About this tournament
1 round of play
Welcome to the 2024 Helix Sun Bowl. This is a fun charity event similar to Ice Bowls of the past. However, this year's event is to help raise funds for permanent basket installation at Palm Royale. We are so excited to have the first permanent 18-hole disc golf course in the Coachella Valley. Part of our deal with the HOA is that we are covering all basket installation costs and the initial purchase of the baskets. The Sun Bowl will help us cover some of these costs and support the continued growth of disc golf in the Valley.
LIke the past few years, we will be playing 24 holes on our temporary disc golf course at Sunrise Park in Palm Springs. This is a 12-hole layout, so each group will play through the course twice. Course maps and information available on UDisc, though some details are subject to change for this event.
Because it is only a 12-hole layout, we are limiting the field to 60 players with a max of 5 per card. Pre-registration is preferred to ensure your spot and to help us be better organized the day of the event. We will accept walk-up registration if there is room.
This is not a PDGA-sanctioned event and is meant to be a lot of fun while helping our local disc golf community. There will be no cash prizes or payouts other than the optional ace pot. The overall event winner will receive the 2024 Helix Sun Bowl trophy.
Entry fee is $20. This will buy you into the event and give you 5 mulligan tickets to start. After that, you can purchase as many mulligans as you want for $1 each, or 25 mulligans for an additional $20.
Please note there will not be any player pack items, but hopefully enough raffle prizes and other goodies to make it worth your while. Of course, it's all about supporting a good cause (more disc golf in the Valley).
This is a fun, shorter course with plenty of birdie and ace run opportunities. You pre-purchase some or all of your mulligans on the registration page, as well, or you can pay cash the day of the event. If you use more mulligans than you have pre-paid for, you will simply pay for the additional ones after the round. Each mulligan ticket purchased will also be a raffle ticket. We'll be giving away plenty of cool discs, Helix Disc Golf swag (including a new NinjaPak backpack) and other prizes. Raffle prize donations are welcomed and encouraged. If you have any disc golf items, gift cards, professional services or non-disc-golf goods you want to donate to the raffle, please bring them to the event. We appreciate your generosity.
Mulligans can be used on any shot during the round. However, if you use any mulligans, you must take the last throw made. You cannot just pick your best shot.
Ace pot is optional at $5 per player. To claim the full pot, an ace must be hit on the first throw of any given hole. Multiple natural aces will split the full pot. Mulligan aces will count as a 1 on your scorecard, but will only make you eligible for half the ace pot (and only if no natural aces are hit). Multiple mulligan aces (with no natural aces) will split half the ace pot with the other half going to charity. If nobody hits an ace during the round, we will hold a post-round CTP for half the pot. The other half will go toward the charity donation.
