Summer handicap league is a wrap! Thanks to the 12 people that came out and played at Heritage Park on Thursday. In a separate post I will cover more of the final results, but I do want to congratulate Garris Waynick on being the 2025 Summer Champion and winning the lone bid our club has to the Michigan Amateur State Championship!

CTP's
2 - Jacob Conklin the lefty took the CTP from Blake who somehow had it while taking a double bogey on the hole earlier in the round.
6 - Blake Hohlbein won with a RHFH Dynamic Discs Justice
14 - Gannon Waynick threw a beautiful backhand for the win!
17 - Ryan Sieler almost aced it and stayed parked for the CTP!

HOT ROUND & TRUE GRIT
After starting +2 through the first 4 holes, Blake was able to battle back and shoot -10 for the round as he birdied 12 of his last 14 holes. Wow!????

Bob Mayes birdied 5 holes in a row (10-14)!

Also shout out to Bob Mayes for finishing strong and finishing 1st the last 2 weeks in a row, smashing his handicap average both times!

Ashton Platt recently bought a Discmania Tilt and it immediately paid off with an EAGLE on hole 16! Nice work, Ashton!!

Blake also eagled 16 with a roller with his Axiom Thrill.
Garris Waynick got the eagle 3 on hole 17!
Blake Hohlbein also eagled hole 10 with a Discmania DD3 RHFH to circle one and made the putt!

STREAKS
Garris Waynick had a four hole stretch where he was -5! Holes 14-17 with the eagle on 17.
Aaron William Platt got 4 in a row (1-4) and had a turkey on 13-15.
Jacob Conklin joined us for the first time this year and showed out with an impressive -10 round and had a stretch of 5 birdies in a row - holes 4-8! Nice shooting, Jacob!
Blake Hohlbein had a stretch of 4 straight birdies - 1-4 and a three hole stretch where he was -4 - holes 9-11 with the eagle on 10.
Bob Mayes had 3 turkeys! Holes 1-3, 5-7, and 9-11! The most non stacked turkeys you can possibly achieve in a round is 4 so this is quite the feat!

Every hole was birdied and every hole was bogeyed.

This week went great (7/3/2025)! We were at Heritage Park and as we were getting ready to start it looked like we were going to get some rain dumped on us but we dodged it!

There were a couple of issues with the UDisc scorecards because a couple holes were set up incorrectly. I went back in and reentered all the scores with the updated pars. There was only one change in terms of how the points worked out with the handicaps and that was James Yoder's handicap was adjusted and thus he moved up one spot into a three way tie for 4th.

Challenges
CTP 4 - Blake Hohlbein took James Yoder's CTP but Blake hooked up James with a glow Dynamic Discs Escape!
CTP 10 - Ashton Platt took home a sick green MVP Neutron Nitro!
CTP 14 - Blake Hohlbein put it literally 1 inch from the pole. Crazy good CTP.
CTP 17 - Bullet Bob Mayes took home a sweet MDGO Zone!

Notable Happenings
Bob Mayes and Blake Hohlbein both had stretches of 6 straight birdies! Bob got 12-17 and Blake got 14-1 (started on hole 10).

There were no star frames on the night. ????

The course was playing pretty long as almost every hole was in the longest position possible. We played holes 7, 13, 15, 16, & 18 as par 4's for a total course par of 59.

Nobody got a birdie on 7 or 9.
Garris Waynick was the only person to birdie hole 2 & hole 3.
Blake Hohlbein was the only person to birdie hole 4.

Hole 16 played the easiest at -0.44 under par as a par 4.
Holes 11, 17, and 18 all played -0.22 under par.
Hole 5 played the hardest at +0.89 over par. Interesting how hole 5 at The Scope also plays very hard.
Hole 7 played the second hardest at +0.78 over par as a par 4. If you call this hole a par 3... I shake my head at you. lol
Hole 9 played +0.67 over par. Keep these holes in mind next time you are at Heritage. If you play these holes for par you are usually picking up strokes on the field!

Blake Hohlbein had 2 eagles! One on 7 and one on 11! He missed a putt for eagle on 16 from about 30ft as well. Blake takes the $8 but is giving it back to roll over to next week!

Notable Happenings
HUGE shout out to Gannon Waynick for shooting his FIRST ROUND UNDER PAR at The Scope! This is an awesome accomplishment! He shot -2 with 4 birdies and 2 bogeys! Keep up the great work, Gannon!

Tyler Chatell had one of, if not, the best round of his to date! He had a stretch of 8 pars in a row! Keep up the good work, Ty!

Garris Waynick had a 108ft throw in on hole 17 for eagle! A shot well worth the winnings! He won $22 and the pot is now back to $0.

