This is a solid hour drive from home, but I've managed to make it out here 5-6 times over the past few years, including a tournament, so I've played to different basket positions from different tees and gotten a good overall sense of the course, and it is one of my faves.

The course is well marked and maintained but very hilly, so not for anyone with mobility challenges. Lots of variety in holes, uphill, steep downhills, long, short, guarded, tight gaps, plenty of rollaway-potential holes, just a fun mix of different kinds of shots you have to make. Well worth a visit if your a disc golf regular, but probably a little challenging for super-casual players or younger kids.

20 holes, almost all have 3 pads and 2 or 3 baskets (with multiple basket positions for each hole). Great mix of open shots, tight fairways, roller holes, lefty/righty holes, elevation changes, death putts, and Maryland's own "top of the world" shot at Hole 9. Always some wildlife to see. The course is maintained well and has really improved over the past 5 years, started out as just 9 holes! Only minor gripe is that the pads are gravel, but they're shored up well and I can't blame a place for not pouring like 60 concrete pads...

If you haven’t been or tried out Woodsy. You’re missing out on one of the best kept wood courses around. There is a man they call the GOAT, who is always on the mountain keeping the course up to par and improving so much and adding and taking away obstacles... it’s by far the best course for beginners and pros! Multiple tee pads AND multiple BASKETS per hole. Just incredible. (after 1.5 years of playing i consider it my home course now)

The course at Woodsy is far and away one of the most fun to play in the area. New pin positions, updated tee pad locations, new benches with plans for more improvements during the next few months make obsolete any negative reviews that are older than 1 year. You get challenging tee shots long and short. Not simply a driver-putter layout, you will use many different discs throughout your round. You get quite a few uphill and downhill tee shots. If you want a flat course, play somewhere else. If you want a great mix of open and tunnel shots, play here. If you want to close your eyes and throw every drive as far as you are able, go elsewhere. If you want to shape your tee and approach shots around trees and compensate for side hill lies and down hill putts this is your opportunity.

Woodsboro is a unique course with elevation changes on almost every hole. Three (3) tee pads on every hole boxed in by railroad ties with crush (except for holes 1 and 2, concrete pads for these two holes are in the plans for the future) give it an old western feel on each hole with good grip. All tee pads drain extremely well unless you are in a down pour and almost dry immediately. In the winter months with freeze and thaw during the day it may take a little longer to become dry but that should be expected. This course was redesigned in 2015 when 9 additional holes were added to complete the 18. (Two) Disc Catcher baskets on 18 of the 20 holes at this time. Yellow is short and white is long. Currently we have 3 alternate pin placements on 15 holes and 2 on holes 1 and 18, Hole #1 has 1 pin placement however you can use the practice basket near the parking lot as a longer alternative. We will keep installing a few at a time as we can. Fairways are well defined however there are many trees to give you hesitation and really make you think of what line you will take. Creativity is a must when playing this course as you will need a multitude of shots to score well. Several holes have 2 to 3 differing fairways when standing on different tee pads on the same hole. There are possible roll-a-ways at many of the baskets, so be advised to think twice before you putt, as a birdie may turn into a bogey in a heartbeat. Speaking of heartbeats, this course will be an up and down hill hike so be prepared. Beautiful overlooks on a few of the holes will make you pause for a group photo. This park is open until 10:00 pm with no gate to enter or exit. If you are into some “Glow” rounds, this is the perfect place. This course is constantly evolving and has really become a must see in the State of Maryland. The course was created and is maintained by local players with a passion for the game. Our club has some strict restrictions from the town as to what trees can be removed so keep this in mind when you come visit. The course is funded by players and friends only at this time so we can only move so fast. We are currently installing benches on tee pads and plan to continue as we get funds. Just this past year we have added holes 19 and 20 with one basket each, which are located around the skating pond. Please take a look at the videos on YouTube to get a good idea of what to expect. I love many courses but this one is special.

There is elevation change so be ready to hike a bit as well. The course is very well marked; played it without a map. There is some hunting of route; but not bad at all.

Recently revamped course with a good mix of open and wooded holes with elevation mixed in.... Red layout is shorter with a lot of birdie opportunities without being too easy, blue layout is longer and significantly more challenging, and green is the toughest layout that will challenge the most seasoned of golfers.

Tightly Wooded 18 holes with 3 Pads -- Red, Blue, and Green.

Red is short but challenging.
Blue is long and challenging.
And green is long and challenging.

A great mix of wooded and open holes: 1, 2, and 9 are open with guardian trees, the rest are heavily wooded at distances ranging 200-400ft with interesting elevation.

