IIT DGC was a course that I stumbled up upon in my travels to Chicago. When I travel for reasons other than disc golf (in this case, for a concert) I always do my best to try and get in at least a 9 hole round of disc golf. Especially when it is in a state I have never visited. More times than not, I am definitely choosing a shorter 9 hole course when on these non-disc related travels, and that is exactly how I found this course. ITT DGC also known as Illinois Institute of Technology Disc Golf Course, (or Illinois Tech) is a short 9 hole course placed on the college campus. While I did enjoy my round here, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this course, nor would I take the time to play it again if I found myself in Chicago again. It’s not a bad course, but you can tell that the course designer just had to work with certain areas that were made available to them. From what I understand, this course has gone through a re-design over the years and being from TN, I obviously can’t comment on if this current design is in improvement or not. The holes themselves were designed well with a good mix of available elevation and obstacles, but the course overall seemed to be lacking. As of when I played it, there are no official “tee pads”, which I don’t honestly mind, but I wouldn’t feel right not mentioning that in my review. One of my biggest issues on the course was the walk before or after you finish your round. Hole 1’s Tee and Hole 9’s Basket seem to be on opposite ends of the campus so you are going to have a bit of a walk at some point. I understand we are out playing disc golf and lots of walking is part of it, but I prefer to see courses loop in some way and start/finish near the same area. This was definitely not the case with this course. In hindsight, it would have been fun to play object golf on my way back to the car, but I didn’t think of that because I was busy wondering where the hell the car was. Haha! Seriously though, we had an interesting time weaving in and out of buildings trying to find where we parked. First time player issues I guess. With this being said, I played bad overall, but I did enjoy my round. There are some REALLY short ace runs, (which are always fun) and a couple holes that are longer than you would expect for a campus course. Especially the 9th hole. I was NOT ready for the challenges that this hole presented to me after playing such a short course. In closing, I would say that if you live in the area and just want to play a super quick 9, this would be a decent place to play. For myself living over 8 hours away from this course, this is likely the one and only time I will play it. I did absolutely love visiting Chicago, but I will definitely choose a different course the next time I am there.
