I am bummed the efforts were met with such backlash. Conocido needs to be safer - I don't feel comfortable playing there with my toddler, there is too much crossover. There is a single point on the course where holes 1, 2, 10, 17, and 18 all play around/through each other. During peak-times this course is near unplayable, especially when you get the large groups of 4-8 who are all playing to the same baskets.
I hope we can figure out a full layout in the future. I do like some aspects of Cono now, but I LOVED the redesign. We need more mid-distance courses in the Phoenix area. We already have Buffalo Ridge, Vista, Fountain Hills, Cavecreek Sweetwater as long layouts, we need more courses where putters and mids come into play, and that is what the redesign did. The low ceilings and ground play made for a fun challenge, and I got to throw shots and discs that I don't normally get to throw in Phoenix.
Aside from that, boycotting the best local disc golf store over a course redesign is complete idiocy. It's clear they want to have a positive effect on the local disc golf scene. They are just down the road from Cono and hear the safety complaints all the time. Even if you disagree with the course changing, threatening someone's livelihood over trying to make improvements is disgraceful behavior. Phoenix needs and deserves better courses. Just because you like the course as-is doesn't mean it can't be better.