1 Red is an uphill shot of 235', iirc, but it plays about like 350' because of the uphill basket and sloped, natural grass tee. Blue 1 is a monster uphill shot that plays about 400'. Green changes perspective and creates a slanted uphill shot over a sloped gully that is tough to judge.

2 is an open but guarded shot from all tees. Guarded well by an arc of evergreens, the basket is tucked under a maple tree about 200' from red, 280' from blue, and well over 300' from Green. It's another uphill shot, so it plays further than the numbers. Red & Blue are par 3 - Green is a par 4 all with natural grass pads.

3 is a nasty (and short) little dogleg right from Green and Blue, drive your roller through a wall of trees for a shot at birdie, or throw a rh flick/anny or thumber shot down a hallway of trees if you just want to salvage par (no shame...). Red is a straight shot through a wall of trees. Natural grass tees.

4 is a short rh fade shot from Red. Blue is a long fade shot over an aggressive hump coming out of the woods, and Green is a monster par 4 playing uphill and around the corner with an anny or flick. Clear the top of the hill and you'll have a 150' to the basket if you're lucky. All these shots play through a belt of about 6 big trees in the fairway. Red & Blue are par 3 - Green is a par 4. Natural, dirt/wood tee pads.

5 is a heavily wooded dogleg right for all holes. Red is short, but the pin is hard to reach from the pad. Taking a 3 is a solid hole. A hallway of intimidating in your face trees on Blue, and a critical gap from the long Green tee, both requiring a solid lie on the fairway to shoot the pin. Red & Blue are par 3 - Green is a par 4. Natural, dirt/wood tee pads.

6 is a heavily wooded 200-300' shot from Red, Blue, & Green. There is a laser line down the left, and a soft rh hyzer line to the right. It's an ace run from all pads. Natural, dirt/wood tee pads.

7 is also heavily wooded with 3 completely different shots from each pad. Red and Green are higher and have a nice rh anny line, and Blue sports both a hyzer and anny line. It's a long, wooded hole to a fast, downhill green. Natural, dirt/wood tee pads.

8 is an interesting one... It's reversible. Playing downhill, a sweet rh hyzer route from Red and Blue to a raised basket and plays uphill from Green to an additional basket. The uphill shot is a rh anny/flick that needs to land on the ridge to have a good look at the basket for 3. Red & Blue are par 3 - Green is a par 4. Natural, dirt/wood tee pads.

9 is a signature hole. At the top of a hill with a view, 9 is a big hyzer shot from Red and Blue. Red is putter to soft midrange, Blue is a solid midrange, and Green is a monster, 500' shot that is pretty epic. There are three routes from Green, a huge hyzer around a huge sycamore tree, or a sharp fading laser under the tree, and a lower outside hyzer line to the right of the tree. Natural, dirt/wood tee pads.

There are 9 more holes going in right now. Great course. Can't wait to see it develop.

UPDATE: 05.11.16 --
The new 9 are in and they're pretty intense. Super tight as the foliage comes into season.
10-14 play on the side of the mountain, tightly wooded with several lines but no fairway, these holes are super tough in the Blue & Green positions, and challenging shorties from Red.

15-18 play on top of the mountain and down hill back to the lot. Tight challenging lines and/or must hit skinny fairways on top and some fun elevation shots on the way back down.

The entire back nine is, at this point, rather rough. The FredRockers are really working hard getting the course together, and it should beat in and well cleaned out in no time.

As of late 2015 there is now a full 18 holes! I have played all around the US and this is by far one of my favorite course. Very challenging, heavy woods, great elevation, and will soon have 3 tee pads for each hole!

Locals will say the course is wide open now, too many trees have been cut. But the out of towners complain about poke and hope holes. The fact of the matter is that there IS a line on every hole. If you don't hit it then it's your own fault. Try Heritage, or Middletown, if the trees are bothering you too much

First time playing this course on 12/28/09 with Jen. The ground was covered with frozen snow & about 15-20 degrees. Since then, I've played at this course a bit more often. I don't mind the natural tees, but it would be nice to have concrete teepads since it can get slippery when it's wet. Most of the baskets are strategically placed, so it's a big plus. Not as wide open as 2 other Frederick, MD area courses (Heritage Farm & Middletown Park.) Most of the time I'll play twice around this course, first from the shorts, then 2nd time around from the long blue tees.

Currently, they now have permanent restrooms...unlike a single old port-a-john that has been around for a while. #1 & #2's Tees and baskets will be changed soon due to new soccer field construction. Also there's ongoing talk about this park wanting to add a back 9, which would be an excellent addition!
