About this tournament
— about this project —
Indy Disc Golf Club is helping the town of Rocky Ripple, IN install a 5-target, beginner-friendly disc golf course in their community park (Hohlt Park). The target audience for this course is Rocky Ripple residents & community members, disc golf beginners, and players of all ages. Hohlt Park is located right next to Butler University and the neighborhoods of Butler-Tarkington, Meridian-Kessler, and South Broadripple, and we expect the Hohlt Park disc golf course to:
(a) provide an entry-level recreational experience to a wide swath of new disc golfers
(b) be a lunch break destination for more experienced players that work/live in the area
— general format —
5 baskets have been installed in the park. Tee areas are digitally mapped on UDisc and currently marked with paint. Come join us on Saturday, September 20th to playtest the current design ideas before we install pavers to semi-permanently mark them. We need your help to find all the areas that we never thought misthrows could reach. We are also especially interested in garnering feedback from junior players, women, and beginners. If you have ever been curious how disc golf courses come to be, and why holes are designed in certain ways, this is a great chance to participate in the process.
From 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, with the help of Hyzer Ground, we are holding an informal clinic for kids, interested people from the neighborhood, and uber-beginners. The clinic audience is aimed for people that have never played before and are interested in trying it out. This is not a take-your-game-from-300-to-400-ft clinic.
After the clinic, around ~ 11:00 AM, we will hold a BBQ at the pavilion in the park and officially open the course up for play. There will be food, drink, yard games, and frisbees. Come hang out with us. We will also have commemorative Zing minis to give away. And we are seeking donations to our disc library at the park if you have any unwanted frisbees - especially beginner-friendly ones..
— low speed, high speed, mini challenge —
In addition to being able to just play the course, you can also choose to participate in our grand opening Lord of the Frisbees challenge of three 5-hole loops of play with disc use restrictions for each loop.
• Low Speed: choose one disc less than or equal to 5 speed to play the entire course with
• High Speed: choose one disc greater than or equal to 7 speed to play the entire course with
• Mini: choose one mini disc to play the entire course with. Per the Mini Disc Golf Federation rules, mini discs must be less than 4.5'' in diameter - sorry, no macros allowed. We will have free event souvenir minis on site from Zing that are Mini Disc Golf Federation-approved.
For each 5-hole loop, you must use your chosen "one disc" for the first two throws on any hole. For any subsequent throws, you may use whatever disc you want. The best 15-hole combined score will win a trophy, and we'll have some prizes for other finishing positions.
— donate —
We are seeking kid and new player friendly discs to add to our disc library in the park if you would like to bring any to donate. Thanks to everybody that has already helped with this project during the earlier phases.
