Trilogy Challenge at Discovering the World 2021

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for signing up for this year’s Trilogy Challenge! This event was a lot of fun last year and I’m so excited to be hosting it again.


Please, please, please read this email in its entirety as it contains a lot of information you’ll need to know for the event! If you happened to sign up someone else and did not add their email to the registration, they might not receive this and you may need to forward this to them.


1. Requesting cardmates/tee times:


We currently have 189 people registered for this event. Out of that 189, 135 requested a Saturday tee time and 111 of those were for Saturday morning! Because I’d prefer not to start checking people in at 5 am (as I’m sure most of you don’t want to either), I would GREATLY appreciate it if I could have some volunteers move to Sunday afternoon (preferred) or Saturday afternoon.


If you requested to be put on a card with specific people, there is a better chance that you will all be put together if I can move you to a more open time slot. Please note that if I don’t have enough people move time slots, I’ll still have to have some Saturday morning requests teeing off in the afternoon. If you’ve already reached out to me to let me know who you’d like on your card (either during registration or since then), I have your requests written down. If you have someone or multiple people you’d like to play with, please shoot me an email and I’ll try to make it happen. Cards can have 3-5 people.


Deadline to request cardmates will be next Friday, July 2nd. Cards and check-in times should be sent out and posted by the end of the day on July 4th.


2. Checking in:


Check-in for this event will be held at Discovering the World (6455 Roland Ave, Buena Park CA). I will have everything set up outside of the building, not inside the store! At check in, players will receive their players packs and will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets. I will also have a caddy book with all of the rules, OB’s, etc.


Once your whole card has checked in, you will head over to La Mirada BACKSIDE to play 18 holes with your new discs. I suggest bringing a Sharpie to write your name in your new discs so you don’t mix them up with anyone else’s.


Players packs are ordered, but they won’t be here until closer to the event. I am not taking color requests for the discs, but you can choose your pack at check-in.


3. Playing your round:


You are only allowed to play with your 3 new discs from the players packs. I would recommend bringing a smaller bag (or no bag) and leaving your normal bag at home or in your car so that you’re not tempted to bust out your usual putter! If you use other discs during your round, you will be disc-qualified from the event.


There will be a UDisc event set up on the app, so you will need to create a free account on UDisc before checking in and 1 person per card will need to keep score. Cards are required to start on hole 1 and play holes in order, finishing on 18.


We are very fortunate to be having this event! Please remember that we are guests at La Mirada Disc Golf Course. If there are people on the fairway, please explain that there is a tournament going on and politely ask them to move. Do not throw if anyone is on the fairway!


This is not a PDGA sanctioned event, but PDGA rules are in effect! Smoking and drinking will not be allowed during the round. Please refer to the Official PDGA Rules for any questions you have and let me know if you need clarification on anything:

Most rulings are up to the card, but if you have a question about a specific throw (whether or not it’s in bounds, etc.) you can throw a provisional and ask me after the round. The 2 meter rule is not in effect!


4. Prizes:


After the event is over I will send out an email and post on discgolfscene the list of winners of the event. 1st place in each division will receive a trophy disc. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each division will get a pin. There will also be Dynamic Disc gift cards for top finishers in each division (the number of people getting paid out depends on the number registered). I added an extra pack of DD gift cards since we had so many people sign up! Pins and trophy discs can either be picked up in person at Discovering the World or shipped with a fee. Gift cards can either be picked up in person or I can email the codes.


If there is a tie for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place, I will reach out to the players and see if they’d like to schedule a play off.


5. Raffle:


I have an order on the way from DD with over $400 worth of goodies for the raffle plus a Marksman Basket! The raffle prizes will include backpacks, discs, and other accessories. Raffle tickets will be on sale when you check in for the event. This year I will have separate raffles for each prize, so you can choose how you want to distribute your tickets. Tickets will be available for $1 each, 12 tickets for $10, or 25 tickets for $20.


50% of the proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the La Mirada Disc Golf Club, who has been using club money for brand new baskets, wraps, tee signs, tee pads, and pin positions.


Winners will be picked on Facebook live after the event on Sunday, July 18th. Raffle winners will also be in the email sent out along with the event winners. The Marksman Basket, backpacks, and stool will need to be picked up in-person at DTW. Other prizes can either be picked up in-person or shipped for a fee. The deadline to pick up will be August 31st, 2021. If prizes are not picked up by then, they will be donated to the club.


6. Other Info:


Please do not contact Discovering the World about the event. They are VERY kindly letting us have the check-in on the property, but all questions should be directed to me via email ([email redacted]).



The weekend of the event is supposed to be pretty warm, so make sure you bring water!


Players packs cannot be picked up any earlier than your check-in time.

Hey everyone! I'm super excited to be running another Trilogy Challenge this year!

This year we'll be playing La Mirada Disc Golf Course (Backside), but player check-in/disc pick up will be at Discovering the World.

This event will be held with flex starts over 2 days, July 17th & 18th, with everyone playing only 1 round. Once sign ups are closed, I will create cards based on preferences and send out a schedule with your check-in time at Discovering the World.

A division must have at least 3 people. If there is a division with less than 3, I will contact the players about where to move them. There will be a trophy disc for the 1st place finisher in each division and pins for 2nd and 3rd in each division.

Players packs will include a driver, a midrange, and a putter (these are the only discs you can use in the Trilogy Challenge!), a mini, and a towel.

There will be a raffle on Sunday night after the cards are all in. Raffle tickets will available for purchase at check in and prizes will include discs, bags, disc golf accessories, and (if 100 players sign up) a Marksman Basket! 50% of the raffle profit will go to the La Mirada Disc Golf Club for course improvements, new baskets, and new tee signs.

Full refunds will be given out if you drop out by June 10th. If you drop out after June 10th, because players packs will be ordered, you will receive your players pack instead of a refund.
