Brennan Billow wins 1st MIDGC Book Scholarship

After dropping the lowest event score for the season, Brennan Billow edged out Kyle Jansen 442 - 439 to win the first-ever MIDGC book scholarship. This scholarship will cover the cost of his books for the fall semester, 2012 (up to $300!).

FSU Wins 2010-11 Season Championship

Congratulations to the FSU Disc Golf Team on their winning their 2nd MIDGC Season Championship! See you in the Fall!
Remember, all students play for free and will be competing for a book scholarship and berths to both the 2012 Michigan Disc Golf Championships AND the 2010 Michigan Match Play Championships!

MIDGC Finals @ Bluegill this Saturday!

Join us for the MIDGC Finals at Bluegill this Saturday. All those who have earned points this season can play in the first ever, singles match play bracket challenge for a mere $20. (Those who have not yet earned points this season, but who would like to play in the bracket may reserve a place on the waiting list by posting a note here! and may do so for a small fee of $30 ...which includes entry into a $100 ace pool and at least 3 chances on 3 different holes to win a $20 cash CTP!).

Match Play Bracket for Finals (theoretical)

Assuming all top points winners in both the club and intercollegiate divisions attend the finals, here is what the brackets would look like:

PAYOUT NOTE: 3rd round win = $30 more (winner of the losers match wins $10 more), Finals win = $50 more (for $100 total!)
and the rest of the field will play doubles, with added cash resulting in the following payouts: 1st $100, 2nd $80, 3rd $60, 4th $40, 5th $20. Also available to all players throughout the day will be three, $20, cash CTP's (all covered with the $20 or $30 entry fee - 20 for series pts earners, 30 for all others).

NOTE: Any of the college players (beyond the four representing the top 4 colleges whose fees are paid) who would want to buy in to the match play tourney ($20 each, $250 added cash) would have that prerogative and be seeded based on their points earned for the season. (So, for instance, if Kyle Jansen--currently #2 in the points race--opted to buy-in, he would be the #2 seeded player in the draw...). If he chose not to buy-in, he would be randomly assigned a regular match-play singles match against another college player (no fee).

Also, should there not be 4 college players, and 12 points earners opting to play in the bracket of 16, available spots will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Those players opting to buy-in to the bracket would pay an entry fee of $30...

EARNING PTS TOWARD THE SCHOLARSHIP: Those college students who play in the match play singles bracket, will earn 30 points for a 12 hole match win (not doubled), and 16 points for a 12 hole match loss (again, not doubled). The college students playing in the traditional one, 18-hole handicapped singles match . will have their points for the one match doubled. Then any college student playing into the final four will earn points in a similar fashion for each of the 2 remaining, singles match-play matches, while all others will be playing one, 18-hole handicapped doubles match.

The top 5 student points finishers will each earn a berth to the 2011 State Finals!

Thoughts on the 2011-12 Season

Students should play for free. There are plenty of individuals/clubs out there with the player-base, the interest, the passion for the sport, and the resources, to sponsor a two-person team to compete in the MIDGC 2011-12 Championships. They don't even have to be the same two people for each event! $20 per 2-person team per event is all it would take. Imagine how fun it would be if every club represented in the MDGO, for instance, would pit 2 of their own college players in an event against team ... more

Date for Finals Set - New Format Announced!!

The top 12 players in the points race will have the first choice of playing in a true match-play bracket with $400 added cash ($50 entry fee and a top cash prize of $500 to the winner!). The top 4 colleges in the points race will have the option of designating a player to compete for the Match Play Champion ... more

Mark your calendars. The 2010-11 MIDGC Finals will be played at Bluegill on Saturday, April 30th.
This year, the format will include the first ever, Michigan Match Play Championship Bracket. The top 12 players in the points race will have the first choice of playing in a true match-play bracket with $400 added cash ($50 entry fee and a top cash prize of $500 to the winner!). The top 4 colleges in the points race will have the option of designating a player to compete for the Match Play Championship (entry fee covered by the MIDGC). Those four players will "round out" a Championship bracket of 16 players and will compete against each other in their own seeded bracket (1 of 4, 4 player brackets with #1 v #4 and #2 v. #3--guaranteeing the college individual match play champion a place in the "final four.")

Players in each of the 4-player "regionals" will play two, back-to-back, 12 hole matches, beginning play on a randomly assigned hole). Players will be "seeded" in brackets according to total points scored throughout the regular season. The first 12 hole match winners will then compete against each other, while the losers compete against each other for the second 12 holes (competing for "match play" win cash!). Should any match be tied after 12 holes, play will continue until the match is decided. Players will not keep score for every hole....Once the winner of a given hole has been decided, players will pick up and move on!.

After the two, back-to-back match-play rounds have been completed we will break for lunch. Following lunch, the 12 losers will play 21 holes of random-draw, best shot doubles for a top prize of $200, with second taking $100.

During the doubles round, the "final four" will play back-to-back rounds once again for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place, paying $500, $200, $120 and $80 respectively.

All players not in the MP Championship bracket of 16 will play a round of 18 singles match play the first round (handicapped as per play throughout the season), and a round of 18 hole doubles match play the second round, also handicapped as per play throughout the season, with points earned doubled and applied to the Season Championships points total!

This is really going to be fun!
