If I am interpreting your question correctly, you are wondering how someone that played in the event on the shorter layout would have a better tag than someone who played longs despite the person playing longs having a better score than the player on the shorts.

Eric can verify for sure because he runs this, but I believe the answer to your question lies in who competed on the specific layout. All players playing on the longer layout were playing for the tags that came into that pool to start the day. That is the same as the players in the shorter layout. You are only eligible to win the tags that were in your pool at the start of the event.

For example: If 5 people were playing each layout and the incoming players for the long layout brought in tags 5, 15, 18, 100, and 167, those would be the 5 tags they are competing for. The short division could have brought in 75, 86, 94, 97, and 99 so even the worst scoring player in the short tees would leave with a better tag than two of the players in the long pool.

Based on 2025 final standings. Everyone that had joined by 1/1 was properly seeded based on last year's results. Anyone joining after 1/1 receives the next available tag. This year 3 reseedings will take place on 3/31, 6/30, & 8/31 (or right before match play starts). Unlike last year, if you haven't played since the last reseeding you will be moved down though keeping your relative position with those that also move down.
