This is one of the better courses I have played in Eastern OH. One of the primary factors I'm looking for on any course is the view and this one doesn't disappoint. It's a gorgeous state park on a lake. The walk is almost entirely wooded, in nicely shaded forest land, featuring plenty of views of the lake and a creek. I don't know if we got lucky the day we were there, but this place was exploding with mushrooms of all varieties.
The course has really nice amenities. There were benches everywhere. They had tee signs that included bag hooks on each one, which was a nice feature. I liked the between hole signage and never had trouble finding my next tee. They only have one set of tees, but they are concrete.
The course itself is a fun challenging woods course that will make you throw good lines without ever feeling unfairly punishing. There are clear lanes to everything. I like the greens that they have set up, as well. They used the natural features to make some cool pensinsula greens, creek-backed and several with a few guardian trees, that all make for more interesting golf.
If I have knocks it is it did feel like the course was forehand heavy. Maybe that's just me. The hole designs did start to feel similar until you get to the final 5 or 6 that are memorable.
You could also use one more bridge across that creek, but all in all this is well worth a drive.
