About this tournament

WELCOME to the 41st Annual Minnesota State Championships!!!

The 41st annual Minnesota State Championship will take place between two classic courses in Minnesota - Oakwood Park in Cottage Grove and CP Adams in Hastings. This year's format will include two rounds on Saturday for all participants - one on each course. Pools will be split between the two courses and switch after the lunch break.

Following the positive feedback from the format last year, the Minnesota State Championship will again be implementing a cut. Only the top 40% of pro fields and top 45% of AM fields will make it to Sunday's final round. That round will be played at CP Adams. Making the cut means you made the payouts!

PDGA Live Scoring
As always, official scores will be kept at www.pdga.com/score
The access code is: mnstate

Tournament Format
All divisions will play two rounds on Saturday - one round at Oakwood Park in Cottage Grove, MN and one at CP Adams in Hastings, MN. Order of play is posted below. After Saturday’s rounds there will be a cut to reduce the field size to the payout line. All open fields will be cut to 40%, and all amatuer fields will be cut to 45%. If there is a division of two, both players will make the cut. The remaining players will play one round Sunday at CP Adams. Round 1 will start promptly at 9:00am on Saturday. Round 2 will start approximately one hour and 20 minutes after the last card has confirmed their score from round 1. This is to allow for the typical one hour break plus travel time. Check the PDGA website and Facebook event page for the start time and starting hole of your second round. Round 3 will start at 10:00am on Sunday. Schedule can be found on Disc Golf Scene as well.

The order of play for each pool on Saturday is listed below:
Pool A (MPO, MP40, MP50, MP60, MA40): Oakwood, CP Adams
Pool B (FA1, FA2, FA3, MA1, MA2): CP Adams, Oakwood

Check-In
Player check-in is from 7:30-8:30am at the starting course for your pool. Amatuer players can pick up their player packs, which includes a Discraft disc with the MN State Championships stamp, a Cosmic Sonic courtesy of Gotta Go Gotta Throw, and a free membership/renewal to the MFA. More information on that below. Also at check-in everyone will have the opportunity to sign up for the optional ace pools. More information on that below as well. Finally, if you have any questions about the course, check-in is the time to ask.

Layouts
Maps and distances are attached to this email, and will also be posted on the Facebook event page. Below are some more details about the individual layouts.

CP Adams
All divisions will be playing the same layout. Long tees. If you are unfamiliar with the course, I've attached a course map to this email. OB information is as follows:

Hole 4 - Over fence or missed mando, proceed to Drop Zone.
Hole 6, 7, 8 - On OR across path, play from where it went out.
Hole 17, 18 - On OR across road, play from where it went out.
Hole 3, 4, 9, 14, 16 - Missed mandos, proceed to drop zone.

Oakwood
All divisions will be playing the same layout. We will playing to the long baskets (with blue band) on holes 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16) and the only/short basket (with red band) on everything else. OB information is as follows:

Hole 1 - Island Green: An initial throw beyond the inbounds fairway must come-to-rest on the Island Green to be able to mark on the Island Green (this rule still applies if the initial throw is abandoned.) If the throw comes-to-rest OB, the next throw is from the Drop Zone with a penalty throw. All throws made from the Drop Zone or the Island Green itself, use normal OB rules. (We applied for a waiver to use an island green, and that waiver was approved. This language is directly from the PDGA.)
Hole 11, 15 - Missed mandos, proceed to drop zone.
Hole 3, 18 – Surrounded by concrete or pavement.

This information will also be included in the PDGA Digital Scorecard, and on the Facebook event page.

Tournament Central
Because we are split between two courses, there will be no overall tournament scoreboard to review at each location. I’m sure most people are used to this by now, as it has become the standard even at single locations. Please go to www.pdga.com/live to look at scores and www.pdga.com/tour/event/57992 to check next round times AND starting holes.

Round 1 Hole Assignments
Hole assignments for round one will be posted at www.pdga.com/tour/event/57992. The order of the courses you will play is already set and listed above, but the round 1 hole assignments are not posted earlier because player drops and subsequent additions from the waitlist continue to change groupings. Regardless of when you check these hole assignments, please make sure to check again on Saturday morning after the players meeting before heading to your hole. I would also advise you to refresh the page, as I’ve heard of incidents at other tournaments where old information was cached in phones and updated information was not displayed.

Online Scoring
All official scores will be done through PDGA Digital Scoreboard. If you need an overview, you can read up at http://bit.do/pdgascoring and when it’s time to go, simply go to www.pdga.com/score to get started. The access code is: mnstate. These scores will be official and authoritative. That is, if you confirm an incorrect score, that is the same as turning in an incorrect physical scorecard and you would be penalized. You are now allowed to have multiple people keep score at the same time and the system will automatically alert you if there are differences. This is a great way to avoid incorrect scores. Most importantly don’t forget to click confirm on your round at the end - simply entering the scores of the last hole is not enough. If this is your first time with PDGA Digital Scoreboard, please keep an open mind and try it out. It has had great reviews from people playing my tournaments and helps everything run much faster and smoother.

Sunday One Round C-tier
Gray Duck Disc Golf will be hosting a one round C-tier called “States Revenge at Oakwood” on Sunday morning at Oakwood. Short player meeting at 8:45am and tee time at 9:00am. Because we want to make this available to anyone who didn’t make the cut, registration will not be open until Saturday at 6:00pm. Please register right after cuts are determined if you are interested, as we will also be opening this up to anyone else in the area.

Ace Pools
There will be three optional ace pools ($1, $5, and $20) available. Sign up for the ace pools during check in before the first round starts on Saturday. If an ace pool is not hit, there will be a throw off for the money after round 3 on Sunday.

MFA
The Minnesota Frisbee Association and Gotta Go Gotta Throw are teaming up with the Minnesota State Championships to offer you a FREE membership/renewal to the MFA. This membership will last for the remainder of 2022 and will allow you to vote in the upcoming approval of the bylaws and election of the next board. However, in order to process your membership, we need some information! Please go to the following link and provide your information if you’d like this free membership:

https://forms.gle/UnqSuFT5E4s2DAuR6

After new memberships are processed, you will be sent your MFA number.

Payouts
Payouts will be available on site only. Amateur payouts will be available through Treasures of the Forest, and CCO. Payouts can be split between these vendors however you want when used on site. Payouts will be done fast, so please stick around if possible. If you need to leave prior to payouts you must arrange for a voucher from ONE of the vendors before doing so.

Withdrawal
If you need to withdraw from the tournament, please go into Disc Golf Scene and do so immediately. All PDGA rules for refunds will be followed. At this stage, refunds are only possible if someone is found to take your place.

Refund policy

Withdrawals and Refunds will follow the policies outlined in the PDGA Competition Manual, found at https://www.pdga.com/rules/competition-manual/103

The $5 waitlist fee is non-refundable. If you were charged full price but ended up on the waitlist because of the speed in which the tournament filled, you will be refunded the difference until a spot becomes available.
