Further clarrification of Pool A&B Sunday's round

Yesterday during the 5-minute prior to each group teeing off, I went over various scenarios of playing a 13 or 9 hole configuration. I stated that if we played a 9 hole configuration we would tighten the tee times from 12 minutes to 10 minutes. Yesterday after the last card had already begun play, a suggestion was made to move from tee times which would have been from 8am to 2:36 pm to two shotgun starts one at 8:15 and one at 12 noon. This would provide the greatest opportunity to get all 18 holes in for all groups. Tee times were never posted for Saturday. Communication via email and posting on dgscene explained the format change in an attempt to get the most golf completed prior to the storms hitting Sunday afternoon.

This morning, Sunday, two hours before the scheduled 8:15 start, while reviewing the weather provided by NOAA, it became clear that storms would likely hit us around 1:30 or 2. It took me about 30 minutes to actually pull the trigger, but about 6:45 I finally made the decision to make a cut in all pools, shorten the layouts to 13 holes and move up the second shotgun event to 11am in an attempt to get it finished as soon as possible.

The first cuts were made for divisions where the lead was very significant. (MP40 and MA4). The second cuts were made for divisions of 1 competitor (FA1, FA2 and FA3). The third cuts were made for players at the bottom of the divisions where I didn't think they would be in contention for the win or even cashing. Of all of these, the only division that the logic above didn't pertain to was FA50. I made a presumption that they would rather not play in the rain so I cut them as well. I really try to keep women together and they would have to play with MA3 if I kept them in.

Prior to 7:50 am there were a couple of errors regarding hole assignments for the 8:15 start. Those were rectified by 7:50 am providing enough time to get to the correct hole.

The 11 am start with hole assignments was completed by 8:45 am. Pool A & B - pay attention to what the PDGA app says regarding which tee and which hole to play. If there is a discrepancy anywhere, the PDGA app is the official layout.

Please be mindful that while you may believe a decision was made incorrectly, I need to be concerned with 134 people. I've had MPO players tell me I should cut all of Pool C and I've literally had the LAST person in TWO different divisions in Pool C complain that they were not allowed to play. With over 120 PDGA tournaments under my belt since 2014, this is the most drastic scenario I've had to deal with and the only second scenario where we were not able to fully finish the last round of play. DIVISIONS / DATES:

Everyone is playing one round per day on tee times Saturday, June 6 and Sunday June 7. Round one tee times have been posted at the link below.

Round two tee times will be posted at the same link within two hours after round one has completed.

You are required to be at Hole 1 starting area 5 minutes before your tee time and remain present. A two stroke penalty may be assessed if you are late.

LATE WITHDRAWAL / NO-SHOW

At this point, it is too late to receive a refund. However, if you notify me at 785-764-2229 more than 5 minutes before your tee time, you will still receive your player pack for an Am.

To cancel, text or call your name and division, with comment you are canceling to 785-764-2229.

PARKING -

There are two different parking lots you can use. I’m not sure how full the lots will be as we cannot reserve the lots. I would recommend that you car pool if you can and that you get to the course in plenty of time in order to park.

RESTROOMS

Their are restrooms 800’ from hole 1 on the other side of the large shelter. New this year, there is also a portable restroom near Hole 6 and 14.

PRACTICE AREA

The practice basket near hole 1 will be bagged and out of service. There is a junior 9-hole course adjacent to the course we are playing. The holes are varied but are generally less than 200’. They do have full size baskets.

CHECK-IN

Player Pack pickup is at the shop Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Maverick Disc Golf, 623 N Central St. Ste C, Olathe, KS 66061. We would prefer you to pick it up at the shop. For those that haven’t picked it up by end of business Saturday you will be able to pick it up Sunday at the course.

Day of Check-in will be at the picnic tables near Hole 1. There is a possibility that on Sunday we will be set up in the shelter for check in.

SCORING

Every player is required to keep score for every person on their card. We will be using the PDGA digital scoring system. (This is not Udisc). To access it, go to pdga.com/score. Enter in the password, then your last name or PDGA number, and the card will pull up. I will have paper scorecards as a backup. You can also use udisc as a backup. However, to submit the scores, it needs to be done through the PDGA scoring system.

CADDY BOOK

Hole lengths, pars, and OB rules are listed in the PDGA app while you are keeping score. They should match the tee signs at each tee. If they do not match, the PDGA app is the official document.

