Rally in the Valley Presented By Alvord Polk Inc. Caddie Guide
This Caddie Guide contains the official OB rules, mandatory casual relief areas, and tee assignments for the tournament. While tee signs may display some of this information, this guide takes precedence in the event of any discrepancies.
Casual Relief Areas
Some areas on the course have been marked as casual relief zones per PDGA Rule 806.03. These areas will be identified with pink flags and/or pink stakes.
• Mandatory Casual Relief: Certain marked areas are designated by the TD as mandatory relief zones. If your disc comes to rest in one of these areas, you must take free relief by marking a new lie on the line of play, at the nearest point farther from the basket where both your lie and marker disc are completely outside the relief area. In some cases, a mandatory drop zone may be provided instead.
• Optional Casual Relief: Other marked areas may be designated as optional relief. In these cases, players may choose to play the lie as it lies or take casual relief as described above.
All relief designations (mandatory or optional) will be clarified at the player meeting or noted on the caddy guide.
The 2-meter rule is not in effect.
● Hole 1 – The creek on the left of the fairway is OB. The stream that crosses the fairway right before the green is Mandatory Casual Relief. Please see the hole diagram below.
● Hole 3 – Road and beyond are OB. Please wait for any traffic to pass before throwing. The parking lot is OB. UPDATE (5/15) - Any standing water on Hole 3 may be played as casual relief (not mandatory). Additionally, the muddy area on the fairway marked with pink flags is also designated as casual relief (not mandatory).
● Hole 6 – The island rule IS NOT in effect. There is no penalty for missing the ‘island’.
● Hole 7 – There is a public walking trail that runs along the left side of the fairway, beyond the rough in most areas. The walking trail and beyond are all OB.
● Hole 8 – The creek and beyond are OB.
● Hole 11 – The areas around the steps and the creek bed are Mandatory Casual Relief. For this hole, if your disc lands in the marked casual relief area, you must proceed directly to the designated drop zone, the Bronze Tee. Standard relief is not allowed. Please see the hole diagram below.
● Hole 13 – The creek and beyond are OB.
● Hole 14 – There is a temporary turf tee pad for the Silver Tee. If you are playing the Silver layout, use this tee. The road and beyond are OB.
● Hole 15 – There is a temporary turf tee pad for the Silver Tee. If you are playing the Silver layout, use this tee. The first creek that crosses the fairway is Mandatory Casual Relief. The road, the second creek behind the basket, and beyond are OB. Please see the hole diagram below.
● Hole 16 – Roads and beyond are OB.
● Hole 17 – Pool A & C will always play from the Gold Tee. Pool B will always play from the Silver Tee. Roads and parking lot are OB.
● Hole 18 – For this tournament, the island is defined as the area inside the 4x4’s, with the line marked on the INSIDE of the 4x4’s.
o Pool A & C: Anything outside of the island is considered a HAZARD. If your disc lands in the hazard, you'll take 1 penalty stroke and throw from your lie. Any proceeding throw that does not land in the island will also be a hazard with an additional 1 penalty stroke. If your disc lands within the maintenance building fence or the parking lot, traditional OB rules apply: you'll take 1 penalty stroke, and your next throw will be from the last point your disc was in bounds.
o Pool B: Anything short of the dirt road is SAFE. Anything on the basket side of the dirt road, including the dirt road, is HAZARD. Any throw that does not land in the safe zone or the island will be a hazard with an additional 1 penalty stroke. If your disc lands within the maintenance building fence or the parking lot, traditional OB rules apply: you'll take 1 penalty stroke, and your next throw will be from the last point your disc was in bounds.
