i wonder if we could borrow some of the State Park's tools? Like leaf blowers and weed trimmers? I mean if they're not going pitch in and we want to, but don't have the tools. couldn't we borrow theirs? I know I've had other park departments let us use their equipment in the past.

Another thing we should look into is finding a willing Boy Scout in the PL area that is interested in helping us with some landscaping on the backside of hole # 15 (terracing or a retainer wall) for their Eagle Scout Project.

There will be a work day this Saturday, July 16, from 8:30 to ~11:00. This will be the last Saturday before the 7/23 Portage Lakes Pirates Days tournament. Work that still is needed includes: 1) weed whacking (sickles, scythes, etc.) on 14 and 15, 2) drainage trench dug next to steps by 18s basket 3) benches (logs, etc.) placed at most tees 4) brush piles moved further off the fairways at the 15 dogleg and right side of 9

hole 13 is a par 3, if you park it 3 outta 4 good shooting, no re-evaluation needed there.

This Thursday and every First Thursday of the Month we'll be having our random doubles contest run with a little twist as we'll still have a random doubles contest, but each player will also play a singles round and score the best of the two players for their doubles score. Cost is double, so it will be $10 plus an optional ACE pot (which right now stands at $40), but they'll be 2 payouts, one for singles and another for doubles. This also will give us a good way to establish a ha ... more

From the shorts, par 54 without a doubt. Very good beginner course from the shorts so that it doesn't discourage the newer players. Plus it has a lot of technical shots from the shorts for even the seasoned veteran. But not difficult.

From the long tees I can see it as a par 58 or 59 with hole 6, 14, and 15 as par 4, and hole 18 as a possible par 4 also. Hole 9 as a par 5 for sure. Mikes 55 is probably not going to be a regular score up there for him though, not to say he can't but I don't see it as a normal score on a regular basis.

So Mike Gastin shot a 55 from the longs, and was not happy about it, he said he played mediocre, there is no way par is 61 mike said, I feel the same way, I played terrible and shot a 60, I have parked hole 13 3 times "parking lot island green", and had drop in 3's on 14 and 15, and parked hole 17 3 out of the 6 times ive played it. Im not trying to start trouble, but par needs to be reevaluated.

it sure was. We even had a young man travel all the way from the youngstown area (and plans to do it again this thursday night for the 6 pm scramble.) Pretty impressive.

Work day Saturday 6/18 (8:30 to 11:00). We will clear the former swampy area on 15 near the basket and also clear and move brush further back on the left side of the dogleg on 15. Also, the tee area on 11 needs to have poison ivy and brush removed and weeds need to be wacked everywhere on the back nine. We will play all 18 afterward. Come early and clear your own routes!

I wish to thank the volenteers who came out this morning (wednesday) and did some more grunt work. Thanks Eric Centanni for the work you did on the steps on hole 14 and for using your shovel as a weed eater to clean # 14 fairway (she, the fairway hasn't looked better) and also Thank you Steve Godar for sickling #14 fairway and putting up with my attitude. I cleaned as much of the hill behind # 15 basket as I could with the equipment I had.

Speaking of my attitude, once again I wonder wh ... more

Great job to everyone who has been working on the course. I was out there Saturday, and it's amazing to see the transformation from when I had helped out on a work day so many weeks ago. Great job everyone, it's so nice to see a group of people work together to make something like this happen!
