South Tahoe Disc Golf Association (STDGA) is excited about the prospect of being able to conduct the “King of the Lake” (KOTL) disc golf tournament this year. Due to the pandemic, we were unable to put on the tournament last year. Conducting a tournament this year will still be a challenge for our club. If everything goes as planned, we will be able to have a great disc golf tournament this year.

The 2021 “King of the Lake” disc golf tournament will be a three day tournament that will encompass the finest disc golf courses from in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin. The challenge for our club is getting approval from all the governing agencies involved. At the present time we have not received approval from all the necessary agencies. Our club will be governed by the decision of the different entities that grant permission for the use of the courses. The courses are located in four different counties and two different states.

The 2021 KOTL disc golf tournament will be held Friday, June 18th thru Sunday, June 20th. The KOTL will host up to 300 competitors this year. Players will be competing to be crowned as King of the lake, or Queen, in their division. Competitors will play one course each day with an assigned tee time. The courses that will be played and on which days they will be played, is still yet to be determined. There will be a complete schedule posted on Disc Golf Scene by Monday, May 17th at the latest. We hope to receive approval from the governing agencies before then. We will get the schedule to the players as soon as everything has been confirmed.

We will not be able to have our usual raffle this year. When registering; players will have an option to buy raffle tickets. We will fill out your tickets for you. We will have 20 different prize packages with the usual prizes; discs, shirts, hats and a basket. Raffle tickets will be drawn on Saturday night and prizes will be handed out to the winners when they check-in for play on Sunday. Players will also be able to buy raffle tickets on Friday and Saturday when checking-in for their rounds. Just so there are no surprises, we want to let everyone know that trophies will be awarded to the first place competitor in each division only. There must be at least three competitors to complete a division. If divisions are not completed with at least three players by May 16th; players in an incomplete division will be asked to move to another division or receive a refund. The spots that were reserved in the uncompleted divisions will be released to the other divisions with players on the waiting lists. The complete tournament schedule will be posted on Disc Golf Scene by Monday, May 17th. Please make sure you know the directions to all the courses on your division's schedule. Any cancellations after May 30th, 2021 at 6:00pm will only receive a $70.00 refund. There will be no refunds for cancellations after June 13th, 2021 at 6:00pm.

All COVID-19 protocols devised for safe disc golf play will be adhered to during the tournament. Let’s have a fun and safe disc golf tournament for everyone.