Notable Happenings
Nobody birdied hole 1, 2, 3, 13, 15, or 16 - that is 1/3 of the courses holes that went unbirdied!

What I find interesting about Heritage vs The Scope is that at Heritage you have a much better shot at shooting a round closer to par on both sides. By that I mean that if you are over par, you likely aren't shooting double digits over par, but if you are under par, you are likely not able to shoot double digits under par. Essentially, The Scope has more holes with scoring separation, meaning someone could get a 2 on a hole at The Scope and someone else could take a 6 on the same hole (hole 16 is a prime example). Those kinds of holes just don't exist at Heritage because there isn't much OB.

Bob had an interesting sandwich on his scorecard. He had a double bogey on 3 and 9 but birdied all the holes in between. Technically Bob started on hole 7 so it didn't really happen that way, but it is fun to look at in a way.

HOT STARTS
Bob was -2 through 2 and Michael was -2 through 3 holes.

Blake was the only player to go bogey-free, though it should be noted Liam E Foreman and Michael Pirkle were close, only taking 1 bogey, Liam's coming on his first hole of the night.

Bob had the only birdie on hole 5.
Blake had the only birdie on hole 9 which was in the long position. He threw a beautiful forehand roller with his red Axiom Thrill which landed in the bullseye.
Liam & Ryan Sieler were the only players to birdie hole 10.
Blake & Pirkle were the only players to birdie hole 12. Blake birdied with a 75ft putt from the weeds.

8 holes played under par and 10 played over par for the field.
Hole 17 played the easiest at over half the field getting the birdie.
Over half the field also got the birdie on 14 in the far left position, but there was one bogey on it.
Hole 3 (The Hill) played the hardest, averaging +0.69 throws over par. Holes 1 & 13 were not far behind, averaging +0.62 throws over par for the field.

Notable Happenings
It was interesting to see how UDisc translated handicaps from scores at The Scope to Heritage (based on course ratings). Speaking personally, my handicap at The Scope is about +7 and at Heritage it had me with a +4. Also, judging by the fact that everyone except 1 person shot at or below their handicap for the night, I think UDisc has some work to do on their ratings because clearly Heritage isn't as hard as The Scope. This is interesting because I have always thought Heritage - White was harder than The Scope - White. Having 2 people shoot double digits below par with the handicap adjustment is absurd. I don't think we will see anyone for the rest of the league shoot double digits under par with the handicap adjustment.

STAR FRAME
Victor, Ryan, Blake, and Matthew all birdied hole 14. There may have been a foot fault by someone. We may never know. ????

PAR TRAIN
Bob Mayes started his round with 10 straight pars. Wow!

46 total birdies on the night by the field of 11. That's 9 less birdies (or better) than last week at The Scope!

Nobody shot bogey free, but Douglas J. Stoos and Bob Mayes were the closest, each only taking 1 bogey.

Special shout out to Johnny Lawrence for getting his first ever birdies on hole 1 and then an amazing forehand roller and amazing putt on 5 for birdie!

Hole 3 played the hardest at .91 over par. I'd advise playing that hole far par for most everyone! Play out to the left and give yourself a shot into the pin when it is in that long pin position.
Hole 9 played. .73 over par. That low ceiling is killer! Time for everyone to learn the roller!
Hole 11 and 14 tied for playing the easiest, both at almost a half throw under par, meaning nearly half the field birdied it. Actually, over half the field in fact birdied hole 14.
4 holes played Even par for the field which is pretty interesting! Holes 4, 6, 8, and 10.

Liam E Foreman had an incredible 11 birdies on the night! He had two stretches of 4 straight birdies (2-5 & 11-14) and was the only person to birdie 8 and 14 - tough gets! Great shooting, Liam!

NO EAGLES

Hole 18 (par 4) played as the hardest hole tonight, averaging exactly +1.00 over par and was the only hole not birdied on the night.
Hole 7 (par 4) played the easiest at -0.45 under par.
Hole 2 (par 3) played exactly Even par for the field.

The true scoring for first place ended in a 3 way tie between Liam, Matt, and Blake. Liam and Blake bogeyed their last holes (18 and 16 respectively) and Matt clutched up and got the birdie on 16 for everyone to tie at -7. For the pride of nightly true scoring champ the 3 gentlemen had a sudden death play off. On hole 1 Blake took the only birdie and became outright true scoring champ of the night. Then Matt and Liam continued to play off for second. They pushed pars on hole 2 and then went to hole 9 where Matt went OB off the tee first. Liam put a nice bomb of a drive in bounds and pitched up to the basket and in for second.

This is very impressive. I doubt we will have another time where over half of the handicapped field will shoot better than their handicap. Shout out to Garris (9 better), Blake (7 better), Liam (6 better), Isaac (3 better), Matthew (2 better), and Bob (2 better).
