Thanks to all the competitors who trudged through the Labyrinth for two rounds this past weekend. It was a tough weekend with some strange conditions and weather, that's for sure.
Personally, I can say I've never seen the lake so high. That made for some interesting play and some adjustments on the fly, and we appreciate all of your patience while we worked through this. This was our first trial (and error) with Tee Times, and I can say it was a challenge and a definite learning experience. Again, thanks for your patience on Day 1 and then again on Day 2 as we had to make adjustments on the fly with Day 2 drops and other issues. But were able to increase the pace of play and not have as many and as long backups on the dreaded hole 15, so I feel that was at least a success.

Finalized and updated results are posted. Congrats to all the winners and all of you who placed. All Professional payouts have been sent. They were sent to the same Paypal address used during registration. Please let us know if there is any issues.

And for anyone who helped along the way with this event, be it Mel, Scott, any of our spotters or anyone who helped load and unload or set up or anything like that, THANK YOU!!!!

There's still an issue with the later group where it spaces out the groups 30 minutes at one point. For the last 4 groups to tee off, here's the timing:

FA1 -- 2:30
FA2 -- 2:40 (site shows 3:10 PM)
MA4 Lead Card -- 2:50 (site shows 3:20)
MA4 / MA3 - 3:00 (site shows 3:00)

If these groups can be ready to tee off at the times posted here and not the PDGA site, we will have them go. So if possible, please use these times to help us keep the day moving along.

Please note tee time increments have been increased by 10 minutes to allow for a little more time between cards. Hopefully this and a shorter layout keeps the day moving along quicker. Also, all of the ordering by divisions was kept the same, but cards were shuffled in order of score from yesterday.

There will be no Player's Meeting tomorrow. Please check in at least 15 minutes before your tee time and be ready at hole 1 area by 5 minutes before. Payouts will happen closer to the parking lot and will be set up so that as each division finishes, they can have their payouts / awards.

Also, please note the following:

DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS TOMORROW ALONG THE ROAD OR NEAR ANY AREA BY THE COURSE!!!

The Park Manager complained and asked that we park up along the service round instead of the grass areas along the main park road. The other option is to car pool when possible. There's also a large lot by the ski chalet that is down the first left off the main park road. This is a good option for anybody who wants to meet at the course and carpool from that sublot. It's only 1 minutes away by car.

With the forecast as is and the standing water on the Island, we have made the decision to go ahead and remove the Island pin from play on Saturday. This will change the par from 70 to 69. The PDGA live scoring will be updated for this layout change.

As for Sunday, we will make that call in the morning. Hopefully the rain isn't very persistent today and tomorrow and it gets a chance to dry out a little bit. The call will be made for Sunday's round between 8 and 8:30 AM Sunday morning and will be communicated to players via posts here and at check in.

The only change here from the earlier post is for Hole 2 when playing the Island. The rule has been updated so that if a player does not land safely in bounds on the Island, they have the option from throwing along the shore where the disc crossed the OB line or to use the concrete tee pad near the bridge. This is based on course conditions and footing and will be the players choice.

PLAYERS' MEETING DETAILS

The Friends of Punderson would like to thank all the players for supporting our course and events. We take a lot of passion and pride in everything Punderson, and we hope it shows. Our group is comprised solely of volunteers that do everything from coursework like mowing and trimming to running events and leagues. Your support of our events like this helps us improve the course and allows us to continue make this one of the top courses in Northeast Ohio. Proceeds from our events can be seen by the players in things like the newer bridges and draining improvements to the course, including the culverts and addition of the crushed concrete in some of the muddier spots. We have more things planned, so we really do appreciate all your support and hope you can also reap the benefits of that support and our hard work for years to come.

