We wanted to give everyone a huge shout out for attending our ICE BOWL this year! With your help and that of our sponsors, we were able to raise $2000 for EightCAP!! It was great seeing 100 people out there braving the fresh snow. Big thanks to those that helped shovel and salt too!

Player Etiquette During Leagues

It has been brought to our attention that we have never really set guidelines for players as far as etiquette, so please read below.

It is up to the long-standing league members to enforce these guidelines. Typically, this is the member who is taking cash or handing out winnings during leagues. As of May, 2017, this includes Craig Clingan, John (Nacho) Norkowski, Dave Connors, Simon Porritt and Josh Taylor.

Our expectations are that all players come to our leagues with the hope of having a ... more

Wildwood Update

We (Simon, Brendan, TJ, Zach and I) put in a good day yesterday digging out and placing rocks on 18L, 5L and 7S, adding fill dirt and grass seed to all the pads on holes 1 thru 9 and cleaning up some of the pad areas. The last nine should be finished today. The tee signs are being painted with the auger being rented this week. TJ assures us that he's planting baskets tomorrow (Sunday) night (just in time for me to leave on vacation!). Feel free to stick around after doubles today if you want to pitch in. One week 'til the JBird!

Tee pads also need to be constructed but we're not sure what that entails. Holes 4 and 7 have pretty sweet pads now so you really need to get out there and check out the progress.

Basket News

I know we've all been basket cases lately wondering if we'd ever hear chains at Deerfield. Well, I spoke to Keith last night and JBird has ordered them through Innova so we could be seeing some bright and shiny baskets by next weekend (depending on shipping time). Sweet!! Thanks Keith and JBird for making this happen.

Sunday at Deerfield

If the rain stops, let's meet at the CMU course at Noon to head over to Deerfield. We may just play the course and see what yet needs to be done. Of course we'll be admiring the sweet tee pad on hole 7 that Keith and Corey made last week too. Hope you can make it.

Chippers Needed

Jordan will be setting up a time either Thursday or Friday this week to meet the County Parks workers at Deerfield to get our brush piles chipped up. Let him know when you can make it out there. Also, we hope to get all the baskets paid for this week and possibly make a trip to Discraft to pick them up. Stay tuned and get involved! Thanks.

I asked Pete to add Deerfield Park to the Scene and he did! This way we can be adding photos and such to help raise interest and awareness. Go add it to your faves!

Deerfield Work Wednesday

"Snake Acres"

After our last work session out at Deerfield, Nacho wants to call the course "Snake Acres" after we discovered an Eastern Hog-Nosed snake quietly coiled up in the shelter of an Autumn Olive bush. I've posted a picture of Sammy The Snake on my profile inside the Deerfield Park folder. Check it out along with other worker-b pictures.

Saturday 5/16

After league doubles today, we're headed out to the park to continue clearing fairways. If you're not coming into town for doubles, feel free to meet us out there but Jordan needs a head count for tools, so let him know. We'll probably hit the park around 2:30. See you there!

Climbing Wall Update

The turnout wasn't what we hoped for, but it was enough to raise about $120 towards the cause. Thanks to Jordan and Danielle for arranging this and I think I heard Jordan say something about doing it again in June, so that will be another chance for you to help out. Nacho, Josh and I all went to Belay School and spent most of the night helping people up and down the walls. The zip line was a big success with the kids too. Colton came a little later and helped take care of stuff during clean-up. Thanks to those who are putting forth some effort into making Deerfield Park a reality.

Friday Doubles

Chance are pretty good that there will be no one at the course to run doubles tomorrow night. Keith is headed for Lansing and hopefully the rest of us will be at the Finch Fieldhouse helping to raise money for Deerfield. We'll see you Saturday at noon for our next doubles.

Climbing Wall Fundraiser

Hopefully you are all joining Jordan as we raise money for yet another basket for Deerfield. Tomorrow will be the $10 family night at the Finch Climbing Wall and those of us who show up early will be taught how to belay and get fed tacos! Also, if you have a Mt Pleasant Disc Golf shirt, this would be a good time to wear it. So, see you at Finch Fieldhouse tomorrow (5/15) at 4pm for belay training. Climbing runs from 5pm until 8pm. I'm sure there could be cold refreshments somewhere afterwards. Thanks!!

Saturday Update

Well for doubles today, Keith, Nacho and I had a nice round of Bag Tag Cali-Singles. Keith and Nacho each shot minus 8 and I had fun watching my putter waiver in the wind. Keith pulled out the win on hole 2 placing his second drive right under the basket. Nacho was unable to can his long putt, so we both paid Keith and all kinds of bag tag swapping took place. Afterward, Ben met us out at Deerfield and the 4 of us pretty much finished holes 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. I believe we're down to the last 4 baskets being sponsored too, so things are coming along.

