Technical, long, and challenging. The Bear is the most demanding course on the Highbridge Hills property, featuring several long wooded holes that require high execution placement shots to navigate moderate to tightly wooded fairways, narrowing corridors, meandering, well shaped fairways and several elevation changes.

Despite having several Par 4's, raw distance shots are trumped by well executed, controlled drives on shapely, well kept fairways. Heavily wooded roughs have little in the way of low brush overgrowth, making the risk of losing a disc low.

Several sloping doglegs and elevation changes can make a first play through difficult, but once your familiar with the shape of each hole, developing and executing a plan around your game can be immensely rewarding.

For anyone seeking challenging woods golf in Northern Wisconsin, The Bear is a must play.

The Bear is the most mentally challenging course in Wisconsin. This course is mostly wooded, but with a fair amount of space to work your shots. The technicality forces a player to plan and execute a variety of shots around corners, near water, and through the wooded fairways. Par 4's and 5's occupy most of the course turning this Par 72 beast into a placement shot style of golf. At only 8000 feet, the course is more about control than distance.

It definitely caters to higher level advanced players and pro's although all players can enjoy the beauty and the challenge as long as you understand the difficulty. Use UDisc to follow the course map as it may get a tiny bit confusing at points if it's your first time playing. After that you should get the hang of it.

Also Chris's review is not a good interpretation. While there is an unsightly view of a neighboring property on 1-2 holes, it in no way interferes with the course itself and everything else around the course has a beautiful view (take a moment on Hole 3 and enjoy the stunning view once you get out the gap). As for the course being a swamp, there are probably 2-3 holes where it can get a little wet, but again this is nothing near the level Chris is saying it is. During the middle of summer and fall you will be 100% fine, and even before that time it isn't all that wet.

This was our first hole we played in this complex. The course was barely cared for. There are views of littered homes and old broken down cars. Each hole was exceptionally difficult, ridiculously long, and full of tripping hazards. Much of the course was like playing in a bog. Our feet were soaked after playing. Charging 20.00 to play here is a joke. Don’t waste you’re money, don’t play here.
