This course in and of itself is an A- but there is something that rubs me and many others that I've talked to the wrong way that no one is able to put there finger on. Its certainly lacking in ANY of the fun factor that all so important. I don't know why. I almost never hear anyone laughing or see anyone smiling while I'm there.

Wickes Woods is a relatively new course that was just completed last summer (there are 18 holes now). There is a good variety of wooded and open holes, as well as slight elevation changes. Seemed to be slightly biased towards forehand/lefties on a lot of holes, but that just makes it all the more challenging.

While not entirely accurate, signs at every tee give the distance and a basic idea of how the hole is layed out. The designers also did an excellent job directing players to the next hole. Hadn't noticed much vandalism, but that might be a problem over time, as it is with most courses. There were also benches on nearly every hole.

As I said, this course is relatively new, and as such, there are a lot of overgrown areas and many small trees that make getting to the pin appear neary impossible. I'm not saying cut out all the trees to make is easier, but its frustrating when your drive is 20' from the pin, and have no line to the basket. Over time, though, this will be thinned out by regular play, and should improve.

We played after a few days of steady rain, and this resulted in a fairly soggy and muddy round. There were only a few problem areas/holes, though. Just come prepared with boots and towels when the weather is less than favorable. The parks department has done their part in keeping the course playable in poor conditions with large amounts of wood chips.

A few holes were incredibly challenging. I'm not positive on the exact numbers, but hole 6, 11, 12, & 17 (many of the "new" holes in the back woods) are all memorable for their difficult. 17 is almost laughable. Its approx. 250 feet long through a tunnel about 8 feel tall, and 6 feet wide, with dense trees lining both sides. So if you don't hit your line, you're looking at a 4 at best.

One last issue; there are a lot of people casually strolling, and walking their dogs that apparently have no idea that they're in the middle of a disc golf course. Maybe 3 or 4 times there were people walking down the fairway of a hole (directly towards us) and made no effort to get out of the way or hussle out of the way while we're standing on the pad. I'm sure it's not intential; this will again most likely improve over time as more and more people play here (or until they get hit by a disc)

This is an excellent course with a lot of variety and challenging layout. With some small improvements (I don't recall seeing many grabage cans), Wickes Woods has the potential to become a premire Tri-Cities destination.

Overall Wicks Woods is a very solid, very long course. A course that's over 7000 feet long is huge! But it's still enjoyable the entire time. This course is very challenging, and offers many different obstacles including, thick woods, elevation, seasonal water hazards. You also get a mix of wide open long holes, and even small open and closed holes.

Over the months the park has turned this course into a masterpiece. For $70,000+ dollars I would hope so lol they have added little thing and taken certain things out to make this course just that much better. Rock walls on the very first hole is a nice touch. Clearing out of certain trees is a good plus too because some holes were nearly impossible to even come close to getting a birdie when it's a par three. I do believe hole 4 had some vandalism to a few trees in the fairway which is a little disappointing.

Course layout with all the sings, and markets saying where the next hole is very smooth and flows well. The signs for this course are beautiful compared to most. You can tell a lot of time and effort went into this course and I personally think it turned out great. Still a little work needs to be done cleaning up some brush on the sides of the holes but othe than that I say this course is pretty much done.

This Course may be the new "Gold Standard" for Ya'lls Area. Once the course is "Broke in" a lil. I look forward to a few alternate Pins and "Blue / Pro" Tee pads. Hole 18 comes to mind for Both ... show more ›

Once the course is "Broke in" a lil. I look forward to a few alternate Pins and "Blue / Pro" Tee pads. Hole 18 comes to mind for Both. I see 18 having a Pro Pad and an Alternate pin placement of maybe another 100 feet out towards the opening and becoming a Par 5 Tournament courses that can change layouts (even slightly) in between rounds keep from stagnating. If used properly it can speed play in shorter Day months also.

Pls Do NOT Cut that small crossing tree / branch on like hole 16 or 17 (I forget which". I say this because the back nine could become a "Walking Trail" if people just get out there and start "WHACKING" the Trees / Limbs they dont like. It looks like #1 was already vandalized. Just Sayin'

Hometown course. Been playing since they started here and I've got to say I love it. Very challenging and a lot of tricky distance based holes. If I had to change anything about it I would change what my friends and I call the "fishhook" hole, or hole 6. Also hole 11 and 12 need some work still. Overall great course though. I have been playing 5-6 days a week @ Wickes and went to the Pines a couple days ago and it felt very easy compared to before playing the crap out of Wickes. I went 3 consecutive days last week and in those 3 days they had new chips, t-pads, and stonecrete down. Someone is putting a lot of love and effort into this course! We just need to see a few slight changes now! PS! Beware! I have gotten poison ivy a couple times now this summer so be sure to watch for it until they finish clearing stuff out!

Needs a little loving - signs (most are there, only 5-6 holes don't have them), trash cans, benches, etc. made available on every hole. Additionally, the course needs to be trimmed and have some of the smaller, less critical trees removed. There are a few holes where there is seemingly more luck involved than skill. Once these things are fixed, it will be an excellent course.

Really aren't any clear putting lanes on lots of the holes. And what's the affinity for the tees behind trees? Hole 6 is tough enough to go hard left through woods/over trees to a basket on a big mound without having a tree 10 feet in front of the tee. Honestly was not the most enjoyable experience having to pitch and pray so many times. A few holes like that are fine, but every hole in the woods needs lots of clearing yet. All in all you can see it taking shape and I'm looking forward to playing the more complete course.
