Robert Wright Ropes (RWR) was an early disc golf enthusiast. I remember him dragging me out to disc golf courses in the mid-70s. He was my best friend from high school, Purdue roommate, and later business partner. He was one of the initial proponents and advocates for getting the city to install the Highland Park Course. We were even going to open a private course/campground outside of town but then he was struck down by Pancreatic Cancer at the way-too-early age of 42, leaving behind a young family, including a college student, a 10-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter. It was all very sad and tragic, especially considering how generous and giving he was throughout his shortened life. Much to his catholic father's objection, after death, he even donated his body to pancreatic research. He's a noble person to name the tournament after, both in the historical development of disc golf in Kokomo and in the connection to pancreatic cancer research.
