Match Play in Brief:
All matches this weekend will be 9 holes. If a match is tied after 9 holes it remains tied.
Determine tee order by flipping a disc, rock, paper, scissors, or some other mutually acceptable method. If there is not “action” (one player or another winning a hole) then the tee order remains the same. If there is action then the player winning the hole moves to teeing off first.
Matches are scored by Holes Ahead vs Holes Remaining.
So if Player A wins the first hole of a match with Player B, Player A is “1 up with 8 to play”. Once the number of holes up exceeds the number of holes remaining the match is over. In the example match we will say the 2 players tie for the next 6 holes- that puts Player A “1 up with 2 to play”. Player A wins the next hole to go “2 up with 1 to play” and the match is over. Player A should report the score as “2 with 1”. These scores are potentially important as a tiebreaker so getting it right does matter.
If one match is over in a foursome and the other is still going on the players from the completed match need to remain with their group in case there is a need for them to officiate a disagreement. Players whose matches are complete may play along while the other pair finishes their match.