Deerfield Work Sunday

We're meeting at 12:30 at the CMU course to carpool over to Deerfield Park. We can really knock it out today if we get enough help. We got a lot of work done on the first 6 holes yesterday and we only had 2 hours to work. See you there!

Deerfield Work Saturday

Jordan has made plans with the Parks Department to get some work done out at Deerfield Park tomorrow following our Noon doubles. We'll be leaving from the Golf Course parking lot, probably around 2. Catch a ride with us or meet us out there. The more people, the more fairways we can clear. See you tomorrow!

Deerfield today, part 2

Hey Keith and everyone,
I spoke to Jordan yesterday about this and the Parks are being pretty fussy about when we can do anything out there. Sounds like it will be limited to times when they can have someone out there with us to hold our hands. BTW, I have assorted implements of destruction in the back of my car too! ;-) Jordan may get something together on Sunday. We'll have to wait and see...

Bag Tag League

If you haven't purchased your Bag Tag from TJ, hurry and do so. I've created a league here so we can track our challenges online and see who has which tag. Let me know if you've purchased a tag so I can add you to the staff. Everyone will be staff so we can all enter our challenge results. Let's have fun while we better our game.

Max Doubles

Hey Guys and Gals,
Let's plan on taking a couple vehicles full of crazed golfers to Newaygo State Park next Sunday (4/19) for a random draw "Max Doubles" fund raising event. The $10 entry will go towards helping Max Nunn make a full recovery. I've put a flier on my website at http://clinganphoto.com/discgolf/max_doubles.jpg .
Thanks

Golf Towels

Hey, what do you all think about having some sweet towels printed up with our new logo and selling them at tourneys (aka Keith's trunk) and maybe pocketing some cash towards Deerfield? I know I could use a new DARK towel. How about you?

Flip Filling Fast

If you are thinking about playing in Saturday's tourney at Flip City, you better register NOW! I just did and there are only about 15 spots left. Here's the link: http://northernwatersseries.org/flip_city_01.htm . You will still want to get to the course early and sign in so they don't give your spot away to someone on the waiting list. See you there!

Donor Letter for Deerfield

Since the plans have been OK'd by the County, the next step is to find friends and businesses that are willing to help pay for baskets, lumber, cement, etc. Jordan has created a Donor Letter and Pledge Sheet and you can access it at : http://deerfielddiscgolf.weebly.com/uploads/1/7/6/3/1763507/donor_lettet_and_pledge_workable.pdf

If you have questions regarding the form, there is more information at Jordan's site for the course at http://deerfielddiscgolf.weebly.com/donor-page.html ... more

Bag Tags

Here's a message from TJ. I will also post this under the "Talk" tab so people can respond.

"now that we have some club shirts (thanks again josh), would anyone else be interested in buying some bag tags and/or having a bag tag challenge where we order tags 1-25 or such, and as you play, winner takes the highest number. LMK what you think.

News from Jordan

"Well the meeting last night would have been good but no one came to support and the board decided there wasn't enough interest. Just kidding, its a go! I will have donation forms by the end of the week. We have to get all the money raised before work begins so keep thinking about businesses or people who may want to donate. Thanks to everyone who has helped with this project so far. Now the real work and fun begins." Jordan B.

The Final Step for Deerfield!

Jordan and the Isabella Parks Board will be taking the Deerfield Park Disc Golf Course proposal to the full County Commission tomorrow night (Tuesday, 7:00pm). It's in room 225 at the county building. I'm sure a showing of support would be nice. Once the final "OK' is given, the next task will be to get donations for baskets. Jordan is drafting up a formal tax-exempt donation form this week, so be looking for that and be thinking of businesses that might be interested in donating. Hope to see you tomorrow night at 7!

MIDGC #6

The weekend started out with a round of draw doubles Saturday (2/21) at noon. Of course, this was right in the middle of our latest winter storm. The course went from grassy knolls with clear t-pads to drifting snow and ice pellets blasting against your face. We had 10 golfers including 3 from the Big Rapids/Morley area so it was nice having some visitors to play with/against. All in all, a great day for disc golf! Check out the League page for scores and standings.

Deerfield Park Visit

Today, Jordan, Josh, Nacho, Nick and I went out to the park and actually threw most of the holes. There's still some uncertainty about the layout of 1,2 & 3 but the rest of the course is really shaping up nicely. My back was yelling at me from yesterday's escapades, so I just walked the course with my trusty Discraft 175 and threw it once in a while. The bomb down the sledding hill was a definite highlight. There's still a need to pack down a walking path if we want to get the parks board out there before the snow is gone. I'm sure we'll hear more from Jordan as this project moves forward.

Saturday Doubles 2/7/09

What a great turnout today! 15 people, easily surpassing our past record of 6. It was warm but man was it windy! The scores ranged from a 50 to a 58. Following the round, Keith and I went out to Deerfield Park and walked the newly proposed 18-hole championship layout. We're both itching to play it! Stay tuned for more news...
