About this tournament

SpAce Race Round 1 is an ace run held at Horning's Hideout Highlands course. For an ace run you throw from the tee trying to make a hole in one with no further throws to complete the hole. 2 rounds played consecutively, 3 throws from the tee per hole per player . Bring your own discs to throw, with holes ranging from 100 feet to 270 feet. Bring extras in case of a lost disc. 8:30 - 9:15 a.m. registration/warm-up, 9:30 a.m. tee off. 20$ buy-in gives you a premium disc of your choice (Lat64, Dynamic or Westside), 1$ for the Double Ace pot, and 3$ for the prize pool. Cash only, pay at event. 72 players max for the event (18 groups of 4).

Scoring will be 5 points for an ace, 2 points for metal, 3 points for a solid chain smash that also hits pole and kicks out.

Play with your own group of up to 4 players . Registered groups smaller than 4 players and individuals will be randomly assigned to foursomes.

Horning's Hideout has a 4$ day use fee (going up from 3$ April 1st). You can also buy prorated annual passes, which are a great value. Horning's has three great eighteen hole courses, so you can always spend the rest of the afternoon playing the other courses after the event.

Snacks and coffee are available for sale from Horning's on the weekend. Bring your own more substantial fare.

You can pre-register by messaging me here. You can also "Like" the Portland Mobile Disc lab page here:
If you're on the facebook page, look under "Events" click the "Join" button for the "SpAce Race 2013 @ Horning's Hideout: Round #1" event. Once you know the names of everyone who will be in your group (2 to 4 players) and they have joined the event, send me a message with that information. If you have a non-internet using member of your group who is planning on playing send me a message with their name.

If you have a change of plans and are unable to attend the event after pre-registering, let me know so we can keep an accurate projection of participants.

SpAce Race 2013 will consist of 8 monthly ace run tournaments held at Horning's Hideout Highlands course. The Highlands course is great for ace runs as almost every hole is less than 200 feet. We will be playing from the regular tee boxes for the first round, but may create a safari layout for a future round.

The day of the tournament each month will not always be the 2nd Saturday of the month (like this first event). We will try and schedule each month's round 2 to 4 weeks ahead of time, fitting it in around pre-existing events, chiefly Disc Golf or Die special Saturday events and any of the large Portland area annual events, as well as Horning's Hideout events.

The only way to guarantee a spot for the final SpAce Race round is to attend this first round and then the majority of the subsequent rounds. Registration priority will be given according to attendance -- as long as you're in the first round you're guaranteed registration priority for the second round, etc.

Each monthly round of the SpAce Race will not necessarily be a 20$ buy-in involving a disc purchase, we'll try to mix things up with a unique twist or two each month.

For round 1, Portland Mobile Disc Lab will add 5 discs minimum to the prize pool, plus 10% gross of all pre-tournament merchandise sales will be kicked into the prize pool! Insta-win a new putter with an ace on hole #1! There will be two additional secret scoring categories (revealed pre-tee off) with prizes that don't involve hitting an ace or metal! Merchandise sales after the tournament begins will have 10% of the gross go to the following month's round prize pool.

Prizes will be given to the highest individual scores in each series round. We'll be aiming to give out prizes to around the top 20% each event, spreading it out some instead of a very top heavy 1st place prize. There will also be an overall series winner for the individual with the highest point total counting their 6 best rounds (allowing for one missed event or throw out your worst score if you've attended all 8 rounds), as well as 2nd and 3rd place series runner-ups. A small portion of each round's prize pool will be saved for the series' winners.

Portland Mobile Disc Lab will be kicking in 20$ to the Double Ace pot to go along with the 1$ from each player's entry fee. The Double Ace pot is won when 2+ aces are made by a group on the same hole. If only one group hits the Double Ace pot once in a series round, 10% of the pot will go to each non-acing member of the group, with the rest divided evenly among the acers or to the individual who alone made 2+ aces. If there are multiple Double Pot ace holes in a series round, the pot will be divided according to number of aces on the double ace holes, with none going to non-ace members of the groups. If the Double Ace pot is not won in a monthly round it will carry over to the next monthly round. If there are no Double Ace pot winners in the final round, the pot will be divided equally according to aces in the final round. The Double Ace pot will be difficult to win -- it very well might be the entire Double Ace pot up for grabs for single aces in the series' final round in November!
