Lucas, I don’t know 130 people. Nor would I need to. We only needed 25 or so people to fill the field. And through the first 3 tour events, and feedback from people I’ve talked to in previous years, tour players don’t want to play this event specifically because it’s not sanctioned(I can honestly say I’ve heard this from 30-40 people. And that sentiment seems to be shared among their friends). Or there division isn’t offered. Like it or not Novice has become a viable division for the Wisconsin tour. Novice offers players with a lower skill set to compete with players at their level. Why would a 790 - 830 rated player want to compete against a 870 - 898 rated competitor only to get smoked every tour event they play? It likely pushes these players away from competing. I’m not trying to rock the boat here. Just wanted start a conversation for future consideration. I enjoy this event and Standing Rocks is a awesome course(#1 out of the 112 course I’ve played). So, as a Wisconsin tour event, it would be nice to have more tour competitors play this event. Really, it’s their lose though. I’ve enjoyed this event every time I’ve played it.

Thanks for your concerns and incite. We have a few other events at Standing Rocks this year (chili challenge, trilogy challenge, and potentially some UWSP hosted events) which are unsanctioned and are catered to our local, non-member players. So I actually agree that SRO should be most catered towards those who don't have the opportunity to experience the course regularly (traveling and tour players, especially lower division players). Something to keep in mind is the field is not actually 120 people like the website says. A full field would be 210 competitors. 42 hole course x 5 players per card. I personally disagree with how the lower divisions are considered at SRO. But the TD and I have differing opinions and I wield virtually no influence over the outcome of big picture decisions.

Novice is a PDGA division below recreational. Several people playing Wisconsin tour stops are playing Novice. With the growing popularity of disc golf, novice is good way for people to familiarize themselves with tournament play.It’s unfortunate that people playing this division didn’t get an opportunity to play this great course and have a chance to earn tour points.
