2022 Kenny Park SUMMER League Information
Please read this document. You are responsible for the content as there will be no official players meeting.
First, if you haven’t paid me, you need to do that. No pay. No play. The $20 fee covers the entire league season.
Look for me in the parking lot nearest the bathrooms and pavilion (west of hole 18) in a black Hyundai Santa Fe. Cash is preferred but I will also accept PayPal: [email redacted].
If you are paid, please check-in with me the first week. If you arrive before me, check in via phone or text: 574.849.3038.
Traditionally, players tee off some time between 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. You may start before or after that time. Once you’ve checked in and have your group (minimum of 3 but not more than 5 players per card) you may start your round. We are not the only ones at Kenney Park. Be sure to exercise caution toward others using the park. Never throw a disc if there’s a chance someone could come in contact with it.
Can I play with my friends each week?
Absolutely. That’s why we’re doing this. You may play in a group of 3-5 players regardless of division. When possible, please keep the groups to a maximum of four as fivesomes can really slow down play. Keep in mind that we have over 60 players signed up for the league. Spread out to start your round so you don’t end up having to wait on a hole when there are open holes on the course.
How do we keep score?
We will be using PDGA live scoring.
Go here:
https://www.pdga.com/apps/tournament/score/login
Access code: kpsl22
Type in your PDGA number or name.
Add any players to your card.
Choose your starting hole.
Click on “Begin Play” and away you go!
At least one player in your group should have a smart device (most likely a cell phone) to keep score using the PDGA platform. There will also be paper scorecards available. You may also use UDisc as a back up scorecard or have two or more players keep score on PDGA live scoring.
How do I win? Are there prizes?
The overall standings for each division will be calculated using your top six scoring weeks from the available eight weeks of play. Each player will receive three points for weekly participation and one point for each player within their division they beat (including ties). At the end of the season we will declare champions for each division.
The top 40% of each division will be paid out in the form of merchandise vouchers to be used at the Michiana Pro Shop disc golf fly mart that will be set up at Kenney Park on the final night of league play.
What if it rains?
We will play in all types of weather. Should there be dangerous conditions like tornados, lightning, earthquakes, etc. we will suspend play until it’s safe. Keep up to date on all league news at the Kenney Park Spring League page at discgolfscene.com.
This league is PDGA-sanctioned, so what?
Great question. First off, you don’t need to be a member of the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) to play. However, you are welcome to join before, during or immediately after the conclusion of league play. Sanctioning means a few things:
PDGA members will receive PDGA points toward their qualification for the 2023 PDGA World Championships.
New PDGA members will receive a player rating. Those with a player rating will have their rating adjusted based on their league play.
We will follow the PDGA Official Rules of Disc Golf and the Disc Golfer's Code.
We will observe the COVID-19 PDGA Requirements and Best Practices.
You must mark your lie (where your disc lands after a throw) before taking your next throw and you must have at least one supporting point (foot or knee) behind and within (20cm x 30cm) of the mark while other support points are behind the mark as well. You may use your previously thrown disc or a mini marker. Place the mini in front of the previously thrown disc before picking up the disc. If you don’t have a mini I will have a limited supply for sale.
Observe all mandatories. Mandatories are indicated by the small, white, square-shaped signs with arrows that indicate the required flight path of the disc. Look for them on hole 1 (double mando), hole 3, 7, 11 (double mando), 13 and hole 16 (one new mando on telephone poll, second mando has been removed).
A double mando indicates that the disc must pass between both markers. Should you miss a mandatory you will pick up your throw and move to the “drop zone” for your next throw. All mandatories will have a well-defined “drop zone” drawn out in orange paint. You will add one penalty throw to your hole score for each mandatory missed. Your goal is to “not miss” the mandatory. Your disc “misses” the mando if it breaks the plane (orange line painted on the ground). If you hit the tree and miss the mando you are good. Should you have questions or need clarification please talk to me before your round.
Know where the out-of-bounds lines are on the course.
Any disc that leaves park property is out of bounds. Holes 1, 3, 4, 13 and 14 share a boundary with private property. Anywhere there are painted lines (1&3), the line is considered out of bounds. If your disc is touching the while line and does not touch any grass (grass growing out over the OB line is still considered OB) it is considered out of bounds. The same goes for curbs. All curbs are out of bounds. You may most likely encounter them on holes 6-8. If you disc is laying up against the curb and not touching grass it is considered out of bounds.
In or over all park roads, the walking track (two exceptions talked about later), sidewalks, and parking lots are out of bounds. The ball field, basketball court, sand volleyball court, gaga ball court, splash pad, lined football or soccer fields, in or on the pavilions, the bathrooms or any other structure are out of bounds. There is no relief from playground equipment near hole 7, 9 and 10. Play it where it lies.
The walking path is out of bounds if you land on it or cross over it with the exception of holes 3 and 16 (past the mando) wherein your disc is only considered out of bounds if it comes to rest on or over the path.
Retrieve an out of bounds disc from the place nearest where it went out and mark it up to one meter in bounds from that point. You will receive one penalty throw added to your hole score for each disc that lands out of bounds. NOTE: If a throw misses the mando AND goes out of bounds you will take the penalty that occurred first. You cannot be penalized twice on one throw.
When putting at the basket from within 10 meters you must demonstrate balance and control of your body (no falling forward or stepping through the putt) until the disc comes to rest either in the basket or on the ground. If this infraction is called by a player and witnessed by another, a one-stroke penalty will be added to your hole score.
No gimmies. You must finish the hole by releasing the disc into the basket (No slapping the chains or basket with the disc in your hand). Failure to complete a hole will result in one stroke being added to your total throws for that hole PLUS a two-stroke penalty added to your hole score.
