Manley Elementary School DGC
Manley Elementary School DGC is “Tennessee’s Disc Golf Capital’s” newest addition. With four 18 hole courses and now, two 9 hole school courses, Morristown disc golf is growing! 2024’s newest course addition in Manley Elementary School DGC is a great compliment to the other courses in the area. I have said, for years, that Morristown needs a short beginner and family friendly course that will keep newer players coming back. This course is exactly that! As compared to the longer, more challenging courses in Rotary DGC, Cherokee Park DGC, and Panther Creek DGC coupled with the technicality of the shorter, more wooded Kiwanis DGC, this course has a great mix of shorter holes that will keep newer players coming back for more. Newer players can start on this course and have a ton of success with pars and possibly even some birdies on their first few times out playing disc golf, which is not quite as easy on the other courses in town. Yes, I do know that we have had Union Heights Elementary School DGC for quite some time, but to be blatantly honest, I think that this course is a much better representation of disc golf than UH. At Manley Elementary School DGC, there is an outstanding mix of holes where distance control and hitting lines are necessary. You never really have to “hit a fairway” at UH, you simply “pitch and putt.” However at Manley Elementary School DGC, there are a couple holes where if you are off on your line, (holes 4, 7, and 8 specifically) you won’t have a clear putt, or even a clear upshot for that matter. Furthermore, on hole 9 long, if you play the OB rules as listed on the tee signs, this hole requires distance control and accuracy. This makes for more of an overall “disc golf” experience than UH does in my opinion. I also love that this course has 2 sets of tees for every hole. This allows for each player to specifically choose which layout they prefer to play. I will occasionally take my Wife and Daughters out to play at this course and they will play all the short tees, where I will play both shorts and longs. It is overall an extremely fun experience for the entire family and I love that about this course. Now, don’t get me wrong, you aren’t going to go out to this course and challenge yourself on every hole, because that is not what this course is meant to be. However if you play this course, I promise you that you will have fun and that’s what disc golf is all about to me. As of me typing this review, Manley Elementary School DGC does feature some budget baskets and doesn’t currently have “tee pads” yet but from what I understand, the Manley Disc Golf Club is doing their part to try and raise funds for this course to get some form of tee pads and more permanent baskets. The signage at the course is already great so the course is pretty easy to follow. Overall, I think that the designer(s) of this course did an outstanding job on this course and this is definitely a step forward for Morristown Disc Golf in my opinion. Go out and play this course, and I would almost bet that you will be eagerly waiting to return simply because of how fun this course is to play!
