5 player cards would allow 18 more kids to get in and would not make too much of a differenvelope since we are all young kids who can move faster and usually throw faster than players in the masters divisions.

We don't do last minute replacements because all the various paperwork for check-in, player packs, ancillary event reg lists, evening activities event lists/counts, etc. have already been generated once we close registration, refund the waitlist, post pools, and create all those lists. We also always have folks that have not checked in because of flight delays, car break downs, etc. and we won't actually know they are a no-show until the first round is over and they never scored. Sorry, but Worlds is infinitely more complex than a regular one course C-Tier.

Mr. Sweeton, your last sentence was condescending. This isn't our family's first Junior Worlds, and we've played plenty of A, B, and C-Tier events. We know how it works. You conflated a lot of unnecessary things into your answer that don't have anything to do with registration for the tournament itself. Evening activities and ancillary events don't have to inform the actual event registration, and you could easily have announced a firm check-in process that, if missed, you're out. Instead you'd let the event start, penalizing kids who are #1 on the waitlist but who now get to watch from the sidelines as a division of 65 kids compete because kids 66-72 didn't show. I'm still scratching my head over why you packaged ancillary activities with actual tournament registration. That was a mistake that could have been avoided if thought out, but you decided to package them together for your own ease of managing the entire week. Kids would rather play in the tournament than go to the pool, a baseball game, or have a special dinner. You could have and should have kept event registration independent of the other ancillary activities, but you chose not to, and that's really unfortunate and an indication of mismanagement. How many unbiased parents of competitors were consulted during the planning process of this event? I told Bob Julio that I was willing to volunteer my experience with past Junior Worlds events to add a layer of valuable feedback before final decisions were made. He reached out to Nate Heinold but I never heard back, and this is the exact kind of thing I was going to help with. Combining 2 majors into one event was a mistake, as it completely eliminates the ability of the TD and volunteer staff (whose efforts are appreciated) to be agile and accommodating to these kids and their families. Read through the comments section. Sight of why this event is important has clearly been lost.

You should feel sorry for the kids who are at the top of the waitlists who don't get to play now because someone already paid for a dinner or baseball game that they won't even attend. Please just fix it for next time.

You could still do this. You could just let waitlisted kids in if already registered players aren't there an hour before tee off, and tell them that they're out of luck when it comes to ancillary activities or extra things. These kids would rather compete then play around in the city of Peoria. A lot of them don't participate in the extra events anyway. They're there to compete.

There is no failure in getting the registration right, it is as intended and as the posted registration schedule has stated since before registration opened. The real issue here with kids being on the waitlist is that COVID happened, the 2020 worlds were thereby cancelled and pushed into 2021, and that pushed the 2021 events into 2022. Meanwhile, unprecedented growth in the sport occurred in late 2021 and 2022 (one of the few positive things to come out of something that killed millions) and there is quite simply far more interest in playing worlds now, than the space on the courses could provide for. I'm sure that next year the PDGA planning team will work with the host to provide more space to be available due to the growth and increase in interest. That said, there will always be limitations of some kind based on the bids received and the courses available.

Andrew, I'm not talking about the registration schedule and you know it. I'm talking about the way you're handling the waitlist and potential no shows. It's only the 8th and you're talking about booting kids from the waitlist and refunding their money today. There are still people that are going to cancel or withdrawal. If you nuke the waitlist who's going to take their spot? From what I understand the answer is no one. Divisions will not be maxed out. That means slots that could have been filled by waitlisted kids will remain unfilled because there will be no waitlist. Now do you see the issue?

I'm sorry you don't like it, and I'm sorry your son is on the waitlist, but this is the posted process and we aren't changing it at this late juncture for both the reasons previously stated, and the fact that it would be extremely unfair to all of the players who already withdrew both from within the event and from the waitlist because their sibling was sitting on the waitlist with no chance to get in. As I said before, I'm happy to pass along your concerns and ideas to the Majors Committee and will also pass to the Operations & Logistics team who plan the space requirements for Worlds with the host team.
