About this tournament
– Welcome –
Welcome to the tournament registration page for Indy Disc Golf Club’s (IDGC) 32nd Annual Wild Turkey Shootout, to be held Saturday, December 6th at the ever-popular George Washington Park disc golf course. The Shootout is the first stop on IDGC’s annual charity event series. Last year, we raised $5,000 for the St. Vincent de Paul food bank, located just down the road from Hole #6’s tee pad. We strongly believe that disc golf is equal parts sport and community, and, with your help this year, we will continue the tradition of being a positive impact within the greater Indianapolis community – over $50K donated to fight food insecurity since 2003!
– Major Details –
A gobblin’ good time: the Wild Turkey Shootout is a charity-focused, non-sanctioned, non-rated, single-day, two-round, 48-hole, BYOP-best-shot-doubles format event with special rules and challenges in-play. Tee off for Round 1 will be 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 6th. Each round will consist of a 24-hole layout featuring 6 temporary holes. There will be a one-hour break between rounds, and the same layout will be played for both rounds.
– Fees and Payouts –
• AM: $40 per Team – $20 to payouts + $20 to SVdP food bank.
• PRO: $50 per Team – $30 to payouts + $20 to SVdP food bank.
When you register your team for the event, please use the email associated with each player’s PayPal address. If you qualify for a cash prize and do not provide the email associated with your PayPal account during registration, you must notify event staff prior to leaving the event to arrange for an alternative payment method. Please note that there will be no trophies or player-pack items for this event.
– Minor Details –
Tournament headquarters will be the shelter near Hole #1. Water and some snack items will be available for players all day at Tourney HQ. The IDGC soup kitchen will be back in action for this event and have food available at Tourney HQ between rounds. Please note that there will not be a portable restroom available at Tourney HQ for this event.
Parking is available at several locations around the park, including the disc golf parking lot next to Hole #1. You should expect this parking lot to fill. When this lot is filled, you may NOT park on the grass next to it. You must find an alternative parking area and expect to walk from there to Tourney HQ and/or your starting hole.
– Refunds –
When a refund is requested, Indy Disc Golf Club general policy is to refund 100% of registration fees collected – no handling fees, no partial refunds, no deadline prior to the event to request a refund. However, since the Shootout is a charity fundraiser, Indy Disc Golf Club will refund all except for the $10/player food bank donation portion of the entry fee.
– Layouts, Scorekeeping –
All players will play a 24-hole layout featuring 6 temporary holes at the George Washington Park disc golf course. Each division will play the same layout for each round. A layout graphic has been published in the "Pictures" tab, and the digital layouts are available on UDisc. MPO and MA1 will play from the long tee pad on Hole #12, and to the long basket locations on Holes #1, #5, #11, and #14. All other divisions will play from the short tee pad on Hole #12, and to the short basket locations on Holes #1, #5, #11, and #14.
After playing Hole #4, all divisions will proceed to play the temp Holes #A-F, and then proceed to play Hole #5. Tee areas are marked with flags and yard signs and also available on the UDisc map.
Score will be kept using UDisc. Please charge your phones and have your app updated.
– Special Rules & Challenges –
All special rules subject to change. For all challenges, teams must announce their intent to attempt before throwing any shot on a hole. For all power ups/abilities, teams must announce their intent to use before attempting any additional throws. For example, every team gets one helping of "Mashed Taters" per round, by which they may count a hole as complete if both of their throws from any one lie hit the basket (not including pole beneath). They must announce their intent to use the ability before attempting any additional throw (not three holes later when they remembered that they could have done that).
Shoot the Moon (Required Challenge)
Round 1 Only
One Attempt per Player
• Each player on a team must choose one hole for which the player will play alone without help from their partner. The team must announce their intention to “Shoot the Moon” on a hole prior to either member of the team attempting a throw on the hole.
• If the player attempting the challenge scores less than Par on the hole, two advantages are unlocked:
(1) The player who successfully completed the challenge receives one Mulligan that the player may use during the remainder of Round 1. This awarded Mulligan cannot be given to or used by the other player on the team. This awarded Mulligan cannot be used during Round 2.
(2) During the remainder of Round 1, the player’s team may count one shot (air or skip) that hits the basket (does not include the portion of pole that extends beneath the cage) as a completed hole. This advantage may be used for a throw made by either player on the team. The team must announce its intention to use this advantage and thereby complete the hole prior to that team attempting another throw on the hole. Scoring a hole-in-one with this advantage does not count for the Ace pool.
• If the player attempting the challenge scores equal to or greater than Par on the hole, then their partner must Wash the Dishes.
(1) The partner plays the next hole alone.
(2) If they score less than par, then you gain 1 Mulligan that can be used any time during the remainder of Round 1.
(3) Any "Wash the Dishes" attempt does not also count as a "Shoot the Moon" attempt.
Pass the Peas (Required Challenge)
Round 1 Only - One Attempt per Team
• Complete a hole using discs from your partner's bag. Pick a hole for which each member of the team may only use discs from the other's bag. For the tee shot disc you choose from your partner's bag, the disc must have previously been used by your partner for a tee shot earlier in the round.
Picky Eater (Required Challenge)
Round 1 Only - One Attempt per Team
• Complete a hole using only one disc per player. Pick a hole for which each member of the team may only use one of their respective discs for all throws until the hole is complete. If one disc is lost prior to completing the hole, then the team member with the unlost disc must complete the hole by themselves. If both discs are lost, re-tee with a +1 stroke penalty with no disc restrictions for the remainder of the hole.
Mashed Taters (Optional Ability)
Round 1 & Round 2 - One Available per Team per Round
• From any lie, if the shot attempts of both team members hit the basket (does not include the portion of pole that extends beneath the cage), the team may count the hole as complete using their helping of “Mashed Taters.” The team must announce its intention to use this ability and thereby complete the hole prior to that team attempting another throw on the hole. Limited to one use per team per round.
Turkey Leftovers (Optional Ability)
Round 2 Only - One Available per Team
• Did both you and your partner throw terrible tee shots? Take the other team’s leftover drive. During Round 2, after all players have thrown tee shots for a hole, your team may choose to abandon its throws and play from one of the other team’s resulting lies, whichever is unused by the other team. Your team must announce its intention to use this ability prior to any team attempting another throw on the hole.
Just Dessert (Optional Ability)
Round 1 & Round 2 - Unlimited Quantity
• Have a cherry on top: for any team, a shot attempt that comes to rest on top of the basket may be considered in the basket and used to complete the hole. The team must announce its intention to use this ability and thereby complete the hole prior to that team attempting another throw on the hole. Unlimited usage. May be used during required challenges.
Wild Turkey (Optional Ability)
Round 2 Only - One Available per Team
• After scoring less than par on any hole, go Turkey Hunting. If you score less than par on the next two holes, gain one extra tee shot on any remaining hole. Either team member may use the extra throw but not both.
Mulligans (Optional - Must Purchase)
Round 2 Only - 1 Available per Player for Purchase
• During event registration, each player has the option of purchasing one Mulligan for $5 that may be used during Round 2 only. All Mulligan proceeds go to the SVdP food bank. A player may use a Mulligan after any throw attempt to re-throw from that lie without incurring a penalty stroke. When a player elects to use a Mulligan, the previous throw is considered abandoned and replaced by the resulting lie of the re-throw.