This is event is PDGA sanctioned B-Tier using Tee Times with 1 round a day. Tee times will be posted around noon on Friday. But please be aware adjustments will be made so please be sure to check Friday evening and again Saturday morning to unsure you have your correct tee time. By 8:30 AM all things should be finalized for any last minute drops or division changes. There is a "Tee Time Schedule" posted below that gives a general idea of the window to which you will be teeing off. Please note that this could be slightly adjusted if division counts change. But that should be very close to the time windows used for each division. Tee times begin at 9:00 AM and go through about 2 PM. Sunday should use the same start times, but may have some adjustments based on pace of play. Groups will be reshuffled for the Sunday rounds in order of the scoring. Tee times for Sunday should be posted around 8 PM on Saturday. But as with Saturday's rounds, it will be important to check again in the morning, as some players may drop for the other round.

PDGA Live scoring will be utilized, and paper scorecards will also be given to each group to use for either official copy or backup. The code for PDGA Live scoring is: PUN21
The scoring app should also have the OBs for each hole, in addition to the distance and indication of short or long pins where applicable.

OBs will be reposted after this post and made a sticky at the top of the Comments string for reference. There will also be paper copies that include all applicable OBs and Special Rules, including for the Hole 2 Island Pin, Hole 3 Platform Tee, and Hole 4. If any doubts, please take a Provisional Shot and a photo and we will clarify and update scoring if needed. Please note that OBs may be modified the day of the event based on current conditions. If player safety may be at risk, we will adjust accordingly. This may include changing OBs of roped areas along Pine Lake to surrounded by water. This will be communicated to groups upon check-in if necessary.

Check-in will be located near the Hole 1 Tee. We will have canopies set up and players will check-in and receive the OB sheets and any specific updates on layouts / OBs. PLEASE CHECK IN AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR TEE TIME!!!! Amateur player's will have the option of getting their player's pack either before or after the round on Saturday. This is so players who do not want to walk back to their car do not have to. If a player would like to buy in on the $5 Ace Fund (details posted as a "sticky" below), they will need to do it during check-in before they tee off for round 1. We will have spotters on the Island and on Hole 15 throughout the rounds, in addition to some help on hole 1 as well. This should help keep the pace of play going and keep tee times on schedule.

The Format is as follows:

Saturday:
All Professional Men and Women, MA1, MA40, MA50 -- Blues to Long with Island and Platform (Par 70)
MA2, MA3, FA1, FA2, MA4 -- Whites to Longs, no Island (Par 61)

Sunday:
All Professional Men and Women, MA1, MA40, MA50 -- Whites to Long with Island (Par 62)
MA2, MA3, FA1, FA2, MA4 -- Reds to Longs, no Island (Par 58)

These are subject to change based on conditions, as I posted yesterday. If the Island is unplayable, the Platform should still be in play.

We will have some CTPs each day.

Payouts will be posted at the course on Sunday for each division.

Full Player's Meeting details will be posted tomorrow. But here's a few tidbits of info before all of that is posted:

We have had a very rainy and wet week, with more rain on the way. As of yesterday, the Island was partially flooded where water was well inside the wooden planks and OB lines. There was also multiple areas that had water out past the ropes on holes 2, 3, 6, and 15. Player safety and pace of play are very important, so we will be making a decision the day of the event if any adjustments need to be made to OBs and layouts. If the Island does have deep water where in bounds areas are unplayable, the Island will not be in play. A decision will be made by 8:30 so that all groups are consistent in what is played. Any changes will be communicated to players as they check-in and tee off. Also, please keep in mind that if there is lightning, a delay may occur. If that is the case, PDGA rules will be followed, where the players will mark their lie and move to safety for a minimum of 30 minutes after the last lightning strike was nearby. Once play is resumed, players would move back to their lie on the hole they were playing and continue play. In the instance this is extreme and causes huge delays, adjustments may be made Sunday with a later starting time and the completion of any unfinished rounds on Sunday before tee times for that round begin. Hopefully none of this will be an issue, but we need to communicate these possibilities to the players so they are aware.

