Kiwanis Outdoor Center is one of the best beginner-intermediate level courses in Michigan. It is an excellent choice for visitors to Battle Creek with easy access just off exit 95 on I-94. The course runs through hardwood and pine forest with a few shots in a beautiful meadow. All pads are either concrete or pavers, with excellent signage and directional arrows to help with navigation. Two pavilions are on the property (One at the entrance, one near the middle of the course) as well as two year-round outhouses the course frequently plays within a reasonable distance from. Trash cans and benches are frequent. Paths and fairways get frequent maintenance. The course is pleasant!
The short layout is designed with beginner throwers in mind, but remains entertaining for experienced players looking for ace runs. For the shorts, hole distances range from 120-250 feet, with an average of 180' or so. Most holes require some degree of technical skill, however, and ask a variety of shot shapes. It is an excellent teaching layout that has minimal brush and minimal chances to lose discs.
Long holes require modest distance, with two holes over 400' and the majority of the rest between 250'-330'. A variety of lines are present - players will benefit from having both a forehand and a backhand. Water comes into play on several holes, as does elevation, guardian trees, and greens with their own character.
Parking can get tight on busy days. In addition to the entrance lot, guests are encouraged to park alongside the entrance road. Additional parking is opened for leagues and events when high attendance is expected, but a busy day can make things snug!
This is a nice course. You will enjoy your time here. It's well worth visiting Battle Creek to play Kiwanis and enjoy all of the areas awesome courses, most of which are a short, easy drive from one another!
