About this tournament
1 round of play
Welcome to the second of our San Diego Aces $5 Flex Starts! The goal here is for PDGA members to be able to get a rated round for a low cost, and maybe a PDGA win to go along with it. Because of the low entry fee there will be no player packs, trophies or payout. $3 of your $5 goes to the PDGA to cover administrative costs, and the other $2 will help cover the $50 sanctioning fee. Anything left over will go towards lunch for the guys hanging out at the table all day. There's a good chance that all players will receive a disc courtesy of the PDGA. I received 50 discs as an incentive to finish PDGA's TD Training course. I'm putting those discs in the hands of players!
The San Diego Aces worked out an agreement with Escondido Parks staff to let us run 1 weekday flex-start tournament each month, in recognition of the fact that we cover the insurance for the disc golf course, do some maintenance work on the course and provide stewardship to the disc golf community. We hope you'll have fun with these events.
Since this tournament is PDGA sanctioned, there will be a $15 fee added for players who are not current PDGA members. The San Diego Aces have a $5 discount code for PDGA membership - we'll have that code available at the check-in desk if you want to sign up for PDGA on the spot. And if you already paid the $15 fee, we'll refund it on the spot.
This $5 flex-start idea is not an original one. We stole it from some other TDs around the country who have tried out this way to deliver more rated rounds and more competitive fun to local players. These types of events are one way Sam Barfield was able to set the Guinness World Record for most sanctioned events played in one year (he played 172 events in 2024). We'll run 11 (I was in the hospital in February and was unable to run an event), someone else will have to run the other 161 if you want to break his record.
Pre-registration here on Disc Golf Scene is appreciated, but we will take walk-up registrations.