COURSE CONDITIONS

Black Hoof is mostly cart friendly with the exception of the steps from Hole 1 to Hole 2. The fairways have been mowed well, but off of the fairway can be tall grass or thick undergrowth. Tick repellent is highly recommended. Be aware that these are woods and watch your step when off the fairway.

WATER

You need to bring enough water for yourself for the whole round. While there will be water coolers on the course, these are intended to be backups. At this time I’m planning on having them at Hole 6, Hole 12 White Tee (blues and tips walk past this tee on 12), and Hole 15.image.jpeg

BONUS PRIZES

ROUND ONE PRIZE: If you have the Hot Round of your whole division (not your card, but the whole division) you will get a Hot Round mini. They are not much, only a mini, but the only way you can get one is by having the Hot Round, so it’s kind of cool.

ROUND TWO PRIZE: If you win your card, you win a prize from the white prize box that is called the Toy Box. Typical items are sticker sheets, can coolers, license plate frames, etc.

IF YOU NEED TO WITHDRAW

If you decide for any reason that you don’t or can’t play the second round, please tell the TD onsite or text at 785-764-2229. This is crucial as it will affect others on how the second round is organized. If you do not notify us that you are withdrawing, it will be reported to the PDGA as an ‘888’.

AWARDS / PAYOUTS

To decrease the amount of congregation we will not have a formal awards ceremony. Trophies will be given out as soon as the clear winner is determined after the second round. PRO PAYOUTS can be either a check picked up at the course after round two is finished, a check picked up at the shop, a check mailed to you, or PayPal Goods and Services (winner pays fees) based on what you chose during registration. AM PAYOUTS are redeemable at Maverick Disc Golf in Olathe, KS. If you proactively request one, you can also redeem it at our webstore maverickdiscgolf.com. If you choose the webstore, it will charge you shipping. There is no additional payout for MA3 / FA3.

Good afternoon,

This morning alone we have received 4 inquiries regarding what's going to happen if we get bad weather this weekend. Apologies in advance for this long form explanation.

It is still very early to say for sure what will happen this weekend. The event is five days away. Weather forecasts, particularly in our area, can change noticeably in five days. They can change within 12 hours.

This is a PDGA B-tier tournament. By registering in this tournament you must be a PDGA member, therefore, are required to be familiar with the PDGA rules and competition manual. We follow the PDGA inclement weather policies. Please review these PDGA rules here:

If Saturday's round is delayed due to the policy above, we will continue Saturday's round on Sunday. If Sunday's round needs to be shorten or cancelled it will be communicated via email and in the comments on discgolfscene. There is a possibility that the layouts will be modified or shortened in order to make the rounds go quicker. Adjusting the tee times will be difficult so the likelihood of that will be low; however it could happen. If it does, it will be in accordance with the links above.

As common practice with PDGA tournaments, the refund policy does not provide a provision for a refund due to poor weather, shortened rounds or cancelled rounds. The Refund Policy as stated during registration reads:

Refund policy
Maverick Disc Golf is responsible for all refunds/cancellations. DGScene and PayPal fees are non-refundable. Refunds PRIOR to Sunday, May 24th will (receive, sic) a full refund. Refund requests from Sunday May 24 to Saturday May 30 11:59 PM will receive a refund of their entry fee minus a $10 handling fee only if their spot in the tournament is filled by a player who is on the waitlist at the time of the withdrawal request. If their spot is not filled from the then current waitllist, the refund will be 75% of the paid registration fees. Refund requests from Sunday May 31st to registration closing will receive a refund of their entry fee minus a $10 handling fee only if their spot is filled by a player who is on the waitlist at the time of the withdrawal request. If their spot is not filled, Pro divisions will receive a 50% refund and Amateur divisions will receive the player pack. No refunds will be issued after registration closes for any reason. No call, no show at event will forfeit player pack and refund. This refund policy is significantly more lenient than outlined by the PDGA Competion Manual. Waitlist policy: If you are on the wait list and don't get in, you'll get a full refund less the PayPal and dgscene fees. When an opening becomes available, it is filled from the waitlist first. If you are on the waitlist, you can request a refund at any time and get a full refund less the PP and DGScene fees. Once you are on the normal registration list, the above paragraph applies as long as it is before registration ends. When registration closes, and you are still on the waitlist, you will be removed and refunded, less the PP and DGS fees.
