About this tournament
The 2021 Ice Bowl presented by Lebanon Valley Disc Golf will act like a normal PDGA C-Tier event; however, this event is part of the PDGA Charity Endowment Program, which means that 25% of all entry fees (pro and am after sanctioning fees and event match are squared away) will be donated to the Friends of the Conrad Weiser Homestead. The Friends of the Conrad Weiser Homestead is a 501c3 that is struggling to survive right now because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This group holds multiple events every year at the Conrad Weiser Homestead to offset the costs of the property. Unfortunately, all of those events were cancelled in 2020, and things aren't looking great for 2021. The 40th Conrad Weiser Open was also cancelled; with this money, we hope the Homestead stays alive so the 40th can happen.
Throughout the whole day, I ask everyone to follow safe social distancing practices. That includes wearing masks when asked, using hand sanitizer, keeping your hands off other people's discs or equipment, and avoiding social gatherings as much as possible. Failure to adhere to these rules could result in disqualification from the event.
The schedule shows all important times for the event. Both rounds will be a mixed format of short and long layouts. Amateurs will be receiving a $15 voucher at check-in as their player's pack to redeem at the Lebanon Valley Disc Golf mobile flymart. The top winner in every division will be receiving a special LVDG Ice Bowl trophy/plaque. Open players will be playing for cash which will be distributed via PayPal (if the ace pot is hit, this will also be paid out via PayPal). The top 40% of all open players in every division will be paid out. If there are divisions with less than 3 players, that division will be eliminated and players will be added to a division that fits their skill level.
Electronic scoring will likely be utilized at this event to further practice safe social distancing procedures. All information for this will be shared to players a couple nights before the event with any other useful information, as there will be no player's meeting the morning of the tournament.
Most importantly, this event will be played rain, snow, or shine. Ice Bowls are meant to be arduous, as well as fun. Please keep this in mind before you sign up. One other thing I would like to bring up: since South Hills Park is essentially not operating during the winter months, bathroom facilities will most likely not be open. There is a portable potty on site however, which I will make sure is stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer for your convenience.
The tournament will be capped at 50 players to be in compliance with local regulations. If those regulations lift, I will add more spots.
One final thing to cover: 18 hole sponsorships will be open. Hole sponsorships are $15 and can be added during checkout. If you buy a hole sponsorship, a laminated sign will be hung at a tee sign with your name and a logo if you wish. I have also opened up registration to include just a donation registrant for $10. This registration spot is for people who can't/won't make it to the tourney, but still would like to donate to the Friends of the Conrad Weiser Homestead.
