8 folks came out to the final week of the league at Peter's Creek - I apparently lied about it being dry, but it wasn't a total washout.

I took down A Pool with a bogey-free 10 under, my PR at PC, and my second 1000-rated round in the last three (sandwiching an 850-rated round). Joseph Lor grabbed sole second, only taking one bogey on the round, and picked up a dramatic two-stroke swing on hole 18.

Frank Costales won his league debut, taking home the win with a birdie on his final hole. Kristin grabbed second, missing first by one stroke with a double bogey on said final hole! Oh, the agony of defeat! She was the only one to birdie hole 6, though!

Great leagues this summer despite the rain, and we'll be back after the fall tournaments wind down for winter leagues, probably in mid-November. The two winter courses are typically Westchester Lagoon and Davis Park, but if the snow is late to come, we might throw Kincaid or PC in there as well. We'll be starting with an $80 ace pot!

Also, if you've been paying $11 for league entries and you plan on playing this winter (or next summer), I believe ADGA allows you to grab a membership in October and have it count for all of 2023 - there are 40 planned weeks of singles league, and a whole winter and summer's worth of doubles, too. Pays for itself in just 16 visits! (Actually it's 14, or 10 if you're a renewing member)

12 folks came out to Alcantra in the warmup for the Rally in the Valley this weekend. The staggered tee times worked well, but also the round went really fast anyways, so I think we'll just do a regular 6:30 start at PC next week. It'll be the last singles round of the summer! (Winter leagues will probably start in mid-late November)

Brian Cassidy and I tied for first in A Pool with 8 under - both bogey-free. Morgan Leeds and Eli Allen BOTH beat us with a 9 under, in B Pool. All four of us nabbed hole 14, which I personally consider the hardest on the course to birdie, maybe other than 4. Somehow across the field there were more birdies on 14 than on 15, which I consider the EASIEST.

Again, next week is PC - last singles of the summer! SAD FACE

Tournament manager won't let me do a hybrid system, so if your tee time is 6:00 or 6:15 or 6:30, you're starting on hole 1, and if your tee time is at 5:59 or 6:14 or 6:29, you're starting on hole 12. We'll see if Tournament Manager lets you edit the starting hole, but that's the system for now.

First off, sorry I forgot to do the payouts for week 8 - they're out now.

Second - sign up for week 9, Alcan, now! I'm doing modified tee times today, for the daylight. Tentatively I'm going to send groups out at 6:00, 6:15, and 6:30, on holes 1 and 12 (12 because that's where the parking lot spits you). When you sign up this week, let me know which tee time you prefer. We could also do a 6:45 tee time if people are going to have trouble getting out to the Valley but still want to play, but you might be finishing in the dark.

FYI unless things have changed since yesterday, 4 and 7 are in the longs, 6 is straight, and 14 is on the right.

Surprisingly low turnout for the ONLY time it's been sunny in like a month, but 10 folks came out to enjoy the course and the temporary reprieve.

Jake Haskin took down both A Pool and the ace pot, bagging hole 6 - as someone who's somehow managed to throw like half of his aces on blind holes, I'm jealous - it must have looked so cool just gliding 320 feet down that hill and into the chains.

Joseph Lor enjoyed his last round in B pool (for now!) with a one stroke win over Mike B. You've shot 3 rounds in leagues averaging over 900, so welcome to A pool, Joseph!

Next week we'll be back at Davis, and then week 9 is going to be up at Alcan!

Time to sign up! Looks like we're going to see a break from the rain just in time for this week's league, so get out there while the gettin's good.

Week 9 will probably be at Alcantra, to prepare for Rally In The Valley. I'm thinking of doing some strange version of tee times so people can start early and we can make sure everyone/most people are not finishing in the dark. Yes, we're getting to that point in the year.

Sorry about the delay, just got payments out. Week 6 was a fun new adventure out at Whispering Doakes! Great turnout despite being out in the Valley, for the first ever rated round out there. Lots of fun shots on that course - I look forward to the next round of either leagues or a full-on tournament!

Joe Schacht schacht pretty low, to grab A pool by 5 strokes - also a 1006-rated round! Dan nudged out a few other really really really awesome players to take 2nd place all by himself.

Murphy Dykstra almost matched Joe, with a red-hot 46 to take down B pool, also by 5 strokes. Morgan grabbed second place with a 51 - I predict you guys will be in A Pool pretty soon!

