I was home for a visit from Maine and decide to check out if there were any disc golf courses in Huntington and found out Memorial Park had one. After reading some of the reviews, I decided to go and play the course along with my nephew. Playing in Maine a lot, I wanted to see how this course was myself. Well here is my review on this course..
Pros: The course is set up pretty nice, you get the opportunity to walk most of Memorial
Park and take in all the scenery and landscapes they have done to this place.
Well done park team Thumbs up.
All holes have cement tee stations and most with hole information.
Water hazards are in play and makes it a good challenge for holes 7,12,15,16.
Because I have a disc in the pond from hole #12..LOL
It's free and you can play as much as you like. Parking across from hole #1 easy
access. Didn't seem to busy through the week. We played 3 rounds that day.
Cons: Starting at hole #1 wish you had a place (maybe the picnic pavilion side wall)
where you could get a score card for the course. There is one online but having
the availability of course cards with score on one side and the whole course on
the other makes it nice and gives players information of the course. This would
be good for everyone, someone new out of town would be confused right now.
Not all holes has information on them. Some are missing. Ones that do, some of
them or not correct for distances. Information on holes need to be updated.
Some holes have been changed and moved. We spent more time the first round
looking for the next station. I had a map printed out from the site and it is not
accurate so do not go by that. Hole #4 is across the road after #3. Hole #6 the
basket has been moved up to the right in the woods on top of a hill. Took us
awhile to find this. After #13 you go into the woods for #14 then out to #15.
You throw cross walking paths and roads that come into the park. So at times
you may be waiting for people walking by or driving before you can throw. Not
sure what would happen if your playing and someone parks their car one of the
roads, and someone just starting out hits it, what will happen.
I believe that the amateur score for pars are to high. Some could be 1 higher
then the pro pars.
So over all I am very pleased how this course played. I would just like to see the information for the holes to be a little more precise on location of basket, feet and par. Scorecards available for players. I believe with all this information updated it will be an A+ course. This is mainly why I have given this course a B.
