About this tournament

Welcome to the 6th Annual BADGers Ice Bowl, benefiting the Meals on Wheels of Alamance County. With this being our 6th year, I hope we can make this a really special event for our charity and for the players. The impact we have made for the charities we have supported has been truly amazing, thanks to all of those past and present supporters of this one-day event!
'Here are some statistics of our past Ice Bowl events:
In 2016, our first Ice Bowl, we had 45 participants that raised $1,000 in cash and 181 pounds of food.
In 2017, we had 70 participants raising $1500 in cash, and 1911 pounds of food.
In 2018, our most successful year we had 60 participants raising $2018 in cash, and 1939 pounds of food.
In 2019, a literal wash-out due to flooding, we had 60 participants raising $1641 in cash, and 1450 pounds of food.
In 2020, tournament location change and scrambling due to Covid-19 we had 43 participants raising $960 in cash, and 1698 pounds of food.
That’s a total of $7,119 in cash and 7,179 pounds of food for charity!!!
Our Ice Bowl has led the Country in food raised for the last 4 years, the last two years we were either 1st or 2nd in the state in cash raised. That is a HUGE testament to the disc golf family we have in the Burlington area. I’m hoping this year we can blow ALL those numbers out of the water. One way I think we can do that, is to reach out and get more corporate sponsorship for the event; so we are going to have a bit of a contest. Whomever raises the most sponsorship money for the event, will get their entry fee refunded for the 2020 event, a free entry into the 2021 Ice Bowl, and something else that will be unveiled at the event.
As we have done the past 5 years of this event, we will be allowing mulligans, one per hole. The cost of a single mulligan is 2 canned goods. So for two rounds, that would be 72 canned goods to allow a mulligan on each hole. This has been a tremendous success and we not only filled the food pantry at Meal on Wheels, but we also took up additional space of 3 other rooms in their building!
Entry fee this year is $30 with an included $5 ace pool. This is a trophy only event, first two place in each division will receive a trophy. We have started with 6 basic divisions, if there is a special division you'd like created, please reach out to Collin Murphy to request it. Keep in mind there must be at least 3 players in a division to be opened. If the ace pool is not hit, half will go to the charity and half will be awarded after a throw-off CTP/Ace Run by all participants after the second round. This year we also look to having a large amount of CTPs available, most of us have discs in bins sitting around, any donations to supplement for CTP prizes is most appreciated.
We will also be selling raffle tickets throughout the day with a drawing after the awarding the 1st and 2nd place finishers in each division.
If you haven’t played this event before the logistics of collecting over 1400 pounds of cans is insane! So, like last year, we will be having a Players Party at Beer Republic in Elon the night before the event for players’ pack pick up and can drop off. We strongly encourage as many folks as possible to take advantage of this, it allows the volunteers some time to breath in the morning before the event, and cuts down on lugging cans more than necessary.
This is a pre-registration only event, no day of sign ups, registration opens 01/01/21 at 5pm. The first 72 players are guaranteed player packs, and if we get enough entries by Mid-January we can up that number.
Check-in will start at 8am on 3/13/20, player meeting at 930am, and tee off at 10am. We have also made food available each year and hope to switch it up a bit this year, details to follow.
All Women Divisions and MA3 will play The Dream layout both rounds!
All Other Divisions will play the Nightmare layout first round and The Dream layout second round.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Collin Murphy, email is preferred at [email redacted], you can also call/text Collin at 336-380-6089.
Thank you again for your continued support of this truly remarkable charity event.