We also did not include an Ace Fund during registration, as we were unsure how to handle it with tee times and the formats used. So we have decided to have an Ace Fund with the following rules:

Ace Fund Buy-In -- $5 (must be paid in cash or through Paypal before tee off on Saturday

If no Ace is hit during the event, the Ace Fund will become a CTP that will be active Sunday only, as that is the shorter of the two rounds. The CTPs will also be by layout, with the divisions playing the Red Tee having a designated CTP hole, and the same for the divisions playing the Blue Tees. If the CTP is paid out due to no Ace, the funds would be by "layout" with each grouping having their own cash CTP based on how many people from each division that buy in. If the entire group from each layout buys in, that means there will be a $370 CTP for the Blue Tee Layout and a $350 CTP for the Red Tee Layout. Big money, so it's worth the shot. If an Ace is hit, the entire pot is up for grabs, and it will not be split by layouts. So the Ace Fund is for the entire field, the Ace Fund CTPs are for each "layout."

The CTPs for each layout for this Ace Fund will be:

Blue Tees -- Hole 17
Red Tees -- Hole 14

The fund will be paid out by Paypal, as players may not be present when the event is over to determine who was closest. If an Ace is hit by a player who has bought in on either day, these CTPs become null. If an Ace is hit Saturday, there will be no need to even worry about this on Sunday. But if multiple aces are hit, they will be split between those who ace.

All OBs incur a one stroke penalty. The next shot should be taken from the point the disc travelled last out of bounds with a 1 meter buffer off of the OB line to allow the shot to be taken from in bounds. A disc needs to be entirely out of bounds to incur the penalty. If any portion of the disc is in bounds (including on or under the rope), it is considered safe and in bounds. 1 meter of relief is allowed for all shots off of the OB line, regardless of in bounds or not, per PDGA rules.

Hole 1 -- Surrounded by Water (behind basket)
Hole 2 -- Roped areas along Pine Lake moving from the Red Tee past the short pin green (see below for Island Pin Rules)
Hole 3 -- Roped areas along Pink Lake (see below for Platform Tee Rules)
Hole 4 -- Roped areas along left of fairway (separating hole 4 and 9), the right of the fairway along the creek, and around the "Island" green. From the tee shot only, if a disc crosses the red rope (green side of the "Island") and goes OB, the next shot will be taken from the Drop Zone, which is flagged and located at the edge of the bridge closest to the "Island." Hole 2 Island Pin Rules:
When playing the Island Pin on hole 2, the disc must come to rest on the Island within the wooden planks at the front and right of the Island and the ropes along the other areas surrounding the green. For a shot that does not come to rest on the Island, a rethrow will be taken until the disc lands safely in bounds, with one penalty stroke for each shot that does not land safely. A spotter will be located on the Island during both rounds with flags to indicate if a shot has landed safely to help with the pace of play. Only the Professional and Men's Advanced divisions will be playing the Island.

Hole 3 Platform Tee Rules:
If a drive does not land safely in bounds from the Platform Tee, the player has the option of a re-tee from the Platform or moving to the #3 Blue Tee, with a one stroke penalty regardless of where the next shot is taken from. All landing zone areas from the Platform have roped areas along Pine Lake to designate the in bounds areas. Only the Professional and Men's Advanced divisions will be playing the Platform Tee

The PDGA Live scoring App should have all of these OBs included, except for the Special Rules on Holes 2 and 3. These OBs and special rules will be posted as a "Sticky" here for reference in addition to OB sheets that include all OBs and will be provided to each card/player.

Here's the tentative tee times for Saturday, with a 8:40 start for the first group scheduled to tee off. Groups will start 8 minutes apart, and there will be some groups of 3 to allow divisions to play with like players as much as possible. The plan for Saturday will also be used for the ordering of the Sunday rounds. This will allow all divisions to finish in close proximity to the other players in their respective divisions so that payouts can happen as all players in that division have completed their rounds.

