Competition Format
The Mider Cup is a Match Play event consisting of three 12-hole matches. There will be a break for lunch and course switch after the first 18 holes have been played. That is, one match will be finished and the second match will be halfway through. After lunch we will finish the second match and then play the last match.

The most important thing to know is what hole you start on. When you get there, you will play 12 holes against your first competitor. At that point you will switch to your next competitor on your card and play 6 more holes before we break for lunch. Everyone will switch courses at lunch. After lunch it is also important to know where you start on the next course. But it’s easy, you start at the same number you did on the first course! If you started on Red Fox hole 7 in the morning, then you start on Lynx hole 7 after lunch!

From there, you’ll play 6 holes to finish your second match. Finally, you will switch to your final competitor and play the remaining 12 holes. All in all, everyone plays all 18 holes on both Lynx and Red Fox.

Players will be slotted into a foursome within their division by their Mider Cup Captain(s). Matches will be rotated based on the order of the teams in each pool.

Pool A (Starting on Lynx)
1. Odegaard
2. Kloskin
3. Anderson
4. Murtha

Pool B (Starting on Red Fox)
1. Wilder
2. Zierden
3. Wilson
4. Sanburg

Order of play within your grouping;
1 plays 2, then 3, then 4.
2 plays 1, then 4, then 3.
3 plays 4, then 1, then 2.
4 plays 3, then 2, then 1.

Detailed Grouping / Match / Hole Information
If you are confused by the rotations described above, here is a very detailed list of who plays who, when, and where. Detailed hole listings will also be on your scorecards. No need to worry, but maybe you just want to start visualizing your Match Play dominance!

Match Play Rules
Most of what you need is covered by: https://www.pdga.com/rules/official-rules-disc-golf/appendix-a
One necessary change/elaboration is on Order of Play, as the PDGA rules don’t address which pair tees first.
Order of Play:
The teeing order at the beginning of each match is as listed on the scorecards provided.
On all subsequent holes, two things must be considered:
Between opponents. Within a pair of opponents, the player who won the previous hole throws first. Ties do not change the throwing order.
Between pairs of opponents. If the previous hole resulted in that hole being won for one pair of opponents, that pair tees off first on the next hole. If both pairs pushed or both pairs had someone win the hole, there is no change in the teeing order between pairs.
Conceding Holes / Continuing Play
Fall in Minnesota means less daylight. We want to try our best to keep this event moving so that we can celebrate our Mider Cup Champions in daylight. For pace of play, we encourage all players to concede holes whenever it is appropriate to do so. We also know that some matches might finish before the full 12 holes have been played. In those instances, it is fine for players to continue throwing to stay loose and practice. That said, always be mindful of the cards ahead of you and behind you. If the next tee is open or a group is waiting on you, please pick up and move on immediately.
Match Play Scoring
A player wins a hole by completing the hole in fewer throws than their opponent. The player who won the hole receives a score of 1. The other player receives no score, which should be indicated by a dash. If the two players complete the hole with the same number of throws, the hole is “halved”, and neither player receives a score, again indicated by a dash.
The ONLY markings that should be used on scorecards are either a “1” or a dash “-”. All players will mark down a “1” on their scorecard when they win the hole and a dash if they lose or tie. PLEASE do not use any other symbols, especially specific hole scores (2s, 3s, etc.).

When your match is complete there is a column to count up how many holes each competitor won. Finally, there is a column for points for the match. If you won the match you receive 2 points. If the match was a tie you receive 1 point. If you lost the match you receive 0 points.

Overall Mider Cup Scoring System
Each competitor will receive 2 points for every match won, 1 point for every match tied, and 0 points for every match lost. Once all three matches have been completed, points are added for each team. The top two teams from each pool will advance to a final 9. The top team from each pool will play each other for 1st place. The second team from each pool will play each other for 3rd place.

If two or more teams tie for the win (or tie to make it to the final 9), the tiebreaker will be most 2 point matches. Second tiebreaker will be the highest team total during a single matchup throughout the day. If both of these do not suffice, the Team Captains will choose one competitor from their team to compete in a sudden death head-to-head playoff starting at hole 1 of Timberwolf.

Layouts
Every player will play two full 18-hole layouts by the end of pool play - one on Lynx and one on Red Fox. All divisions except FA2/FA3 will play from the LONG tees. The FA2/FA3 division will be playing from SHORT tees when available. Additionally, during the Championship Match, the FA2/FA3 division will play hole 18 on Timberwolf from the Drop Zone, as there is no short tee.

Maps and OB information can be found on the Preserve website. Links are provided below.

Lynx: https://mnpreserve.com/pages/the-preserve-lynx

Red Fox: https://mnpreserve.com/pages/the-preserve-red-fox

If your team makes the final 9 for either the 1st place match or 3rd place match, you will be playing a separate 9-hole layout on Timberwolf.

Championship Match: Timberwolf 1-4, 6-7, 16-18

Third Place Match: Lynx 2-8, 17-18

Timberwolf: https://mnpreserve.com/pages/the-preserve-timberwolf
***Note: There seems to be a discrepancy between course map and the tee signs. It looks like they missed hole 5 on the course map and so the numbering gets off for awhile. They also forgot to combine two holes to make the new hole 12, so then the numbering gets back on after that. We are mentioning this because of our layout skipping the new short hole 5 and going to 6. We want you to play the correct hole 6 if you aren’t familiar with the course!

Out of Bound / Mandos:
All of the typical OB and Mandos on these courses are in play. These details are listed on tee signs and can be reviewed on The Preserve website: https://mnpreserve.com/

Red Fox: Water is OB throughout the course. Short tees for FA2/FA3 on 12.

Lynx: Water is OB throughout the course. Mandos on 17 and 18. Short tees for FA2/FA3 on 2, 3, 5, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18. Reminder that for hole 5, any player who is worried about not making the water carry can always elect to 1) proceed to the drop zone with a penalty stroke without actually teeing off, or 2) concede the hole and move on.

Timberwolf Championship Loop 1-4, 6-7, 16-18: Water is OB throughout the course. Mando on 2. Short tees for FA2/FA3 on 2 and 18 (Drop Zone). We are skipping 5 (the short one in the woods). After 4, walk through the parking area to hole 6. If you are consulting the map on the website, the numbers are off because hole 5 isn’t listed on the course level map.

Cash Payouts and Awards
The team cash payouts goes to the Team Captain to be distributed equally throughout their team. Each member of the winning team will receive $140. Each member of the second place team will receive $70. Each member of the third place team will receive $30. These payouts will be in cash for all divisions and will be available immediately upon the conclusion of the event. Please take your payouts before you leave!!

The 1st place team will receive the traveling trophy and be responsible for Coordinating the trophy’s engraving.
