About this tournament
1 round of play
We are very pleased to be able to provide sanctioned play in Alberta in 2020. Of course, sanctioning at this time is conditional. There will be no Tournament Central.
In short, this will be two rounds of doubles disc golf with digital cash outs and legacy trophy awesome for the Open and Masters Divisions and Trophy Awards for the Amateur Division.
COVID 19 INFORMATION++
Your safety and well being extremely important to us so we will be adhering to the requirements outlined by the Alberta Government:
https://www.alberta.ca/coronavirus-info-for-albertans.aspx
We will also be implementing the Requirements and Best Practices for PDGA Sanctioned Play During COVID-19 as outlined in the document linked below (where applicable):
https://www.pdga.com/pdga-documents/tour-documents/requirements-and-best-practices-pdga-sanctioned-play-during-covid-19
TWO ROUNDS OF 18 HOLE DISC GOLF ON BOTH THE EAST AND WEST SIDE COURSES at Aspen Meadows.
TEAM NAMES +++
If you're smarter than Lobo you'll likely be able to sneak in something inappropriate. If there is someone smarter than Lobo who points it out to Lobo that's just going to be embarrassing. Ultimately we can edit your Team Name on DiscGolfScene at any time. Just don't make more work for the Tournament Staff.
EVENT HATS Option +++
We've added an option for you to order an Event Hat. PLEASE NOTE, THESE HATS WILL BE AVAILABLE OCT 31. We will distribute the hats at the Lloyd Park Flex event on October 31. If you won't be attending that event we will arrange to have it delivered to you. This is a little last minute, but we've been a little last minute with this entire season.
You can come back to your registration options up until Oct 5 to order your hat. You can also choose to order two hats or just a single hat. If you're only ordering one hat I don't like your team cohesion. I'm worried about you two.
OCTOBER 5th is CUTOFF FOR HATS!
ACE POT Option +++
Team Ace Pots means everybody wins. We're not going to run the risk of you missing the chance to out-CTP someone from another team. Additionally, if you or your team mate gets an ace it will be that much sweeter.
PDGA Sanctioning +++
The event is a PDGA Sanctioned XC event. “X” events are those events that have non-regulation targets or special rules, such as Doubles/Team play. The “X” stands for experimental. Sanctioning provides us the very important event insurance and a more formal environment for your competitive adventures.
There is some nuance and complexity to the rating and points system so I’ll direct you to this link(https://www.pdga.com/divisions-ratings-points) to learn more about that. "X" events will not earn player ratings for competitors.
DIVISIONS +++
Open - MPO
Masters - MP40/MP50/MP60 mixed
Amateur - MA1
WHAT ABOUT MIXED?
Just enter your team into the appropriate division. Add a note indicating your team would like to play Mixed. There will be modified rules for Mixed groups
OPEN +++
We do have a legacy trophy that will feature this years AB Provincial Doubles. We'll get all the engraving done (and last years) when Dr.Pepper returns if from his teams win in 2019.
Your payouts will be sent to the email address that sent your initial team payment.
MASTERS +++
We don't have a legacy trophy at this point, but I reckon we'll have one for next year. So that's temping. Being the first name on the new trophy! How about you buy the trophy too! Fine, we'll buy the trophy.
Your payouts will be sent to the email address that sent your initial team payment.
AMATEURS +++
This is a True Amateur event. Your team entry fee reflects that. Our trophy awards will be personalized/team gear produced by a soon to be informed Treeline Disc Golf Apperal after the event.
FORMAT/SCHEDULE +++
+++ Best Throw - Round 1 (9:00 am)
• The format for the first round is Best Throw where both partners may throw from the tee.
• After the tee-off, the team determines which partner’s lie to throw from. Both players may throw from the chosen lie. Repeat this until the team holes out.
+++ Alternate Shot - Round 2 (12:00 pm)
• The format for the second round is Alternate Shot where the tee shot alternates between the two team members.
• After the Tee off, the partners alternate shots.
• Using the wrong partner’s shot on any hole is considered a misplay and a two-throw penalty will be assessed for that hole.
FAQs
+++ Modified Mixed Doubles +++
Round 1 Modified Best Throw:
• The format for the first round is Modified Best Throw where both partners may throw from the tee, but at no time may a single partner’s tee throw be used for three consecutive holes. If one partner’s tee throw has been used for two consecutive holes, the other partner’s tee shot MUST be used on the next hole.
• After the tee-off, both partners make the next throw and the rest of the hole is completed using regular Best Throw format where the team determines which partner’s lie to throw from.
• The scorecard contains an area to easily keep track of which partner’s tee throw was used on each hole.
• Using the same partner’s tee throw on a third consecutive hole is considered a misplay on that hole and a two-throw penalty will be assessed
Round 2 Alternate Shot:
• The format for the second round is Alternate Shot where the tee shot alternates between the two team members.
• After the Tee off, the partners alternate shots.
• Using the wrong partner’s shot on any hole is considered a misplay and a two-throw penalty will be assessed for that hole.
We hope to see at least two teams compete in this division and ideally three. If we don't have a minimum field this division will close.
+++ Why are you limiting divisions? +++
When you double up you're going to play at a higher level as it is. This is the Provincial Championships. We'll determine the Top Open Team, the Top Masters Team and the Top Amatuer Team.
We appreciate our amateur divisions want to be more involved in these events. This will be the first year we sanction the AB Provincial Doubles. Similarly, the Falconer’s Cup Team Challenge was sanctioned. Another first for Alberta. We're building a foundation so we have the experience and resources to expand the offerings in Alberta. Trust us, the Amateur community won't be left behind.
We can organize the Amateur Doubles/Team Challenges in 2021. 2020 has our testing kitchen year. We’ll be better able to accommodate more divisions (with separate events) in the near future.
+++ Can I come help with the event?
Yes. Omg, please do. Reach out to Lobo - CCMcBurney directly. We'd like Spotters, Water/Sanitation Station monitors, Parking directors, and more. We don't expect 100 people, but we do want to give our competitors a great experience. Come be a part of that.
Volunteers will be accommodated some sweet FREE hat action. Don't miss out on protecting your dome this winter in a Tree Line hat. It's going to be gorgeous all through 2021 I almost should have got visors.
++ Can I sponsor this event?
Oh my goodness, of course. Let us know how you'd like to pitch in. We will take donations in cash, product and in some cases foodstuffs! We're not sure if we're going to offer a meal at the event, but it sort of makes sense to do so. If we can muster some sponsorship for that we'll see if the Batsmoker can sort us out.
Don't let us keep you from offering us money, we'll make sure the Open and Masters divisions get a little bump and the amateurs get some team prizes for CTPs or side games during the event. Any and all cash that is donated will go directly to the event and/or Aspen Meadows Disc Golf Course (AKA Ron 'Rudy' Falconer and the Bearberry Boys)
++ Facilities
The one thing I can assure you of is that we are rocking out-houses for this event. If you have a delicate disposition to start don't say you weren't warned ahead of time. I'm making it sound worse than it is so you are pleasantly surprised.
++ Water Stations
We're going to expect people to bring their own vessels. We'll have large portable water bottles that staff will operate to fill those vessels to keep you hydrated.
TLDR version - We'll have water. Bring a bottle.