A cool thing I discovered by accident - for some reason DGScene temporarily uploaded a weird layout to the PDGA site, putting Whispering Doakes at 30 holes, par 90. And when it did that, for some reason everyone's rating went up by about 50 points. I'd always been led to believe that it's all about how the propagators play the course on a given day, but apparently par is not totally irrelevant. I tend to hear a lot of the same people making two different claims: that Alaska is disadvantaged in the ratings system, AND that insanely difficult holes that people rarely ever birdie are par 3s. Maybe if we were a little more liberal with our pars, we could nudge our ratings up a point here and there.

Tomorrow is at Peter's Creek - doesn't look like a total washout, and those trees do a good job of blocking rain anyways. Let's smack some birches around!

Hope to see plenty of people out there, but especially it would be great if the Valley players come on out - personally I might not drive an hour into Anchorage on a weeknight for one round of disc golf, but having these leagues in Palmer makes it a little easier.

I've posted Tom's sketch of the layout in "photos" - I've never played the course before so I'll be following along with everyone else. I'm going to try and put one person on each card who has played the course.

It's the first of two special weeks, this one at Kincaid to give a little preview of the tournament coming up next weekend. We'll be playing the am (shorter) tees to the Yellow (shorter) baskets - hopefully that'll have us finishing at a reasonable time and without too many lost discs. I can't think of any OB off the top of my head but if Chad or anyone who knows reads this, it'll be whatever the rules are for next weekend.

After an erudite, respectful single-card league week at PC in week 2, we returned to our wild and crazy Alaska disc golf with 16 players out for week 3. No aces, so the pot is back up over $50!

I took down A Pool with a very lucky -7 47. I had about three times where my discs crawled through a river of shit and came out clean and parked on the other side. I call it the Shot Shank Redemption. Brian Walker II, who I just learned has a PDGA number and also is absolutely an A Pool-level player, grabbed second with a 48, only taking one bogey. Shout out to Brian Cassidy in 3rd who was the only bogey-free player.

Jeremy Boyd grabbed B Pool with a 50 - at one point he bagged 7 birdies in 8 holes!

Good luck to everyone playing PC this weekend - I'm rooting for all the league regulars to crush it; no better tournament practice than sanctioned singles! We'll be back at Davis next week!

A scary radar kept a lot of people away from leagues this week, but the rain was mostly light and even went away at one point, for a perfectly enjoyable evening out at PC.

I took down A pool by only taking one bogey all round, for a 49. Rod and Dan tied for second with 53s.

Murphy Dykstra grabbed B Pool with a 51, taking 4 bogey-plus, and 2 birdies in his first six holes, but then shooting a clean -6 over his final 12 to nudge out Morgan.

We'll be out at PC again next week, getting our practice rounds in for Jailhouse Roc!

Week 1 of the league had a relatively meager turnout - it seems like this is always true, which is weird because I sort of see this as week 11 of the 20-week summer league. But 13 folks turned out to face what I hear is the resurgent homeless camps on hole 7.

Jarod annihilated the course and took down A-pool with a 48, shooting a bogey-free 4 down on both the Reds and the Blues. Only 987-rated for now but I wouldn't be surprised if that sneaks up closer to 1000 by the time the league gets submitted. Cassidy nearly kept up to grab second with a 50, despite 3 bogeys! Also like to note graduations - welcome to A Pool, finally, Rod Stepp!

Rob Johnson nudged out a bunch of newbies (some of whom might belong in A Pool, tbh, but we're withholding judgment pending more evidence) by one stroke with a -2 54, grabbing birdies on the easier holes, and taking his two bogeys on the toughest par-3s on the course. A sensible round and one worthy of keeping the bag tags from Morgan.

Hope to actually be present for next week's PC round - both weeks 2 and 3 will be at PC; week 3 will be a repeat because of Jailhouse Roc that following weekend.

Note on a minor change: I've been paying out too many places in the past leagues I've run - so I'm going to go to the PDGA 40% pay table. This should make it more worthwhile to actually win the league, but a couple fewer folks will be finishing in the cash each week.

As of now, we'll be starting at Davis Week 1, then Peter's Creek for both Weeks 2 and 3, and then alternating between Davis and PC the rest of the year. This is so we can have our last league week be Davis, and also have PC be the week before Jailhouse Roc. The last week will also likely start at 6 rather than 6:30, due to daylight concerns.
