This course, where do I begin...it's rugged, hill & long. This is just about what my fellow michiganders wish we had more of. This course is situated next to a school near the downtown Mandan. It is probably one of the hilliest places in the area which makes for a good course. The average hole length is 520 feet, that is not an estimate, I did the math!! The layout I played was par 66 and I shot 68 or+2. Considering hole insanely windy it was that was pretty good.
Pros: each holes has good baskets & good big cement pads (some holes you play off the walking path). There was mowed out fairways. The elevation changes are amazing! I has some epic holes both up & down hill. Super challenging! I think pros would have fun with this. True par 4s & 5s.
Cons: Not too many but, the rough is ROUGH! If you get off the fairways there are picker bushes, super tall grass & some dastardly trees that make it hard to retrieve your disc. There were a few holes that were hard to navigate to. Hole 5 was one such hole. I ended up accidentally playing to 7s basket before I realized I was going the wrong way. If you play this course on a windy day like I did it is really f'n hard!
Overall super cool course, rugged terrain, cool course design, fun & challenging. I would definitely play this course again. I definitely recommend this course to intermediate players & up. THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER FRIENDLY COURSE!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!
Recommendations: The biggest thing it needs is "next tee this way" signs. Or, on the basket spray paint the section that points to the next hole. There area few in MI that do it and it works great. DO NOT GO IN THE ROUGH! It is nasty, I am surprised I didn't lose any discs. Don't play it in a wind storm! That was a hard ass round but worth it!