This may change as the event draws near. As players drop, so will the division counts. So this is more a plan for now and will be updated closer to the event. I just wanted players to have an idea when to expect their rounds on Saturday may begin. So with this plan, if there are no changes to the ordering, you can expect to start your round within 32 minutes (either earlier or later) of the time posted here.

This will be posted on the PDGA event page at 8 PM the night before the event, and at that point, it will be finalized.

All right, here goes....

Even with the growth of the sport due to COVID and the historical draw of this tournament, there's no way we could have anticipated yesterday's registration. With that being said, registration is something we cannot control, as it is hosted by this site and also uses PayPal for payment processing. So filling in the time we did with all the additional interest causes people who register immediately upon the open of registration getting deep on the wait list. That is beyond our control and unfortunately the way it goes. I heard a couple good comparisons about all this...think of it like a concert. Back in the good old days, concerts sold out often. There was nothing you could do about if you didn't get your spot, even if you are online right at ticket release. That's just how it goes. This event has been a field of 72 with three rounds over two days for 7 of the 8 years we've done it. Capping divisions on a field of 72 does not make sense, as with the number of divisions, that makes smaller fields and less incentive and prizes for players of all skill levels. Simply put, we cannot accommodate everyone. We couldn't in the past, and we can't now, especially with this growth and demand.

Even with all of this, we have decided that we will be moving to a different format as in the past to get more people into this event. Discussions were had between Mel and I, and we feel the best way to handle this is below:

This event will move to a 2-day and 2-round event with a max field of 144 players. Tee times will be used for both days. Some details and logistics need to be finalized for this, but here's our thoughts:

Day 1 (Saturday) -- Tee times beginning at 8 AM running 12 minutes apart. This will put the last group out starting sometime after 3 PM. This day will feature the longer of the two rounds, and we will be announcing layouts once we finalize our plan for that.

Day 2 (Sunday) -- Tee times beginning at 8 AM running 10 minutes apart. This will put the last group starting some around 2 PM. This day will feature a shorter round, and will also be announced when the plan is finalized.

Like division players will be grouped together for starting times in close proximity of each other so that on Sunday, once a division is completed, their awards ceremony can occur, including payouts. That way our awards and payouts will not need to wait until all players are finished. This should keep things moving and also limit the group congregation size down.

We know that each of the options to increase field size all have positives and negatives. But being a club with limited resources and volunteers, this is the best option for us and we feel the entire event as a whole. There is no way we can keep everyone happy, but we believe this is the best way to get to the most players in to the event and also minimize the strain on our group as we adjust to this larger field size. This event has always been a two-day event, so by running it with tee times, we essentially lose one round of competition but also get to double the field size.

So what this essentially mean is that with a max field of 144, anybody on the waitlist with a spot at 72 or less will move into the event. I will be working on updating this tonight, but have also noticed a couple duplications of waitlist numbers and players, so I will need to go through the registration history to make sure it is completely correct and fair. Please give me to later tonight to do this, as it's not an easy task.

We also realize this change may not appease all who make it in. If you decide with these changes and would like a refund, we can do that, no questions asked. But this will also make for much larger field sizes and better competition and prize pools, so keep that in mind. There has already been a few refund requests and I have yet to process those. I wanted to make a decision on a path forward before doing so to make sure these players did not lose their spot in case they still wanted to play with an expanded field. I will be emailing those three individuals shortly. So if you are one of the three, please respond to the email your intentions of playing with these changes.

Moving forward, we will have to take a serious look at how this tournament is managed with regards to this growth. I personally wouldn't mind seeing it be a three day event if we expand to a field this size as the norm, but it just doesn't make sense to do that this year with that not being the original plan. Our club will take a look at the options we have to grow this event and allow the max number of players to get in for next year and beyond.

Also, as stated above, details for format and possibly tee times are not set in stone as of yet. We will get those details updated once our plan is finalized. But the fact it will be a 2-Day and 2-Round event with tee times will not be changed.

