be sure to confirm your scores in the PDGA scoring app. Otherwise I have to assume they are correct and do some work on my side to make them official.

With the threat of rain, there were a lot of scared people who didn't show up despite no actual rain and even some blue skies but we still had 27 play in slightly soggy conditions.

Shooting the hot scores on the day were Andrew Greenslade and Ryan Szoldatits with -10, 56s, just barely breaking the unofficial 1000 rating mark to take down Open. Brendan Reed would have tied for 3rd in Open, but instead took down Advanced with a -5, 61. Right behind Brendan was Ryan Birchard winning Intermediate with a -4, 62. Andrew Walsh and Molly Moore won Rec. and Adv. Women respectively shooting +5, 71s.

For the fourth time this year, the ace pot has been hit! Alex Williamson aced hole 4 for his first ever ace to take down an extra $93. In addition to the ace pot, this was also the CTP, so he lines his pockets with another $22 for his effort there. Great shot!

43 total players braved the white tees tonight on a picture perfect evening. Shooting the hot round on the day was Vinny Montanari capturing a -13, 53. Vinny managed to snag 3 eagles on his way to an unofficially rated 1021 round.

Macky D and Zach Guiciardi were in a sharing mood as they tied for the win in Advanced with -3, 63s, but they couldn't best the top Intermediate score from Matt Kennedy who walked away with the win besting the field by 3 strokes with a -5, 61. Charlie Houck took down the Recreational division with a +3, 69 (nice) and Molly Moore was the lone participant in the Advanced Women's division, so she got an easy win.

Gerald Haynes grabbed the CTP on hole 5 for an extra $32. There were no aces today, but after his albatross two weeks ago, Zach Guiciardi is now draining the birdie pot as he birdied holes 2, 4, 13, and 16 to take home an extra $120!

With the CTP on hole 5, if you head out early, you might want to start on the back 9, or bring a flag with you to put out for the CTP if you start on the front. A grand total of 46 players showed up this week for Deer Lakes league which breaks the previous record of 45 players. I have a feeling I'll be saying that a lot this year. The hot score of the day came from the Open division with Andrew Greenslade and Chris Lachendro shooting nice -14, 52s. Brad Sauder grabbed the win in Advanced with a -13, 53, but tied Matt Kennedy and James McBride who took down the win in Intermediate. Molly Moore grabbed the win in Advanced Women with a -8, 58 and Andrew Walsh beat out the Recreational field by three strokes with a -9, 57.

After two aces and an albatross last week, there were no aces or albies today, so the ace pot grows to $101. The birdie pot was hit by Matt Kennedy birdieing holes 2, 16, 17, and 18, buuuuut, he didn't pay into the birdie pot, so I think that means we can heckle him. That pot grows up to $164. Chris Lachendro dropped his drive next to the basket on hole 17 for an extra $40.

Wow, did Week #1 start off with a bang. Right out of the gates, the league record from the red tees goes down as Anson Reppermund crushes everyone from the Advanced field shooting a -17, 49 (currently unofficially rated a 1011). Thankful that Anson played Advanced, Dan Horwat, Josh Gibbons, and Adam Couture shared the win in open, 4 strokes behind Anson with -13s. Jared Fechter and Sam Rudy snagged the win in the Intermediate field by 3 strokes with -10s while Molly Moore eked out the win in Advanced Women and Dustin Cochenour barely snagged the win in Recreational. Great shooting all!

The other story of the day was the ace/albatross pot getting hit three (3!) times!!! Jeff Snyder snagged the ace on hole 11, Jesse Kummer got hole 17, and Zach Guiciardi grabbed the albatross 2 on the par 5, 14th. Each will take home an additional $68 for their great shots.

Sam Rudy collected the CTP for his 2nd shot on hole 16 for an extra $33. All those hot scores, and no hit the birdie pot.

Going to try something different this year in letting people tee off starting at 3pm to try to not cause such a backup out on the course. All groups must be a minimum of 3 people and shouldn't have more than 4 for pace of play. Only downside I can see to this is that there may not be a flag out for CTP. Not sure how to resolve that.

I plan to arrive by 4:30 today to check other folks in and make sure that everything is running smoothly. The last card will tee off by 5:15 so that we have enough daylight.

We will continue to use PDGA live scoring and each group must have someone who keeps score for the card there. Reception can be a little spotty out there, so I suggest at least making the card while in the parking lot which seems to have the best reception. Scoring can be found at pdga.com/score and the password for the league is Deer2021.

A reminder that we will be playing the RED tees tonight in the interest of daylight. The league record is an unimpressive -16. Can anyone take that down this evening?

Let's go!!! Week #1 of the 2021 Deer Lakes League season gets underway this Monday! Due to daylight concerns and just for fun, we'll be starting off from the red tees for at least the first two weeks. If you haven't seen the schedule, we are less than a week away from the start of Deer Lakes League! I can't wait to get back out on the course and the weather this week looks to be amazing to get warmed up for the year. I just wanted to make a quick post of the changes for this year.

First off, with the growth of the league, we will now be offering a Recreational division! The Intermediate division was getting a little large and the rating gap between the best and worst players in the division was a little too spread out to give fair play among everyone, so this new division should keep it competitive across players. I also wanted to remind everyone that I do offer an Advanced Women's division. With the growth of the women's game in Pittsburgh, it would be awesome to get a competitive field of women out each week.

The other minor change that people probably won't even notice is a change in the birdie holes. I looked at the data from last year and have modified which holes are being picked from which division. In the end, it comes out to the birdie pot being hit about once every 100 rounds, so that seems to work for me.

The Int, Rec, and Adv. Women birdie holes will include two of holes 2, 6, 8, 13, and 17, and one of holes 1, 4, 7, 9, and 15. Advanced will then add one of the remaining eight holes and Open will add two more holes on to that. Basically, it means that the lower divisions will never need to birdie holes 3, 5, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, or 18 to hit the birdie pot.

Last year's system for registration and league play seemed to work extremely well, so we will continue with having people sign up and pay online prior to play and payouts will be completed through PayPal and Venmo with a rolling credit sheet. This definitely took a lot of work off of my plate, so we'll continue with this method this year.

I've been getting a couple of questions about joining the league, so I guess I should make a post on how to join. Well, just show up!

Actually, I guess it is a little more involved then that. I will make a post each week which will link to a google forms form which I request that you sign up at so that I know who is attending. Additionally, I am asking people to once again send the entry fees electronically through either PayPal or Venmo. I can accept cash day up, but strongly prefer to take funds electronically as it makes the paperwork easier for myself and avoids covid exposure.

If you are concerned that this is a PDGA sanctioned league and you aren't a PDGA member, fear not. You do not have to be a PDGA member to attend this league. All that means is that we are adhering to the PDGA rules and the rounds will be rated, so if you are a newer player and want to establish your PDGA rating, this is a great way to do it.

I do count points throughout the year; however, there isn't any payout at the end of the year, just a small trophy for each division winner, so don't worry if you can only attend a couple of times throughout the year.
