Four reasons for this: 1) It ruins the intent of the hole. This is supposed to be a right turning two shot hole. Not a throw it over the OB wherever you want and then have a little pitch up. This returns the hole to the original intent. 2) This should fix course flow issues. With holes 4 and 5 playing as par 3s, groups tend to play those holes quickly and back up on hole 6. Without the mandatory, most groups need to wait for the green to clear before throwing which causes a backup on the hole. Additionally, groups have to look for discs when thrown long, confirm a disc is OB before walking back to where it was last in bounds, and go all the way back to the tee if a disc is lost, all causing backups. With the mando in place, groups should be able to tee while the group ahead is putting and move the round along. 3) With so many people throwing over the OB and landing in the OB, the brush has gotten beaten down quite a bit. It would be nice to let that grow back up. Maybe it will grow enough that the mando isn't needed and it will be a riskier shot. 4) I like hearing people complain.

Thanks for sharing the reasoning, I especially like #4! One question. Are there plans to shrink or remove the OB "pond" now that you don't need it to discourage the shortcut line? The OB is really tight to the right side of the fairway after the bend, and tree deflections into this space feel especially punitive. Also, 6 is the only hole on the course with an unnatural OB (water, road, cliff). Thanks!

In the League’s “About” section it states that if 4 or more players are interested, new divisions may be offered. I’m curious if anyone other than myself would be interested in playing in an MA4 division. MA4 qualifications are all ages and a rating of <850.

You will need to find your own group, especially if you are teeing off early. I generally get there about 4:30 or 4:45 to make sure that everyone has a group, but if you are teeing earlier, you will need to pull together people. PDGA rules require you to play in a minimum group of 3, so posting here and trying to get a group is the best way to tee off early.