And just so you know, the last 4 years, we have averaged 14 people moving in off the wait list before the event, so don't fret if that's where you land. Just be patient and let the chips fall as they decide. All players who don't get in off the list will receive full refunds.

Please note that this is a current update and will need to be updated based on any drops or division changes between now and Saturday morning. But this should give you a general idea of where you will start based on you division. Tee times for all players will be updated around noon tomorrow, and I will post the link to the PDGA event page that will have these details. You will still need to check Saturday morning to ensure no changes have been made. It is the player's responsibility to ensure they are there for their tee time. If that time is missed, accommodations will not be able to made. We are on a tight schedule with this and it is paramount that players know their tee times and are there ready to go a minimum of 15 minutes before to check in. We are also going to do a 15 minute grace period between the two pools so that the last group playing the longer tees gets a little extra jump on the players playing the shorter tees.

All OBs incur a one stroke penalty. The next shot should be taken from the point the disc travelled last out of bounds with a 1 meter buffer off of the OB line to allow the shot to be taken from in bounds. A disc needs to be entirely out of bounds to incur the penalty. The rope is the OB line, and per PDGA rules, a portion of the disc must be in bounds to be considered safe and in bounds.
This means that the in bounds plane is defined by the area OUTSIDE OF THE ROPE away from the water. A disc can be touching the rope and be considered in bounds as long as any portion of the disc is touching the area on the outside of the rope that is considered in bounds. 1 meter of relief is allowed for all shots off of the OB line, regardless of in bounds or not, per PDGA rules.

Hole 1 -- Surrounded by Water (behind basket)
Hole 2 -- Roped areas along Pine Lake moving from the White Tee and past the short pin green (see below for Island Pin Rules)
Hole 3 -- Roped areas along Pink Lake (see below for Platform Tee Rules)
Hole 4 -- Roped areas along left of fairway (separating hole 4 and 9), the right of the fairway along the creek, and around the "Island" green. From the tee shot only, if a disc crosses the red rope (green side of the "Island") and goes OB, the next shot will be taken from the Drop Zone, which is flagged and located at the edge of the bridge closest to the "Island." For any other shot that is not a tee shot, OB is played as normal with the next shot taken from the point the disc travelled OB.

Hole 2 Island Pin Rules:
When playing the Island Pin on hole 2, the disc must come to rest on the Island within the wooden planks at the front and right of the Island and the ropes along the other areas surrounding the green. For a shot that does not come to rest on the Island, a rethrow will be taken (from the point the disc travelled out out of bounds near the rope) until the disc lands safely in bounds, with one penalty stroke for each shot that does not land safely. A spotter will be located on the Island during both rounds with flags to indicate if a shot has landed safely to help with the pace of play. Only the Professional and Men's Advanced divisions will be playing the Island.

Hole 3 Platform Tee Rules:
If a drive does not land safely in bounds from the Platform Tee, the player has the option of a re-tee from the Platform or moving to the #3 Blue Tee, with a one stroke penalty regardless of where the next shot is taken from. All landing zone areas from the Platform have roped areas along Pine Lake to designate the in bounds areas. Only the Professional and Men's Advanced divisions will be playing the Platform Tee

The PDGA Live scoring App should have all of these OBs included, except for the Special Rules on Holes 2 and 3. These OBs and special rules will be posted as a "Sticky" here for reference in addition to OB sheets that include all OBs and will be provided to each card/player.

So please be sure to check in the morning by 8 AM to ensure that you have your correct tee time. In the previous post, that can be used as a general idea as to what time each division will be teeing off. Some slight adjustments will be posted on Thursday before being finalized Friday, with this being based on the current registration division counts. But the order and tentative timeline should not change much from what I originally posted.

On each day, please be at the course and checked in 15 minutes before your scheduled tee time. Each player must check in with the TD before the rounds begin.

There will be an official Player's Meeting post made Friday with all of these details and other pertinent information. That will include PDGA live scoring details and any other important rules or happenings that need to be communicated.
