Actually, warming up on hole 1 is not that bad, as long as you're cognizant of players coming up to hole 1 or hole 10's tee. That didn't happen on Thursday. I felt really bad about the 2 guys in front of me just leaving because they couldn't tee off on 10. Maybe they play every day and it was no big deal, but maybe they were looking forward to that round all week. I don't know; they were not pros. And I think that made the community a little worse that they felt they had to walk off the course. You say that all they had to do was ask to play through, but not everyone knows that.
But the bigger issue for me personally was the guy out there hopping tee pads to throw practice shots on holes other than hole 1. I was waiting on every tee on the back 9. I finish hole 15, head to 16's tee, the group in front of me is still in the middle of the fairway, but now there's a guy that's come out of nowhere standing on the teepad. Does he ask me if he can throw some practice shots with me as I play the hole? No. He doesn't say dick. I think he was hoping I would let him throw his practice shots and go pick them up or whatever while I wait. So now, 15 holes into my round, I gotta talk to this guy and convince HIM to let me throw, when I should be next off the pad. That is some bullshit. But whatever. I'm just doing a solo round. I live around the corner. It's probably not a huge imposition if he's not so goddamn entitled about it.
Nobody on earth is going to be angry about people hopping tee pads, if you can fit in. But, like I said, I was waiting on every tee on the back. Rude.
I had to wait on the same guy (I think) the week before on 18. I'm finishing 17 and I see him walk by me to 18's pad. I get to 18's tee, and I have to wait and watch him zigzag the fairway, picking up the multiple practice shots he threw. Rude.
All of this is happening, by the way, as I'm trying to finish up my round before 6:00 to get out of the way for you guys.
Fast forward to hole 18 this week. I'm getting ready to throw my upshot, and the same guy is walking toward me engaging me in conversation. He realizes that I'm taking my shot seriously and clams up to let me throw, but before my upshot has hit the ground, he fires two practice shots at the basket I'm playing to. If you don't think that's distracting and disrespectful Gary, I'll follow you around for your next round and fire practice shots at the basket you're playing to. Rude.
I was hoping to get some engagement from the dudes that run the league, and I have not gotten that. I would hope that, even if they don't agree with my complaints, they would have a more pragmatic response than yours Gary. You guys have this league at a public park, and you should be respectful of the other patrons that have the same right to use the park as you.
As a disappointed member of the community. I will leave it there for the moment.
