It’s great to back in the US of A! I had an extraordinary time in Japan as a competitor and as an ambassador for our country and sport. I wish I could share every moment with each of you. I’ll begin by telling you that we were all treated like royalty and that everyone involved with this tournament went above and beyond their call of duty. I’ve been to a few tourneys in my travels and this is the best of the best in my experience.
I had a lot of help preparing for my trip and I would like to take time to thank a few people. First, my Sponsor Terry Miller, for his apparel and disc selections made available to me. I’d also like to thank Dane Miller for working with me on my disc selection, as well. It sounds easier than it is. Learning to throw 150 class disc was quite a challenge for me. It was one thing to throw them here at our sea level. but in Japan the discs throw much different at 3000 feet above sea level.
If you’re ever thinking of taking a trip to a major tournament you should consider this one to be the crown jewel. If that means prepping by going to other majors or NT’s around the country, then do it. It’s more than just a disc golf tournament. It’s a chance to meet disc golfers from around the globe, experience the culture, and immerse yourself in all that’s offered as part of the tournaments all-inclusive package. The food was authentic and outstanding. I had some wild taste experiences. It’s hard to believe that I met Japanese players that have been playing for more than 20 years. Who knew that there was disc golf in Japan 20 years ago!
On with the last week of our league! I would like to thank you all for a pleasurable and easy league to run. I would like to also thank Dane and Nolan for all their help, too.
This was an exciting 8 week league with a couple of lead changes along the way. That always adds to the fun. We’ll start with the Rec. division. Jason “Walleye” started strong this league, but the new guys found a way to land the big one. Brandon started a little slow but picked up the pace at the end showing he can compete with the Adv. guys. Sam also put together some pretty good rounds, never getting above par. Steve came in under the radar gaining points by playing every week. I would like Brandon and Sam to move into the Advanced division because they are capable of shooting under par. I know it’s great to be at the top of the pack, but at this league if you’re under par at the Rec. level we move you up. Doing so will elevate your game. Steve is scoring where he needs to be. He did not shoot lights out, but finished decently week after week and ended up finishing first.
In the Open division for the first couple of weeks were just two players, me and D-money. It was nice to see more open players the last couple of weeks. D-money needed this win for the overall points win, but that did not come to pass. I was the points victor for the division. However, I was beaten for the first time in two seasons by Josh Cleveland…who’s not invited back (kidding!) I have to regain my awesome status now that you’ve seen me bleed…hmmm. I hope to see you all back in our next session that starts this Thursday.
In the hotly contested Advanced division there was more than one lead change from the start. Matt K. “Scraps” led it for a while but thought Matt A. should take the lead from him. In all the fuss Ryan thought that he should have the lead and not share it! Well done Ryan and welcome to the Open division! This is an opportunity for you to step it up. I know you can bring it and if your ever in doubt just ask…I won’t tell you how to beat me but I will clue you in on how to play your best golf.
Last but not least! How about that ACE from Danny on his last drive on his last hole! The hole was number four and it was worth one hundred big ones…Nice Job Danny. That clears the ace board for the next session.

Well, typically these posts are done by our fearless leader, Rumble. But since he was in Japan this past week representing our Spassland league among many other USA disc golfers, I thought I would take this time to post a tribute to him along with some details about this weeks league.

First off, a HUGE congratulations goes to to our Open League leader, Mr Rumble. He has spent the past 7+ days in Japan playing in the Japan Open. For those of you not familiar with this tournament, it is a 150 class disc tourney only. As we would expect nothing less, Rumble spent a lot of time getting his 150 class plastic dialed in before he left for Japan. I am sure he has lots of great stories and lessons learned that he can share with us, but in a nutshell out man represented well by taking 25th in the Open Mens division out of 97 total Open Men competitors. He shared this experience with our League sponsor, Terry Miller who brought home 27th place and another local, JV who brought home 44th place. Great work and congratulations to all three of you.

This week at league was an interesting one. It wasn't really about the play, but who didn't show up. Matt Klowak, one of our top Advanced players was not present and neither was Sam Cleveland our top Rec player. With these guys not in attendance a couple points were missed on their part.

In the Recreational division Brandon stepped up with a spectacular -4 to represent in Sam's absense. We also had a new rec this week. Andy brought his lady friend out to league this week, I guess there was some 'incentive' for her to come out. We will see if Andy is 'singing' about it next week at league. I will leave the stories to him. Nicole, hope you keep coming out, it was fun playing with you.

