Can Am Cup Match Play Tournament Rules

Rosters must be submitted two weeks before the captains meeting (Sept. 1 deadline) to insure roster eligibility. Team entry fee must be paid before the tournament begins.

Roster positions: Open 1, Open 2, Master (age 40+), Woman, Amateur 1, Amateur 2 (Ams may never have accepted PDGA tournament cash).

Teams may also designate up to two alternates at captain’s meeting. Teams can substitute up to two eligible roster players during the tournament, but only at the beginning of a new match. Once a player is substituted for they may not return to play more matches. Teams may not move players between roster positions.

Pool play: 9-hole matches against same roster players from other teams in your pool. Earn a team point for winning more holes in match than opponent. Earn a ½ point for team for a tie.

NEW THIS YEAR: matches that are over before the nine holes are finished are not necessary to complete. Scores for matches are reported by the winning player as the number of holes up and the number of holes remaining in the nine-hole match when the match was closed out. Thus, Player A who is up by two holes with only one hole remaining reports the win as 2up and 1. Player B was “dormie” at the beginning of the eighth hole as they needed to win the last two holes to salvage a tie in the match.

Pool standings determination: first criteria -- total team points earned.
First tiebreaker: head to head results.
Second tiebreaker: total number of holes left in matches won by team.
Third tiebreaker: total number of matches won by team.
Fourth tiebreaker: fewest number of holes left in matches lost by team.

Semi-Final: Top team of Pool A plays second place team from Pool B, and top team from Pool B plays second place team from Pool A in 9 hole matches that cannot end in a tie, ie. played sudden death.

Final Match: Winners of semi-finals play 9-hole matches that cannot end in a tie for the Gold medals. Losers of semi-finals play 9-hole matches that cannot end in a tie for the Bronze medals.
