The absolutely best course in portage County if you played it before 2020 I would suggest that you come back out and play it now completely different course from what it was. Scott’s put a lot of work out there. Even added three new holes A,B and C there are short concrete tee pads. The long tee pads for the new holes are coming soon. Alot of new signage has been added. Fairways have been worked. Lastly, if you see The Grassman out there thank him for his hard work and dedication to that course

I love this course. I recently discovered it and the course is beautiful. The course is pretty challenging as most holes require you to navigate through trees and a few require navigating over or around water.

The only negative is that the short tees don't have concrete pads. In the grand scheme of things, this is minor. I truly enjoy coming out here to play even though it is a bit of a drive.

I have played course every year for 4 yes now and it just keeps getting better. Played long tees for the first time this past weekend and everything flows well. Great job Scott. All I see needed is the Short Pads complete and a few ackle Buster's removed and a few branches here and there and its well on its way to becoming a top course in NE Ohio.

There's a few holes that still need some seasoning and the fairways opened up just a little bit but not anything too significant.

This course has everything. Long and short, wooded and open, shots over water. I really love how this course is taking shape. The Innova DisCatcher baskets are perfect, with that yellow band easy to spot in the woods. The paved tee pads for the white tees are perfectly placed, long, and level. There are a few holes that require a short walk to get to the next tee, but there's nothing excessive. The tee for 17 was a little tough to find at first, but the UDisc GPS feature really helped out. About the only thing this course needs is some "Next Tee" signs. Also, 17 and 18 should probably be opened up just a bit...maybe just 1 or 2 trees cut down should do it. I will definitely be back!

Played the red tees on a warm September morning. My 1st visit to this course, and overall I was pleased with it's condition. Established only a couple of years ago, its evident right away that a lot of work has already gone into carving out this primarily heavily wooded course. The biggest draw back right now is that a near equal amount of additional clearing is needed to allow the player's skills to be rewarded. Too many unnecesary tight gaps and wishful throwing at this stage, as the course wears in and clearing continues I'd expect the ratings to increase. Ample parking and plenty of picnic tables, restrooms, and other state park amenities throughout the course to allow for all day casual play if desired. While you weave in and out of the public areas and along the lake, the holes themselves are very secluded so there's little worry of crossing paths with other park goers. The course really shines between holes #11 through #14, and finishes stronger than it begins. I enjoyed all 18 holes, and the designer did a great job of including a wide variety of holes. There area few open areas which were nice to be able to air out some drives. A few that teased the waters edge, and a fair amount of elevation throughout. Long tees expand upon the options and variety provided with many long tees completely changing the layout from the short pads. I'm excited to revisit this course and watch it wear in and evolve into it's full potential.

I played yesterday 6.21.16 from the shorts for the first time. Besides being inundated by a brood of (17) year cicadas, I had a blast! I enjoyed the pin placements for the most part. Course difficulty varied by each hole; effected by changes in elevation, the amount of tree obstruction, water hazards, and other environmental factors such as the wind coming off the lake. The fairways are narrow and if by chance you have a wild shot/bounce you might spend some time searching in the heavy underbrush. Overall, West Branch State Park is a clean/friendly park that I will certainly be playing again. Compare to Portage Lakes State Park (with heavier underbrush).

The Grassman has tight and technical fairways. Good use of hills, lakes, streams and fields to break up the holes and create an unique course. Long white tees have concrete pads, Short red tees are kicks (as described) The holes are mostly marked with course signs, some are missing and most are faded as they look to be printed paper in a plastic sleeve stapled to nice wooden post. The Grassman plays great and I really enjoyed the course, the B+ is solely for the hole signs and the lack of cement pads on the short tees. I would recommend this course to others!

Great course!! Very challenging and has a great mix of technical and distance shots, with some very tricky fairways coming into play. Most of the concrete tees were in for the long holes, but being freshly done yesterday, we didn't dare playing on them to allow them to settle properly. All holes had signs with pictures and distances, which helps on the number of hidden baskets and lines that need to be seen before driving off the tee. There's a great variation between the short and long tees, with mostly different looks and lines from each set per hole. Water comes into play quite frequently, which adds to the challenge and WOW factor, in my opinion. The hole over the water (13 I believe) was definitely my favorite. There's some fast greens and some precarious pin positions, but smart play on these holes can be rewarding. A few areas could use some grooming, but being such a young course, I can't hold that against it, as in time, the lines will become much more defined and forgiving. I am a big fan of tough wooded courses, and the layout did not let me down. The flow was nice, as there generally wasn't too far walks between each hole. A course map should be used the first time out, but there are arrows at each pin to direct you to the next hole with some well beaten paths to help find your way. Par rounds from the longs will be tough to come by, but that's just how some courses are (i.e. Punderson, Portage Lakes) and should not be held against it. I had to use every shot in my arsenal here, and I respect courses that force you to do that. DEFINITELY a destination course, and once the concrete tees are in and settled for both longs and shorts, this course is totally an "A." Kudos to Scott and and anyone who helped with this course, as it just adds another great place to chuck some discs in the NEO!! Can't wait to go back and play it again!!

