About this tournament
1 round of play
Long shots with tight OB ropes? Muni is now the most Winthropy course we have in town...so why not have a USDGC doubles qualifier there? This the the LAST possible day to qualify this year, so if you're interested in the main event this is your last chance!
This is a one round bring-your-own-partner best shot (captain's choice) doubles tournament.
Each player will receive a USDGC Doubles stamped premium plastic Innova disc.
The top teams in the MA1 and FA1 divisions will receive invites to the USDGC Amateur Doubles Championship event held in Rock Hill, SC at Winthrop Gold and Camp Canaan on Oct 3-5 (the week before USDGC).
Layouts TBD once the course is open to public play and we receive player feedback (input welcome!). Layout to be finalized by 8/10.
Due to the nature of a flex start, any ties for bid-earning positions will be broken in the following order:
-Fewest bogeys taken during the round (double bogeys count as two!)
-(if still tied) Lower back 9 score
-(if still tied) Better score on 18 (if tied continuing on backwards to 17, 16, etc. until there is a discrepancy)
-(if two teams shot the exact same round somehow) I will facetime a cointoss with the two teams (and then still try to convince Innova to let them both in if it's for last bid...)
The number of qualifier spots will depend on the final number of entrants:
MA1:
1-14 Teams = 1 Team qualifies
15-24 Teams = 2 Teams qualify
25+ Teams = 3 Teams qualify
FA1:
1-4 Teams = 1 Team qualifies
5-9 Teams = 2 Teams qualify
10+ Teams – 3 Teams qualify
All players must meet the following criteria to be eligible to compete in the USDGC Amateur Doubles Main event:
https://usdoubles.com/eligibility/
Players that are NOT eligible to participate in the USDGC Amateur Doubles Main Event are still welcome to play in the qualifier just for fun!
If you are not eligible for USDGC doubles (Pro classification, etc) you are welcome to register, receive a disc, and compete in the event-- please just register in a non-eligible division (BLUE for Blue tees, RED for red tees-- your choice). Your finishing position will not be considered when awarding USDGC Doubles bids.
The cost per team is $40.
This cost includes a USDGC Doubles stamped premium Innova disc as well as Muni greens fees.
Any proceeds will be donated to WNC High School Disc Golf.
Scoring for this event will take place on uDisc events, as the round will not be PDGA sanctioned (to keep costs down).
Players interested in booking a tee time to play a practice round at Asheville Muni can do so here (the course opens for public play on 8/1): https://asheville-golf-course-disc-golf.book.teeitup.com/
