PROS
One might assume that with a small footprint and a city rec department focused on designing a course accessible to beginners and casual players, the result wouldn't be something that appeals to everyone, particularly more advanced players. Fortunately for everyone, the code was cracked. When you take the sum of all its parts, the course actually turns out to be pretty good."
The course is wooded, so you can expect the usual tests of control and finesse that come with playing in the trees. Shot shaping and touch can definitely help lower your score and a little luck can go a long way too. One standout feature that no one will complain about is the clean fairways and rough. On most wooded tracks, venturing off the fairway means battling through thick brush and briars but not here. The city did a fantastic job prepping and maintaining the course.
Surprisingly, for such a small area, there is a nice variety of rolling elevation changes. You can expect both uphill and downhill shots, with fairways that bend left and right, and even a downhill tunnel shot that is sure to give anyone a run for their money. Overall, the mix of hole lengths keeps the course feeling engaging and diverse as you play through.
There are also dual baskets (Prodigy) on half the holes. In a unique and clever design, the holes with two baskets, both short and long placements, are assigned only to the odd-numbered holes. The blue baskets make up what could be considered the 'short layout,' while the white baskets mark the long positions. I think this is one of the better uses of dual baskets I’ve seen in the area when it comes to separating difficulty and adding variety to the playing experience.
The course has all the trimmings with concrete tees, benches, tee signs, and a kiosk that includes a lost disc box. There are also covered pavilions located at the start and near the center of the course, which provide a place to rest or serve as a central hub during tournaments. I understand permanent bathrooms are in the works, but for now the porta john will have to suffice.
CONS
There’s not much to complain about here, given the course's classification. However, players who favor bomber-style layouts or overly generous fairways might find themselves a bit frustrated along the way. No one will argue that too many trees were removed on a few fairways. Holes 4, 9, and 17 come to mind, especially when playing to the long baskets. Those who don’t favor wooded courses may find the design to be a tad repetitive with a few similar feeling holes.
Prodigy baskets.
OTHER THOUGHTS
The course is located in a clean and safe area. It is very convenient to I-75, just a couple of minutes from the exit, making it a great quick stop for those traveling through Atlanta. There is also a dog park on site which offers added convenience for pet owners. The Cobb Disc Golf Club is active here with leagues and tournaments held regularly. Check the usual websites and social media for the latest information.
