Im shocked to see this course at an A-. Let's put it this way: I live a half mile away, inplay 3-4x a week, and i avoid Lyon's Den at all cost. The ground is always soaked (poor drainage). It's always windy. It's a really long course and I think it could be time to redefine the holes into a better layout. I know people love this place, but I am not one of them.

This course gets an A+ for putting it on top of an old landfall. After that it's not good. I've never liked courses that are wide open with lots of imitation OB, and this is it. It's well designed for what they had to work with and there are a couple of nice holes. Just not what I feel is disc golf and certainly has about zero of the fun factor that is so important to me. The bombers probably will like it but not for the mortals. Not a fan.

I love this course and would play it everyday if I lived closer. This course is build on a park that's on top of an old dump so you are on the highest elevation for miles around most of the course with gorgeous vistas. The course itself is well maintained and is great for developing distance as its more a distance than technical course. You still want to spot your discs and pick good colours because it's embarrassing to spend 10+ minutes searching essentially an open field for a disc. Also give the course a day or two to dry out after heavy rains. It's not chronically wet but water resistant hikers are a great idea.

Took me a while to get here and play. A year after my buddies had done glow and everything else there. I digress...

The short of it: tons of challenging holes. Open and windy almost every round, but gorgeous and full of fun shots. OB is better used here than the average courses in Michigan IMO. Come with some drives ready to launch. Longs will test you if you dont have a giant arm. Lots of good 3 shot golf.

The long of it:
Ease of access - great. Right off 96 from 2 different exits.
Plus - there is a brewery across the damn road! Ahhhh. Dont drink n drive!
Course conditions - a bit wet overall, but no water hazards per se. Just marsh. Clay cap over a landfill so get over it. Some rough areas, but mostly easy to walk. Some up and downs with a few sketchy spots. Not for those with bad legs or backs but not super tough (similar to Gulch or Kensington). Almost no garbage. Ironic since its on a landfill. lol
Shots and hole layouts - LEGIT! So many challenging throws with perfectly places OB or rough areas. Anny. RHFH opps. Lots of good hyzer spikes. Flip over shots. Short accurate shots on island greens. Man they did this course right. Some fun ace shots, too!
Amenities - mehhhh. One big knock is a lack of cans and tables. You can get a bit wore down out here. Overall a very clean course but the only little bonuses are a practice basket and a nice comm board. Bathrooms at pavilions though from what I hear.
Fun factor - pretty moderate. If you dont like placing your shots but want a wide open course go to Ponds. This is more about accuracy and some touch. Enough big shots for the average person to get the distance bug out of their system.
In the end - one of the best courses around for pure golf. Come on calm days, and youll still get some winds. SUPER SUNNY, so bring sun block. Great views abound. Tons of shot selections and lines make it a course anyone can get in to.

Very fun course to throw. Very open but the trees that are out there are in play for many of the holes. Lots of fun to open the arm up on the big holes. Not much in the variety of shots, most were hyzer either BH or FH with some holes demanding a very straight S flight due to more OB than obstacles. OB is positioned well, can effect both Lh and RH players. Elevation is awesome. Lots of rolling hills, fast greens and gullies that can exaggerate wind effects. Good job Sean.

Fun to play but wide open. Not really for women and beginners because of the long length of holes. Also have an issue with the walking distance to each hole. By the time you play 9 you won't want to play more because of all the walking. Kind of wish more trees were used. Tee pads are bad. It felt like my shoe was slipping everytime I planted my foot. It is a nice course and maybe in a few years it will be even nicer but right now it is mostly for big arms that can throw not for women and beginners.

Great design by Sean, it probably wasn't easy to design a course on land that's pretty wide open. Love the distance on a lot of the holes. The only reason this course isn't getting an A+ for me is because those are saved for championship courses like Toboggan.

Only things that needs work which will be done soon I'm sure is the drive way is a one lane road and the parking lot fills up quick!(Just opened and already getting notoriety!)

The par fours are real par fours that play long with some difficult lines. Elevation change all throughout the course adds to the difficulty of the course. Pads could be a touch longer with some more land behind them for better run ups. I hope over time the course develops a little bit more. Overall the course is amazing, transformed the SL dump to a great disc golf course. Would have gave the course an A- if it was a little tougher, all the little trees planted should grow In a few years which will surely add to the difficulty level.

Played an early round on Grand opening morning. Met Patrick and Shawn who assisted with answering a number of questions and offering some info on the course, thanks for your time fellas! It is simply amazing the volume of acreage the park system afforded to disc golf. Creates serious opportunities in the future, dependent upon how the clubs and park handle it.

Albeit, mature trees are lacking, as at one time the place was a barren waste land..the trees that are present are utilized very well. Many baskets behind or within tree clumps, but in a challenging and fair way. Terrific use of elevation, many ridge lines and valleys.

Also appreciate the 30' rings of buried bricks around each basket, as well as a directional bricks painted white and blue. All directional markers were right on. Orange flags on top of hard to see or hidden baskets were just enough to find them.

Another added element, not frequently employed in the area, are fairway out of bounds traps! Outstanding! Most of the time these traps force the thrower to make a risk/reward assessment prior to deciding on what shot to use. Awesome, would like to see more of these at other courses.

The developers and contributors put an obviously high amount of thought and effort into this course. You can tell the creators are disc golfers, and not politicians. Scorecards were already available. Posted distances seem very accurate. In spring, some of the Low spots should have water, adding additional obstacles, and looks like these are used in a tactical way to boot.

As time passes, and trees grow up in the park, it will only get better. A big arm will do well here, or should. Lots of 400-700+' pokes here. Birdie alley was a welcomed relief for this old guy, lol.

The only factors keeping me from giving an A instead of A- are the lack of trees and the current lacking of an additional set of tees. I suspect both of these factors will happen soon enough, and that for me, the A- will be an A soon enough.
