Good afternoon everyone!
Just sending a couple of notes and reminders before the big day! Please read thoroughly and follow up with me here, text, or Facebook if you have any additional questions!
Check-in: Player check-in will begin at 8:25am and continue until 8:55am. All players MUST check-in no later than 8:55am. There you will be able to pick up your player's pack and should hang out at the practice basket or pavilion until the player's meeting begins at 9am. If you didn't pay $5 at registration for the ace pot but would like to participate tomorrow, please bring $5 cash to give to the TD at check-in.
Player's Packs: We have 42 WGE player's packs from the PDGA for players who registered before our final order was submitted. No sweat though for our later registrants - all players WILL receive a player's pack still! When you check in, the tournament staff will let you know which player's pack we have for you to collect.
IT WILL BE HOT: Please start drinking water TODAY! We will have several refill stations and coolers with water and gatorade around the course, but please dress for the weather and bring sunscreen with you. We will have canopies around the course for shade.
Lunch: The caddy book lists a few food options if needed during the 1 hour lunch break between rounds. However, since all options are pretty far from the course still, it is STRONGLY recommended that you pack a lunch and bring it with you so you can remain on site and be at your tee on time for round 2.
Amenities/Player's Party: There will be plenty of snacks, drinks, fresh fruit, and water around during the tournament rounds. There will also be pizza and soda available once round two wraps up. We will do player awards, CTP prizes, and the free Zuca raffle, so stick around!
True Amateur: As a reminder, this is a True Amateur event. The true spirit of organized amateur athletics is competing in a sport purely for the love of that sport and the act of competition itself. “True Amateur” is the designation used by the Professional Disc Golf Association in reference to those amateur events, or the amateur portion of an event, which promote that true spirit of amateur athletics by presenting only trophies to the top finishers of the tournament rather than a payout in merchandise. Instead, all players in the event receive equal value through their tournament experience due to the tournament amenities that are provided. We will be providing trophies based on the True Amateur trophy guidelines, but we had to order trophies two weeks in advance. With the later sign ups, there are 3 trophies that will be added. These will be ordered and shipped to the winners directly after the event is finalized.
CTP Pools/ Prizes: We made the decision to split divisions into 3 pools so that all levels of skill would have the chance to compete for the fun prizes we will have available. These pools will not affect which layout you play, nor will they impact player ratings at the conclusion of the event.
Event Staff: The event staff (Myself, Debby Anders, and Amy Monahan) are all also competing in Saturday’s event. We will go over provisionals during our player’s meeting, but please note that we will not be available to answer questions or make calls during play. Please take a provisional if the card cannot make a decision, play the shot both ways and note both scores, then find a tournament staff member at the end of your round BEFORE your card finalizes scores.
I want to also say thank you to the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) for the superb maintenance of Graytown Park and supporting this event! They have provided port-a-potties and handwashing stations to us free of charge and cleaned up the course just this week to make for the safest and best tournament experience possible.
Finally, we have many novice players joining us this weekend! This is a great opportunity to learn more about disc golf, make friends in the sport, and support each other. I’m so grateful to everyone participating, and especially grateful to those who have donated their time, equipment, and funds to bring this together!
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I look forward to seeing you all out there.
