We had 15 guys brave the wind and colder temps to kick off the 2016 disc golf season at City Park DGC. It was getting a bit dark on the last couple of holes; next time I will have fewer guys on each card.....my hands were getting cold writing out the cards! Adam Sanford continues to have the hot hand (from last weekend) and took home the CTP on hole #5. Thank you to Lucas Krupp for upgrading the $15 CTP disc. Despite the cold everyone was having a good time and there was no shortage of congratulations on good throws and putts....as well as some trash talking. Overall the course is in great shape. Hope to see more disc golfers come out of hibernation for next Wednesday.

Congratulations to our top 3 finishers: 1st place, Adam Sanford/Geoff Smart (45/-9); 2nd place, Paul Brooks/Paul Vandeburg (47/-7); and 3rd place (tie), Ryan Wille/Eric Willman and Tom Wojdyla/ "Cali" no partner (48/-6). Adam Sanford won the CTP on hole #1--a Dynamic Discs Truth, donated by Bud DePetro. Paul Brooks won the CTP on hole #4--a City Park DGC t-shirt. Geoff Smart won the "garage sale" CTP on hole #1; a garage-sale CTP consists of donated prizes from all of the players. Eric Willman won the CTP on hole #13--a Big Z Mantis, donated by Jon Maenpaa. Jon Maenpaa won the "garage sale" CTP on hole #3. A garage-sale CTP consists of donated prizes from all of the players; I copied Tom Mannebach's (Smokin' Chains DGC) idea of his "garbage CTP". Hole #8 CTP winner was Brian Kreuscher; Hole #17 CTP winner was Jonathan Manderfield; and Hole #12 long putt winner was Paul Vanderburg. CTP discs were donated by Kevin Gillhespy and City Park DGC; and the long putt disc was donated by Steven Jacques. The American Legion also donated bottle openers for 2nd place finishers (Ryan Vincent, Paul Vandeburg, and Kevin Gillhespy). Thank you to everyone who showed up and to the above prize sponsors! Tomorrows doubles league, 8/26/15, will be our last Wednesday at 5 pm CST due to decreasing light (Sunset will be 7:44 CST).....sunset comes about 15 minutes earlier every week this time of year. Had great weather and another great turnout....Thank you to the guys that came over from Marquette and Escanaba!....Marquette players: Nathan Frischkorn, Kevin Gillhespy, and Jake Nease...and Escanaba/Gladstone players: Logan Lark, Tom Mannebach, Josh Nance, and Austin Neveau. We had great scores again and every team shot under par (54). Our CTP winners were: Derrek White (1st), Steve Jacques (2nd), Paul Vandeburg (3rd), and Tom Wojdyla (4th). Josh Nance and Smokin' Chains Disc Golf Club (Pioneer Trail Park DGC)donated $10 and City Park Disc Golf Club donated a DisCraft Crystal Flex Buzzz with course/club hotstamp...thanks guys! The carryover CTP (from last week) of $19 was used to purchase an Innova Destroyer and Beast.. Thank you to everyone who showed up to play and see ya next Wednesday at 5 pm CST. Future CTP's will be located at random holes during doubles league; not after completion of league...trying to finish sooner and get travelers home earlier!

Another fun time playing our random doubles league.....every doubles team played par or better. Great to see Tom "Mountain Man" Wincse show up and play....and tie for first with his partner Lucas Krupp...their team tied Brian Kreuscher and Mr. Greg Rogers at -9. Great job guys! Thank you to Lucas Krupp for donating a mini disc and to Eric Willman for donating a koozie for CTP prizes...2 putters were also given out as CTP prizes. CTP winners were Mike Fende, 1st place; Greg Rogers, 2nd place; and Kody DesMarais, winning both 3rd and 4th place. Steve Jacques donated a disc and a mini at last weeks league....Thanks Steve!

This year we have initiated a more balanced doubles selection process to prevent the pairing of novice players; for example, if we have 5 novice players the first five randomly selected players --from the non-novice pool-- will be paired with novice players. Also, to further encourage novice players, we have novice-only CTP's, in addition to our normal CTP's....and we generally provide more CTP prizes to our novice players.

I will probably employ the "Ryan Wille Rule".....since Ryan has claimed LP (longest putt) and CTP's, the last 2 leagues, I will promote him to intermediate for the next Wed. Doubles, May 13th. Ryan will then return to novice status on the 20th. This "GM" move will allow other novice players to compete for the top spot while Ryan in temporary "promotion status. I think this is a good news--good news scenario. I will need to clear this with Ryan's agent though.....

Once again there were no aces (Ace Pool remains at $100), but there must have been some good tee shots and putts with all of the birdies that were carded....good shootin' guys!

A CTP disc was donated by Eric Willman, and the Vape Escape (Disc Golf Sales) donated a mini and a scorecard for the 2 CTP's for novice players. Thank you!!

Once again, "novice" player Ryan Wille claimed the CTP disc, as well as best CTP throw for a novice player. Great job Ryan! Nate Gerhard had the 2nd best throw, and also did a outstanding job! Hope to see everybody out next Wednesday, May 13th.

Closest-To-Pin discs were donated by Vape Escape (Iron Mtn., disc golf sales) and Smokin' Chains Sunday Doubles League at PTP (Escanaba, 1:00 pm EST). Longest Putt (on hole 12) disc was donated by Menominee Range Gliders. Best-showing of a novice player disc was donated by Eric Willman. THANK YOU!!!!....
