About this tournament

History
Best of City is the oldest disc golf competition in Indianapolis, first held in 1987 at the city’s only course at the time, George Washington Park. The mission was simple: crown the best player in the city and award them with one year’s worth of bragging rights. The competition became a membership drive for the nascent Indy Disc Golf Club, and a cool trophy was made. In the 36 years since then, only 11 players have had their names inscribed upon the trophy: Al “Speedy” Guerrero (5x), Jerry Suiter (5x), Jim Trueblood (11x), James Collins (2x), Eric “Monty” Walker (7x), Shaun Crosbie, Andrew Cornwell, Matt Lewis, Payton Staman (3x), Kevin Gillon, and Ryan Weeks.
Details, Membership Pitch
Best of City 2025 will be contested over two rounds at the city’s two oldest disc golf courses: first, 18 holes at Washington and then 24 holes at Brookside. Entry to this event is included in the $10 annual Indy Disc Golf Club membership, and players will also have the opportunity during registration to renew their membership for 2026, which gets them into Match Play Championships in Spring ’26, Best of City in Fall ’26, and free CTP contests at all our leagues next year.
Your $10 annual membership helps us pay for the liability insurance needed to organize events like leagues and tournaments in Indy Parks.
Schedule
Mandatory player check-in from 9:00-9:45 AM at the Washington Park shelter. Walk-ups are welcome during this period; however, registering in advance helps us get everybody out on the course faster. Player meeting at 9:45 AM. Hole assignments available on a physical board at the shelter following the player meeting. Round 1 tees at 10:00 AM. Round 2 will start approximately ~ 1 hour after Round 1 concludes. Hole assignments for Round 2 will be available on a physical board at the shelter near Holes #6/#7 at Brookside. You MUST notify event staff if you are dropping from the event in between rounds.
Divisions
Best of City has traditionally been contested as one division. However, after feedback from Club members, we have split the event into two fields, essentially an upper and a lower division: “Professional” and “Amateur.” MA1 or MA2 players are encouraged to play in the Professional division, despite their PDGA classification. This is an unsanctioned, trophy-only event, with the main reward being bragging rights relative to your peers. The trophy is awarded to first place in the Professional division. There is no trophy for the Amateur division.

Side Contests
For those who like to gamble, the optional $5 cash CTP contest will be divided between two pools on a hole at Washington and a hole at Brookside.