In the Advanced division Matt Atherton and Ryan Fenton came in all tied up. They competed their playoff with Matt taking home the win. The Advanced scores were tight with -5's through -2's. Great work guys!

The open division was a tight race with Rumble not present. I was able to hold on to the win shooting a -11 with Andy and Josh never letting me get too far ahead of them coming in with a -10 and -9.

I was tempted to make this a double points night so that I could make a move on Rumble in his absence but decided that would be quite right. I tried to get everyone to play open with me so I might be able to gain some points that way as well but once again no one bought in on that.

Oh well, I am just going to have to dig down and find a way to beat Rumble this week at league so I have a chance at first place.

What a great night for some golf! We had our biggest group of the season on Thursday with 16 golfers. We we’re joined by two new players Steve and Sam. Please help them to feel at home when they are in your group. It was great to see Tammy, long time no talk…hopefully we’ll see more of you. We played alternate tee’s for the second half of our round and I think everyone liked them. Rumble shot the course up, getting ready for the Japan Open. There was a three way tie for the Adv. Division and the new kid took it to the Rec. field after posting what he said was his best round ever out there.
In the Open division we had two players Rumble and D-Money…(we seriously need some more open players!) I thought Brett or Eric would try to take down the Rumble this season, oh well better off anyway…someone said that they over heard Rumble say “aint no milk fed, mouth breather beatin’ me in my own kitchen! (Yep, I’d be careful of that cornered animal.) I ramble on to much sometimes. Anyway, Rumble takes the win with a neg. 15 to D’s neg. 6. D-money is working on Rumbles’ take down. Rumble is out next week and D-Money is mounting a sneak attack for the points, more of this next week.
In the Rec. division we had 8 competitors and Walleye/Jason wanted his points. Walleye had two new guys to cover plus the ladies are bringing their beat down sally sticks to catch some big game fish. Fearless Bonnie still gives it all 40 feet and in and once Steph harnesses her driver power, all in the Rec. division will come to fear her too! Bonnie shot a plus 14 to shot 7 better than last week and Stephanie shot a plus 11 going 8 strokes better than last week. Tammy’s back in form, shooting plus 4 her first week back. Walleye leads the Rec. division shooting an even par and staying 2 and a half in front of Andrew Rumble. Sam Cleveland, new guy took the Rec. division by storm and taking no prisoners! Sam shot a neg. 3 his first time out and taking the points. He’s 4 back of Walleye and 1 and a half behind Andrew Rumble after his first week. Great shooting Sam! Keep your friends close and your enemy’s closer...
In the much heated Advanced division you had 6 guys scrapin’ for points! 2 strokes separated the field. Nolan and Luca shot neg. 2 to get “uh gats” which means manage where I’m from. Danny shot a neg. 3 all alone and won pocket dust! And there was a three way tie at neg. 4 With Ryan, Matt A, and Matt K aka Scraps. Klowak won the play off and Ryan and Matt A. split the points. Scraps leads with 21 points with Matt Atherton 2 and a half back and Ryan Fenton 4 strokes back.
I will not be there next week but Nolan and Dane D-Money will be there for sure. Nolan please remove the lock off the reader board until further notice. You can give it to me the next time you see me. We are using the alternate tee’s again and also we are just using two discs. This means you grab two discs from your bag and that’s what you have for the round. If you have any questions I’m sure Nolan and Dane will be able to answer them.

It was nice to meet new faces this week, Stephanie and Bonnie. They are friends of Matt A and under his suggestion they came to play. I know it was a little wet out there and it was a bit windy but Danny you need to man up on crappy days like this. We took a vote and headed off to our hole assigments. Three groups of 4. Two new players in my group, I have to say I was quite impressed with both of their play. I can’t say they are straight up beginners but I’m happy that they came out on such a questionable weather night.
Ok, enough with the new league players…on with the round!
Along with it being very wet it was very windy and it felt like it got windier as the round went on.
In the Open division there where two players, J Rumble and D-Money Miller. Both shot under par Johnny with a neg 5 and Dane with a neg 4. Dane bogied his last hole to seal his fate…but kept Rumble honest while Rumble tried out some of his 150 class discs for his upcoming tournament in Japan. Rumble leads the division by 3.
In the Rec. Division we had 3 players, 2 of which are new to the league. Andrew had the night off due to illness and Jason thought he’d get off easily with his win. He did win but I can see these gals giving him a run at the end of the league…stay tuned. Jason takes the lead in his division by one over Andrew. Good score by Jason shooting a plus 12. You guys missed all the fun when Stephanie tried to splash Bonnie with a kick of water but the course gods would not let it be and poor Steph ended up on her bum in a very large puddle…kick splash for Steph, FAIL. I’m chuckling right now…
In the Adv. Division we had 7 competitors. We welcomed back Nolan who’s been out of town the past couple of weeks. The scores kept pretty tight regardless of the conditions. Luca and Ryan both shot one under par. Ryan was the victor after their sudden death playoff. Well done Ryan, two and a half behind Matt K and one and a half back of Matt A. Luca very nice shooting also, not easy to shoot under par with that wind blowing like that. Matt K shot an even par to keep his lead in the division but it looks like some of these guys are starting to make their moves.
Well, that’s all I got, we’ll see you all on Thursday. I hear it’s supposed to be nice.