I don't know if it is my playing level, but it didn't seem like there were many holes where you could shoot for par without hitting at least one tree. Often times, it would take 2-3 shots just to finally see where the basket was. On the few holes that weren't in the woods, the grass was up to our shins and just made even the more open holes to be a little bit exhausting. Overall just pretty frustrated with the course. One thing I will say is that when this course does get cleaned up, and when some trees get removed to widen the fairway, I would gladly give this course another try.

A few less <3" trees in the middle of the fairways on the woods holes and this is an A, even without tee pads and being rough on the edges.

I played this course twice just to make sure i wasn't off my game. I played worse the second time around. im usually right around a par player. I was 16 over here. I love the area and the courses potential but the layout as it stands is brutal. several holes have unrealistic pars( a wall of trees every 25 feet with rolling hills) way to long for how wooded they are. The tee boxes are nicely placed with wooden markers, but the tee boxes themselves are non existent. There were some rubber markers placed that were ripped out of the ground and roots and branches in your way off the drives.The baskets are top notch Innova chains. Really nice.!! I didn't see a single garbage can on the course and that's just asking for trouble. Cans are a must have or trash will build up over time. I know this is a new course but it needs a lot of help, preferably a Chainsaw lol. If you are a casual player this is not the course for you. If you think you can par this course as it stands i would love to come out and watch. Your a disc golf God!!

I am giving this course an A because i know it will be completed in time. The tee's are rough now, and not all clearing has been done but it's a new park and how it should be. I played 2 rounds from the white tee's last week, and was in awe at every hole. Not a lot of "lost disc factors" here. It needs better direction to the next tee & some are long walks to the next but well worth it! I would not recommend it to beginners, but if you want to test your accuracy and ability to throw poker straight lines in tight fairways, GOOOO! Thank you to all that helped create this course, i will be visiting often!

This is one of the most challenging courses in Ohio. You must hit very small lanes through heavily wooded areas. The course has a couple fun water holes and a few open holes. Because this is a wooded course navigation can be difficult, make sure you print out a map and use the directional tape on the baskets.

This course could be really sweet once everything is cleared out and there are labeled tee signs. The course was fun and challenging, there's quite a bit of water in play tho. I wouldn't recommend this course for a beginner but I would definitely go back, there is another 9 hole course on the other side of the park. Yes it does need cleared out, but I remember when portage lakes needed cleared out. Like the Terminator once said, "I'll be back"

Make plans to play this course! Baskets are now in for 18 holes. There is a still some clearing to get the holes cleaned up, but the layout is very interesting and challenging. When the tee pads get in and it gets cleared out more, this will be an "A" destination course. Beautiful surroundings too! Great use of the elevation, and water that will challenge the best players.

This course was awesome to play! Mostly wooded with a few open shots. Once the course has been well worn and some tee pads are in, I will definitely up my review score. This course is a beast and will challenge all skill levels. Nice elevation changes with a mix of left and right turning fairways. The holes were very well marked with tape on the baskets and big yellow arrows. Wear pants as there is a lot of poison ivy and thorn bushes out there. Bring swim trunks and head to the beach for a dip after you play a round. Update: The course is looking better all the time! :)

Well I was in the area and saw the "coming soon spring of 2013" posted. It's the spring of 2013. Don't make plans to play the course just yet. Save yourself the trip because it doesn't seem like a limb or a path has been trimmed yet. There are only flags stuck in the ground for the pads and basket placement. No baskets! The layout looks good and the lay of the land is ideal for a course. It's a loooooong way from being completed. Maybe wait to post any info on this course until it's playable. Good luck on completing the course. Alot of hard work has to be done yet. I certainly look forward to playing the finished course and I'm sure my rating will be much higher.