It’s nice to have league running again but this cold weather just sucks! We dawned our winter hats and gloves, I know a couple of you guys had shorts on with a little extra gear on top. Dane pulled out a hand warmer (said his taco was cold).
We started out with CTP before the round, and I kind of liked it. We went out in 2 groups of 5, I liked the camaraderie that comes with this size group. I also liked watching Danny sweat a nine foot putt so we could get our star duce hole on number 4!!
In the Rec. division we had 2 players, Walleye shot half what he shot last week but still needs to brig that to around even. Andrew shot a plus two to take the win.
In the Open division we also had two players, D-Money shot a stroke better than last week and Rumble shot one shot worse. Rumble takes the win with a neg. 13.
In the Adv. division we had 6 players, there was a play off for first between Matt K. and Matt A. Matt K. takes the win and the points for this week. Matt K. was in my group and was not playing very well most of the round but turned it on at the end to finish minus 4 and tied with Matt K. The Matt’s are tied for first after two weeks of play. Danny shot a neg. 2 to take third all alone for the round. Danny and Ryan are tied up for third at 5.5 points. Luca and Jim are bringing up the rear with 2.5 points. I’d watch that Jim kid, he can come up from behind when you least expect it.
We talked of alternate tees for future rounds, and I have some other ideas to make our little course a little more challenging/interesting.
Well that’s all I got for now, practice you’re putting ‘cause you don’t want me making comments when you have 10 footer!

Welcome to the 2010 spring season of Lifetime Disc Sports-Spassland Disc League...LDS-SDL
Not a very big turn out but lots of familiar faces and one new player Jason Fenton.
What a beautiful evening to start things off! A little breezy but the sun was nice and warm.
There where 3 groups of 3 which played very quickly, I believe we got done with awards and where out of there in about 1and a half hours.
In the Rec division there where two players, Jason/Walleye, and little Rumble. Little Rumble put up a personal best and shot even for 18 holes with one bird and one bogie. Jason shot an 11 over but I gotta believe he'll be in form in the next couple of weeks. On a personal note, Walleye, if you want, let me know when you get out there and I can do a one on one with you to tweek your game.
Advance had 5 players and the scores where very tight at the top. Matt Klowack put the beat down on the course and his opponents tonight and I think he's going to try and lead from start to finish...I did say this last year and I don't even want to think of what happened after those comment. Good luck kid!
Matt A shot a respectable minus 9 and new guy Ryan F shot a minus 8...not bad. Danny and Luca tied for the caddie position at the end of the season.
In the Open there where 2 fierce players, Rumble and D-Money. The start on hole one went like this...Rumble tee's off and is 5 ft from the pin, Danny tee's and goes left threw the trees and is 35-40 ft left above the pin and D-Money tees off high wide right into the tree. Danny stands up like a man, no fear and drains the manly putt! Great putt Danny!! D-Money makes a decent effort but blows by the basket, Rumble puts down his bag and is making some smart comments putts and hits high on the basket to miss a very make-able putt...DOH! Danny held the box until hole 4, D-Money made a great drive for a drop in duce on 3. I heard what Matt shot and thought I better try a little harder or I'm going to take it in the shorts by an 8TH GRADER! I only beat Matt by 3 strokes but I'm going to try a little harder next week.
Matt A brought out the hackey sack at the beginning and was hacking with Luca, its been a few years but I jumped in and so did Jason...my legs need a good stretching out before the round and I think that did the trick, lets do it some more next week.
CTP's because Danny wanted me to mention them, Danny and Jason got it closest to basket one from the parking lot.
OK kiddies that’s week one, practice you’re putting and make it a good showing next week.
And remember if you can’t fix it with a hammer, its probably an electrical problem.
